The one thing my uncle asked of me after being gone for 7 years was to get him a pair of ‘classic vans’…I screwed up Grimy Goods. He opened the box and disappointment overtook his face. I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to redeem myself. Even though i need a pair, PLEASE let me create a new classic for my uncle, and simultaneously restore my honor in being his nephew lol

  2. Emily F.

I definitely need a rad new pair of Vans. I’ve worn out the bottoms of my Vans slip-ons so bad that when I walk it looks like they’re talking. The sole separates from the shoe.

  3. Frankie Tirado

This would be the sickest! I immediately thought about how I’d design my customs, and they look so brilliant, it would be a shame to NOT choose me as the winner… just sayin’. Cheers!!

  4. Carmen Solorzano

I would love to win this pair of shoes because being the devoted single mom that i am i always spend every penny i have on my little one. These would come in handy for my little feet :)

  5. steven guerrero

my shoes are getting really worn out, with holes everywhere. I need a new pair since i don’t have the money right now to get some

  6. missaye

I’d love to win a pair of VANS because they have been my brand since I was a kid and to be able to have my own customized pair would be the bees knees!

Please make my holiday wish come true, please. kthx!

  7. Carolsue

I followed on Facebook – Carolsue Andeson and on Twitter as @Sillysiamese
I would like to get the shoes for my son: SUPRA KIDS VAIDER IN BLACK/WHITE – PAINT DRIP (size 11 UK). I would like to win these because we can’t really afford super neat shoes like this so he would be thrilled to have something better than his plain old tennis shoes he usually gets stuck with.

  8. Will Franco

I would love to win these free vans because It would be the perfect gift for someone I know. I would customize them myself knowing what she would like on them :] it would be a perfect way for me to start off the new year, giving away something I won! Thanks! Hope I win (and not for my own sake) haha!

  9. Endless Meghan

Since I was a wee lass watching the cool kids on their skateboards while on my trike I’ve wanted a pair of checkered Vans. I’ve come into many shoes, but those have always eluded me.

  10. Emily

I didn’t purchase an xmas gift for the guy that I’ve been dating for 12 years. But to be fair, I’m pretty sure that he hasn’t bought me anything either. We’re horrible about buying gifts for each other in general – birthdays, xmas… and most certainly not that sad excuse for commercialism – valentine’s day. Its not like we don’t do stuff for each other or buy each other things. I promise though that if I win, I wouldn’t keep the shoes for myself – they would go to that guy, because I guess it might be nice to experience receiving a gift on or about a socially appropriate day of the year once in a while. Also, maybe even more awesome than the gift would be not having that awkward exchange with people where they’re like: “So what did your (bf/gf/person) (get/get from) you for (xmas/b-day/v-day)?” and where you’re like “Nothing” and the other person pretends to understand but really they’re secretly judging you.

  11. Salvador

    Hi!
i would really like wear the black supra shoes because they are very comfortable to skate and i can make more easily tricks.

    Thanks!

  12. Salvador

Hi! This is the five songs that will be on my first RDIO playlist

    1. The smiths – There’s a light that never goes out
    2. The coral – Bill Mccai
    3. Creedence clearwater revival – fortunate son
    4. The cure – love song
    5. The datsuns – mf from hell

  13. Beatriz Barajas

Id love to win a pair if vans customer shoes because those are my fave brand if shows. I go way back with Vans and brings back rad memories from my time in high school. I would love to be able to customize a pair to keep design to make more memories with. vans shoes rock!

  14. Michael Hillson

Vans are an iconic part of California culture and I’m embarrassed to admit I’ve never owned a pair. Customs are the best of all as I get to design them myself. The shoes I have on are disintegrating as I type this and are probably doing my feet more harm than good. Hoping to turn this all around thanks to another cool Grimy Goods contest…

  15. Michael Hillson

    Hammer Run.

The shoes I am currently wearing are being held together by will power, nothing more (well, maybe a little Shoe Goo). I am in dire need of new kicks and the Hammer Run style is a vast improvement over my boring NB’s. Happy Holidays!

  16. Claudine Garay

Who doesn’t love getting a new pair of shoes? More importantly free-new pair of shoes. The only brand of shoes I wear is Vans and would love to add another pair of shoes to my already two pair collection! :)

  17. Dayna Brisco

My boyfriend got me hooked on the Hunger Games about a month ago. If I won, I’d love to give him the black Supras!

