The Jesus and Mary Chain Fonda theatre

Warming up for their FYF performance this coming weekend, legendary and influential alternative band, The Jesus and Mary Chain, played the first of two sold out shows at The Fonda last night. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of their debut album, Psychocandy, The Jesus and Mary Chain performed the album in it’s entirety. Honestly, that would’ve been just fine for me but as a bonus treat, the band played seven additional songs before they even got to “Just Like Honey”! Singer, Jim Reid sounded just as good as he did back in the day and he maintained his voice over the whopping 21-song set.

It was quite the juxtaposition of openers with singer/songwriter Willow Robinson and NYC noise rock band, A Place to Bury Strangers. Robinson started the night with his mellow yet powerful acoustic set which was a pleasant warm up but as soon as NYC noise rock band, A Place to Bury Strangers, took to the stage, it was pure mayhem. With strobing lights and APTBS frontman, Oliver Ackermann, all over the stage, it felt like the Fonda got slammed in the head with a brick.
