I don’t think I can fairly review The Ettes, because I officially have a huge crush on this band, but please enjoy the love letter that follows…

The Ettes, when you first sauntered up onto the stage, I knew I wanted to make out with you, but I thought that was it.  As you started to play “Reputation,” I thought that I could keep my cool, but as the set went on, I stopped being so sure.  You’ve got this bad ass, I-don’t-give-a-shit-what-you-think thing going on.  It drives me crazy, I can’t stop thinking about you, I want more.

Front-woman Coco wiggles her hips behind her guitar, making eyes and encouraging the audience to make out while my heart races a little bit.  Pony is mesmerizing when she drums, using her whole body to drive irresistible garage rock with a Nashville twist.  After the first song, I couldn’t take notes.  I’d been resisting it all night, and it was time to just dance.  I know I wasn’t the only one under their spell, The Echo had filled up and the whole front of the room was loving The Ettes.  Shirts were coming off, arms were flailing, booties were shaking, and feet were stomping.

After an excellent set including “Red in Tooth and Claw,” “Lo and Behold,” and “Blood Red Blood,” they delighted us in “Marathon” before introducing us to “the best harmonica player this side of whatever river you care about!” They closed up their set with “Crown of Age” and “Walk Out That Door,” leaving me panting and and ready to buy their latest album, “Do You Want Power.”

*The Ettes also played with the Heavy Young Heathens and The Blood Arm. Check out their review and photos too!
