CALENTURA, FARAH SOSA

It’s not even summer yet and the shows coming to Los Angeles keep getting hotter. Calentura, a global booty bass party crew from Los Angeles representing the new generation of dance music from the legendary Fania Records, hosted a most memorable night at The Roxy. Leaving behind all judgements and inhibitions, the crowd gyrated and shook their bodies like nobody was watching. With a crowd eager to get down to the raw new sounds of Tropical Bass and the strength of Kuduro,  the dance music genre that was taking the ghettos of Luanda by storm and spreading to African clubs in Lisbon — Calentura DJs got the party started and turned the evening into a night of nonstop dancing.

Celebrating 10 years of history and the final leg of their tour, Lisbon headliners Buraka Som Sistema jolted The Roxy, and what resulted was heavy booty bouncing that could be seen throughout the night. The intensity of their beats and unique sounds has made their bangers popular. Fans in Los Angeles were fortunate enough to experience the Buraka vibes before the band goes on indefinite hiatus.

Opening for Buraka was Sivani Ahlowalia best known as Alo Wala, a Chicago-born rapper accompanied by Calentura’s DJ Ethos. Dancehall, hip hop, cumbia and electronic sounds warmed up the stage for what was to be one of the hottest shows I have witnessed this year! Her music was a robust appetizer for the tantalizing main dish that was Buraka.

If you love to dance, and I mean really dance, you need to attend a Calentura event.
