Orishas

The Regent Theater in Downtown Los Angeles has had a series of top notch shows all summer long. The wave continued this past weekend with a roster of hot numbers lined up for Cuban hip hop pioneers Orishas, reunited after seven years.

The venue was packed from the jump with an audience eager to get down to the sounds of the night.  L.A.’s Subsuelo crew was present with multiple dj sets by Canyon Cody, Azul and DJ Ethos through out the evening with nonstop dancing vibes festival worthy. Los Rakas, joined by turntablist DJ Ethos brought a heatwave of booty shaking tracks, one after the other and although there was a thick anxiety to see Orishas together after so many years, the crowd kept a legit party atmosphere for every performer.

Like a tropical storm, Orishas took over the stage opening with classic song “A Lo Cubano” melting the crowd with heat and excitement. Filled with energy and charisma, rappers Yotuel, Roldán and Ruzz accompanied by a band showed that they still got it going on strong.  Not surprisingly, Usher was seen in the crowd along with many local music producers. “Cuba Isla Bella” Orishas’ most recent production got everyone moving. We hope to hear more new music from Orishas after this fantastic come back.
