Daughter
The Wiltern hosted a warm evening of dream pop/folk on Wednesday. It’s never a dull show when European trio Daughter are in the building. The attendees anxiously stood waiting for our hump day treat, with a lovely opening by rising star Alexandra Savior. Originally from Portland, but now repping Los Angeles, the dreamy vocalist casted a spell upon the incoming crowd. I was instantly enchanted by Savior’s glossy voice. The delivery was awe-striking in this dainty 22-year old. Casually introducing herself to us as Alexandra Savior and “les dudes,” she proved that an opening act does not (and should not) be skipped out on.
Fun fact: “les dudes” backing her up are none other than members of one of our L.A. faves, Papa.
Without further ado, Daughter took the moody-lit Wiltern stage. What can even be said about this incredible type of musicianship? I’m always hypnotized by the echoing vocal stylings of Elena Tonra. The elegant approach she takes to her expansive and raw lyricism is almost perfect. Of course with drummer, Remi Aguilella and guitarist Igor Haefeli, the trio comes together rather effortlessly. The night spiraled into another realm with some of our favorites from the group’s 2013 debut If You Leave as well as instant classics from their latest work Not To Disappear that released at the start of this year.
It goes without stating that it was a very special and beloved evening shared among fans and musicians. Alexandra Savior set the tone for a spellbinding evening, while Daughter laid the icing on the cake with their extraordinary show. Check out the photos below of these two blissful performances.