  18. Angelica Baird

I think the white ones are pretty sick. The design is great and manages to look badass yet classic.
I would love these because I think they’d make an amazing outfit piece. These would complete any fashion statement and make any outfit pop. I just love the geometric design of them!

  19. Carolina G

Would be so rad customizing my own shoes!! What an awesome way to express your personality/creativity…hope I get to flaunt a pair of these this upcoming year.

  20. Danielle Dauenhauer

Since my skull-filled checkerboard Vans went to shoe heaven earlier this year (that’s a thing, right? I don’t want to conceive of a world where my shoes’ final resting place is a garbage heap in New Jersey), my feet have been woefully unadorned with the brand of kicks I find most conducive to my awesome concert going California lifestyle. “Why, shoe gods, WHY have you not seen it fit to put another pair of Vans (perhaps in the colors of the California sunset like Weird Al wore in that one album insert…Poodle Hat, I believe),” I have screamed in no particular direction more than once in the past few months. Perhaps this contest, THIS glorious distribution of textiles and awesomeness, is what I’ve been shouting for all along!

Or maybe it’s just a contest I’m entering on the internet. I don’t know. I’d really like some shoes, though. GRASSY ASS!

  21. Darren Duque

I really like the white pair. I’ve always been a huge fan of the Muska ever since I saw Fulfill The Dream. He’s a huge inspiration for me and he’s definitely one of the most iconic skaters ever. He always has the sickest parts and he’s always stylish as hell doing it. I’ve been wearing Muska gear forever and I’d be so down for pair of Supras!

  22. Tiff

I dig the cuttler. Just like music, you can never have enough shoes. I would love to start the new year off with some awesome new shoes.

  23. Janelle

I would love a pair of those white Supra kicks because they are so sweet! My birthday is on Tuesday and I think the best place for these would be in my closet. Love all that you do, GG! Best wishes in the coming year.

  24. Krishna castro

The five songs that would be on my first playlist would be:
    Partition-Beyoncé
    Love fool- The Cardigans
    Chinese fountain- The Growlers
You make me so very happy- Alton Ellis
After the moment – Craft Spells

  25. claudia castaneda

I love the Supras .. No color preference
if I win I’d love to give these shoes to my dear sweet niece.
She is a Huge fan of the Hunger Games. Her name is Ariella and in the 6th grade.
I know she would appreciate them so much.
This would be an Awesome surprise for her

  26. Fernando Islas

i dig the black supras, the wings look awesome. and i actually originally ‘liked’ your guys page a year or two ago, I forget exactly when but you were having a supra giveaway! so, i’m hoping this time around i’m able to get ‘em! :)

  27. Carlos Parga

Just entered the Supras contest and now another awesome contest! I looked through the photos of all the photographers and I must say that Monique Hernandez is the truth. Love how she captures an image. She gets my vote. Hope I win. Good luck to all those who enter.

  28. Carlos Parga

Katniss Everdeen is my favorite Hunger Games character. I should win these Supras because what better way to start off the new year than with a fresh new pair of kicks. Stylish, innovative, and truly fashionable. Thank you for the opportunity to win. Hope I’m one of the lucky winners selected.

  29. Anne Marie Schiefer

Definitely so new to me albums on here I am going to need to check out. Love seeing everyone’s picks from the Grimy Family!

  30. Chris

Lovely article! Minor correction, though: the balloons were tossed by the crowd during “I’ve Had it Up to Here” at the lyric “Don’t want to end up with as much edge as a balloon.”

  31. Gohi

Thanks for the enthusiastic review! However, the balloons were actually released during “I’ve Had it Up to Here” and they were definitely not standing on their amps. Great photography and perfect description of the acoustic set.

  32. Bernadette Gonzales

It would take me back to my youth! Class of’95. Oh and gish was one of the best records ever!

  33. joselhin romero

Please pick me because the very first time I saw Dillon Francis was in 2013 and it was the best set I ever heard. I was new to moombah and trap music so at first his songs sounded different but I fell in love with it! Dillon always posts funny pictures on Instagram and shows what he brings to his shows that I would love to experience. This would be such an amazing Christmas Present!
Thanks for the opportunity to enter this contest!

  34. David Brown

One of the best songs of the year is Left Hand Free by Alt-J??? Come on guys. Alt-J have so many other awesome songs. Left Hand Free is a catchy radio single trying to get Taylor Swift fans to listen to Alt-J. You can do better.

  35. Ryan

Great selections. Would have love to seen Fly Lo’s album though! You guys got him on your best songs though. So that’s cool.

