Cults Announce Los Angeles Date at Teragram Ballroom
Buzzing with the momentous cascades of synthesizers, New York duo Cults have emerged with the title track of their upcoming third studio album Offering, and the follow-up to 2013’s Static. For a band that honed the controlled use of minimalist melodies on its first two albums, which often just consisted of a few choice instrumentals and guitar lines by Brian Oblivion and the high-pitched crooning of Madeline Follin, the new track is an eye-catching move away from what’s become the classic Cults sound.
Holding onto their commitment to do a lot with very little, “Offering” showers you with its surging synths as Follin dazzles in her soft fashion with that elusively heartbreaking and yet so effortlessly beautiful voice. Her repeated plea just kind of floats there, hands outstretched, this hope in the darkness, bobbing away in this effervescent pool of shimmering electronica–desperate but resolute in its convictions. If the title track is anything to go by, Offering will thrill fans with its refreshing use of vintage synths by a band that’s never really made it a point to touch them in their music.

Cults will be embarking on a huge US tour this fall, making stops at the Constellation Room at the Santa Ana Observatory on November 6 and at the Teragram Ballroom on November 7. Tickets go on sale July 14 and fans who purchase a ticket will also receive a digital album redemption for Offering, except where noted.
