Xiu Xiu are back and have a seductively dangerous single to share with you. “Stupid in the Dark” is an unsettling new track that will send pleasurable shivers down your spine in true Xiu Xiu fashion. It’s dark, it’s mysterious and it’s full of danger. The song is the first single from Xiu Xiu’s forthcoming studio album, Angel Guts: Red Classroom, out February 4th via Polyvinyl.

The album, along with this new single are inspired by songwriter, Jamie Stewart’s move from North Carolina to Los Angeles where he took residence in a dangerous neighborhood with a park divided among four gangs, a lake routinely dragged for bodies, a building wherein two infant skeletons were recently uncovered — sounds a lot like Echo Park to me (although Echo Park has cleaned up a lot. I mean c’mon, hipsters love it there.) Angel Guts: Red Classroom, with its namesake a Japanese erotic noir film, bleeds with dramatic misery, beauty, the ultra humanity and uncertainty. You can get a taste of what to expect of the new album by streaming Xiu Xiu’s new single, “Stupid in the Dark” below.