Hotel California – Gipsy Kings …just a killer cover, done in a unique way.

Music on White Russian Vinyl, and Pizza. Heck yeah, I’m in. It would really tie the room together.
My fav line…”The Dude abides. I don’t know about you, but I take comfort in that. It’s good knowing he’s out there, the Dude, takin’ ‘er easy for all us sinners.” –The Stranger

  83. Zach Evans

My first instinct was to say “The Man in Me” because that song immediately brings back memories of that amazing opening title sequence in the bowling alley. But then I remembered that this soundtrack introduced the Gipsy Kings’ cover of “Hotel California” to the world, and that’s a damn fine song. So I’d have to say that’s my favorite song from this soundtrack.

When I moved out to LA many year ago I went bowling at Hollywood Star Lanes, where they filmed the bowling alley interiors (it’s gone now). It was open 24 hours a day, such a great place. Ordering a beer at the same bar where The Dude and The Stranger talked… well, it’s up on my list of greatest LA experiences.

  84. Alex

The Dude: It’s like what Lenin said… you look for the person who will benefit, and, uh, uh…
    Donny: I am the walrus.
The Dude: You know what I’m trying to say…
    Donny: I am the walrus.
    Walter Sobchak: That fucking bitch…
    The Dude: Oh yeah!
    Donny: I am the walrus.
Walter Sobchak: Shut the fuck up, Donny! V.I. Lenin. Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov!
Donny: What the fuck is he talking about, Dude?

  85. Emily Lamberson

“You want a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don’t wanna know about it, believe me.”

And my favorite track is Kenny Rogers- Just Dropped In. I used this in a little movie I made with my friends when we were 16 years old. It was a Vietnam war scene and it was pretty awesome; I love this song and the whole soundtrack so much!

  86. Ray San 3rd

    “SHUT THE FUCK UP DONNY!”
(btw, this is an impossible movie to pick a fave quote from. It is full of gems!!) can i just post the screenplay here?)

I wanna win that pizza (and that vinyl) – but come on, Bacon Cheeseburger pie?!!

“Man In Me” is my favorite track. And let’s see. How does one pick a favorite line from Lebowski?? Well honestly, ANYTIME I do something stupid or something gets messed up (even if I’m by myself), I’ll say —
    “YOU SEE WHAT HAPPENS, LARRY?!”
    So probably that.

  91. Chris

the big lebowski made me reevaluate my opinion of kenny rodgers – it’s positive now.

    also:

    “i got a rash, man”

  92. Carlos P.

My favorite line is when he says “Nobody calls me Lebowski. You got the wrong guy. I’m the Dude, man.”

  93. Edward Averill

    Favorite Line:
Police Officer: Do I make myself clear?
    Dude: I’m sorry, I wasn’t listening.
Police Officer throws mug at Dude’s face
    Dude: OW, FUCKING FASCIST!

I cant beg more than others but my wife and I would celebrate our 15th anniversary. We met Dave and his wife with his little girl about 5 years ago at cirque D soleil in Santa Monica. He came over and took a photo with me my wife and two kids. He said “this is a great Christmas card”. If this message gets back to him, he would remember. Thats the best story I have. Thanks for hearing my message.

You should pick me because I’m the kind of fan they would want. I know every word to every song, but I don’t care where they live or what they drive, or what they like. I’d be there to rock out, not to be on TV. I’d be there to feel the music, not because I want to meet the band. And if I met the band, I’d say “Thank you”, instead of “Can I have your autograph?” There for the love of the music alone. So yeah. Pick me, if you want something real.

  178. Bec Brigham

  331. Rock Photographer

Must be blind. Missed the injury. What was that again ?
“Almost trampled to death” c’mon this is clearly tongue in cheek. If not … then
again where’s the photos ? I want to see those post hardcore wrestling hit by a table bloody pictures ?

  332. Ryan

This so called ROCK PHOTOGRAPHER must be a real idiot or just plain blind. How does “photographers not capturing the action because the action was getting in the way” correlate to a photographer being injured? The show was a heap of fun. I’ve also done my searching for photos on this show and couldn’t find any but a crappy review from LA Record. Photos were okay, but nothing to brag about. Just another so called ROCK PHOTOGRAPHER ….

  333. Rock Photographer

The people with the zoom lenses are called photographers.
You being “OK” with photographers not capturing the action because the action was getting in the way means nothing to the viewers of the pictures.

