Last night was a fairly disappointing night of music at the Fonda Theatre with English psych band Temples. The show was far from sold out, leaving plenty of room to move about. I loved Temples’ debut album, Sun Structures, and I had really high expectations for the four-piece band, unfortunately their performance fell flat and it lacked the spirit of the album. Another disappointing aspect of the show was the lack of visuals that the band usually tours with. In fact, their show in San Francisco on Wednesday was complete with proper lighting and projected visuals, while Thursday’s show was bare bones, minimal lighting. My guess is that with the underwhelming ticket sales, they just thought it wasn’t worth it.
Fever the Ghost and Wampire opened up the show and both of their performances lacked any kind of energy, most likely due to the lack of attendance. We’ve seen both bands perform before and they usually deliver a lively show. Unfortunately, this night at the Fonda felt like a show that none of the bands wanted to play. Regardless of the turnout, bands should always give their all for the fans that were so excited and actually paid to come see them perform live.
