This past Friday (Jan. 18, 2013), Femi Kuti and the Positive Force performed at the El Rey Theatre. It was quite possibly one of the most beautiful shows I have ever attended. The show itself felt like more of cultural experience than anything. So many different musical influences fused together to create the band’s sound. The crowd was just as diverse as the music. It was not just a case of different ethnicities, but the ages of the crowd was a mixture as well. It was amusing to see a very dapper, elderly gentleman dance the night away with multiple attractive young women. Kuti’s music is a perfect example of how the love of music can bring people together in peace and harmony.