  334. Sandy

Hey “Rock Photographer”, why would our photographer bring a long (zoom) lens at a venue we cover shows at every week and there’s almost always a photo pit where you’re in arm’s length from the talent? We have a name for those kind of photogs… Not to mention, she was in pain. Maybe there weren’t any “inspiring” photos after getting pummeled in the first 30 seconds of her shoot? Duh … As the post mentions “being pulled by her hair into the pit, chunks flying out and just about had her camera broken”. I own and run this site and I’m totally okay with any of my photographers bailing when their body and / or camera is in jeopardy. Thanks for your inspiring input, “Rock Photographer”.

  335. Rock Photographer

Shouldn’t a “photographer” have a long (zoom) lens. Also the sides of a concert stage are good places to get close without injury. Most people do respect at these shows.
Sadly the pictures for me are uninspiring anyways and really don’t capture anything –
LIKE THE WILD TIME THAT WAS BEING HAD ! WHERE’S THE PICS OF THIS CRAZY CROWD ?

  336. Danny Baraz

Mark. I’ve never seen such a negative reaction to such a positive review. This is becoming an Art Garfunkel type of reaction. Not sure how a paragraph about Khan takes anything away from my second paragraph about how rad you and your band are. No matter how much you cry and bitch about you guys actually being a “band”, it won’t change the fact that I covered you as such. I wish we could go back in time and prevent our photographer from being hurt so as to protect your delicate sensibilities and deliver a more complete review but rather than ask how bad her injuries are, you continue to hammer home that you seem to be experiencing a reaction to Khan’s individual popularity.

I offered a sincere interest to interview you individually or with Khan, not to placate you but to show you that we have a genuine interest in what YOU do and how much we love your BAND but you seem to want to carry this on and play some type of victim role. Sane people make lousy rockers so… rock on my brother. All this notwithstanding, I can’t wait to see you next time you are in town. I can love your music, even if you don’t like me or my style.

  337. Kelvin vasquez

I been a fan of A trak since when i was in mexico . A trak is my favorite da i also love when he is duck sause. I remember at hard summer 2014 i was dancing all his set i had to ran to see him i almost cry but it was worth it because he was really amazig i willl like to win those tickets to dance one more time to his amazing music.

i don’t really understand why i am a ‘diva’ for hoping a ‘journalist’ would watch and listen to a band as a band. insult me all you want, but i gave my all, as i do every show. as does khan. and the band relies on the both of us as a unit to make the music we make, which you purport to enjoy. this isn’t ego. or me wanting to be in photos. this is a two person band, easy to frame into a photo, so simple you can hear both members’ personalities. the band wouldn’t exist without me and conversely without khan. we are a band. hate me or love me, i don’t care. i just want my band to deliver you rock’n’roll and energy that makes you feel something.
    thanks
    mark

  356. Jessy

Sooooo much fun! I too saw the Tweets. LoL. I don’t know why BBQ was so fussy. The review totally talks about him! And it’s funny. No photos of him sucks tho. But so does a broken camera and getting your hair pulled.

  357. Danny Baraz

Thanks brother Mike! I honestly don’t know how I could’ve been more complimentary!!! I compared the dude to a less satanic version of Misfits era Glenn Danzig!!! Quitcher bitchin and take the compliment fucker! I enjoy the attention though :)

  358. Mike M.

This show was insane! I had a wild time. BTW – saw your Twitter beef with Mark Sultan. Not sure what he’s crying about because I thought the review was awesome and totally entertaining. Love this band and love both Khan and BBQ. Mark, you rule! Don’t be diva

  359. Pumpkin Spice Yahweh

One of the sweet parts of this festival is the use of smaller (true) local bands mixed in, which you don’t get at fests like Coachella and Bonnaroo. Look out for Rusty Maples, Sabriel, Moksha, and Ekoh.

I must say, I and the three teens I brought to the show did not enjoy the opening act. As you noted the awkward presentation was just awful. But whether it was ironic or just cluelessness, making a big fuss about the father’s in the crowd and then the dedication…for a song that in the first two sentences are Your childhood is over and your Dad is dead from a gunshot.

    Seriously?!?!?

  414. Adam Vega

I go for that ham and pepperoni but I’m liking how that bayou beast is looking! I’m trying to go see Beach Fossils with my girlfriend on the 6th, since stubhub bought out all the tickets and jacked up the prices! :(

  415. Katie Purkiss

My Sundance roommate introduced me to Stromae’s music. We worked with a cute guy who said he was open to music recommendations, but when he listened to him he immediately shot back with an “And people complain about not being able to understand my music.” (Metal.) The roommate just saw him the other night in Colorado, so it’d definitely be fun to sit there and gush about how amazing in concert he is when we all meet back up in Utah in December! ;)

  416. Jessica Sill

My favorite pizza topping is sundried tomatoes and I would LOVE to go to the Operators show on October 9. I am a HUGE Dan Boeckner fan and this would be an honor to win. Thank you. ❤️

I would like to go to Mutual Benefit show at the echo on 10/16.

yes….i’m quite late. but….i’m hoping that you might take pity on someone who just literally saw this five minutes ago…..

my fave George song is What Is Life (the first 45 i ever bought) and I would be very excited to see Brian Wilson

  446. Kevin Campos

“WAH-WAH” is my favorite song by George Harrison!

I am most excited to see Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys!

  447. Max Goldblatt

I have this deep love for the muscular track “Ski-ing” he did with Eric Clapton on Wonderwall Music.

The lineup is so all over the place, but I mean that in a cool way. I’m curious to see which song Britt Daniel will be tackling.

  448. MoeV

Sadly, lukewarm reactions at the whiskey are all too common. It’s almost embarrassing. Outside of MSG, that stage is the holiest of holies in the world of rock venues, IMO.

  449. Elliott Marx

    Grimy Goods,

I already entered but forgot to mention that I would be most excited to see Dhani Harrison play his father’s music. Dhani has such integrity and his preserving dad’s legacy with dignity.
My favorite Harrison tune is Blood From A Clone.

  450. Elliott Marx

My absolute favorite George song is a rarity, Blood From A Clone; which is on the Somewhere in England album from 1981. But, I really love dozens of them – I have been a major fan my entire life and sadly, tickets sold out so fast, I tried to but tickets both times.

  451. Kate Mickere

Hi Grimy Goods! My favorite George songs is Let it Down. Would be most excited to see Dhani Harrison, Weird Al & Norah Jones.

  452. Tammi Vaughn

I love all of George Harrison’s songs, but as a child of the 80’s nothing puts a smile on my face like “Got my mind set on you”. Reminds me of cruising around in my mothers horrible yellow Cadillac Cadillac de Ville- it had an 8-track player.
I’m excited to see Dhani and Ann Wilson and Nora Jones and Brian Wilson and Weird Al and … everyone!

Thanks for the opportunity. You guys rule.

  453. Emily Calhoun

Hi Grimy Goods!! My favorite George Harrison song is “Here Comes the Sun.” Such a magical little song. I would be most excited to see the ever so wonderful Wayne Coyne ( A fellow Oklahoman.) I loved George Harrison and would love to be apart of such a special event!

  454. Jessica Stell

My favorite George Harrison song is While My Guitar Gently Weeps. However, it’s a very tough choice considering “Something” is my ringtone and All Things Must Pass is very special to me also. I’m a HUGE George Harrison fan and I would love the chance to be able to see his son, Dhani Harrison, pay tribute to his father. I would also love to see Wayne Coyne, Brandon Flowers and one of my favorite bands, Jamestown Revival. Fingers crossed! :-)

  455. Matt Kessler

Behind That Locked Door! Such an amazing song.

Excited to see Britt Daniel, Brandon Flowers, Ryan Miller and Wayne Coyne!

  456. Andie Mitsuda

So hard to choose just one! But I’d say “What is Life” is one that I never get tired of. I’m excited to see EVERYONE! …especially Dhani (and I’m curious to see what Weird Al has up his sleeves).

  457. Aaron

Of all of these tribute shows in recent years, by far this has got to be the damn coolest one ever. Just an unbelievable line-up. I would feel very privileged to attend (especially as I may not be going out to shows for a long while after my new baby arrives next month!!). Crazy to have to pick a favorite song, but I love “Art of Dying” and “Beware of Darkness.” Super psyched to see Brian Wilson (never seen him), Britt Daniel (Spoon was amazing at Hollywood Forever), Wayne Coyne, Ben Harper, Ryan Miller, Norah Jones… and Weird Al, what!?!

    Peas ~

  458. Justin Irvine

My favorite George Harrison song is While My Guitar Gently Sleeps and I am excited to see Britt Daniel! Thank you so much for doing this. Grimy Goods are the best!

  459. Lynnette Marshall

Hi Grimy Goods! My favorite George Harrison song is Something. I’ve loved it since I was a little girl, and if a guy dedicated it to me, it would be a guaranteed panty dropper :) I’d be super excited to see Brian Wilson, Wayne Coyne, Nick Valensi, and Weird Al!
    Thank you! xoxo

  460. Kathy Flynn

Favorite George Harrison song is “I Got My Mind Stuck on You.”

I am a huge Butch Walker fan so am most excited about seeing him, but am also excited about Brandon Flowers.

  461. Fawn Testa

Hi Grimy Goods! Favorite Harrison song has to be “What Is Life.” That song has so much energy and soul, and it ALWAYS makes me think of the film GoodFellas. And I would be most stoked to see Brandon Flowers and Nick Valensi. It would be unbelievable to go to George Fest!

“As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.” ~ Henry- GoodFellas

  462. Margarete Villalobos

One of my favorite George Harrison songs is ‘Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth).’ I would be super stoked to see Brian Wilson, definitely an artist on my music bucket list!!

  463. Ricardo Santiago

My favorite Harrison song right now is “All Those Years Ago” and I’d love to see Big Black Delta!

  464. Alissa Whelan

This might be my lucky day? What a stellar lineup and amazing tribute. Wayne, Norah, Brian… Yes please.

  465. Richard

Oh! I just read that Erin girl’s comment! Wow, really girl? Like anyone cares you’re a stylist or whatever. Pretty sure credit on blogs and magazines only go to those who create the written feature and photos. Unless you’re and A-list celebrity worth mentioning…

  466. Richard

I really prefer this new Sunset Strip and the new SSMF than opposed to all the crap bands that the Strip has become known for. It’s prime was in the 70s-90s and bookers just did not keep with the times, kept living in the past. Great review and photos!

  467. Matt Nielson

Hi Grimy Goods, My favorite George Harrison song is Beware Of Darkness and I would love to see Brain Wilson

  468. Sonia

Favorite George Harrison song is Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth). Quite an impressive list of artists paying tribute to George, super excited about Brian Wilson!!!! c’mon!

  469. Matt Nielson

Hi Grimy Goods. My favorite George Harrison song is Beware Of Darkness and I would love to see Brian Wilson. Thanks for the chance to win.

  470. Rachel garcia

Hey Grimy Goods! My favorite song is Fab, it would be a pleasure to go to a fest to celebrate and honor my favorite beetle George Harrison. I’m really want to see Nick Valensi from The Strokes becuse he has awesome guitar skills like the one and only George.

  471. Ismael Loya

Grimy Goods! This is your best ticket giveaway to date! My favorite George Harrison song… SO MANY… Toss up between “The Inner Light” and “Isn’t It a Pity”. Each song demonstrates George’s unique strengths in songwriting and guitar work. “The Inner Light” shows his mastering of the Indian Sitar sound while “Isn’t It A Pity” showcases his beautiful slide guitar work.
The acts I am excited to see are the great Brian Wilson, The Cold War Kids, Norah Jones, and George’s son Dhani Harrison. The eclectic lineup at this show is evidence of how George’s music of spirituality and love has influenced artists throughout the musical spectrum.

    Thank you, Grimy Goods!

  472. MSM

I would die and go to heaven if i won these tickets. Favorite song Isnt it a Pity and super excited to see Weird Al and Ann Wilson. Thank you Grimy!!!! xoxoxoxoxxo

  473. Dimitri Smith

Hi Grimy Goods! My favorite George Harrison song is “Piggies” from the White Album (the harpsichord is so triply and cool!). Also, I’m most excited to see Wayne Coyne at the festival. I think the Flaming Lips owe a lot to George. Thanks so much for doing this and I really hope I can go! Grimy Goods is my favorite website.

  474. Nancy Yip

Best George song is While My Guitar Gently Weeps ….the way he makes the guitar cry on this song is amazing… Would be amazing to hear someone great do this live! Excited to see Nick Valensi and hopefully Beck makes a special appearance!!!

  475. Monique Lopez

What an awesome show! I would love to experience this! My favorite George Harrison song is, My Sweet Lord. It totally reminds me of my ex but in an absolute good way. Excited to see Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Weird Al. =)

  476. Axel Ramos

Favorite George song…SOMETHING…. Theres just something about the way that song moves me. Attracts me like no other … HUGE STROKES FAN! So excited to see Nick Valensi!

Thanks for this contest! Hope I win!

  477. Alexandria

My Sweet Lord, hands down. I’ll be partial towards Something for the rest of my life for nostalgia reasons.

Excited to see, um, everyone. Weird Al? The Killers? Brian Wilson?

  478. Ryan Clark

That lineup is awesome! But I’d be most excited to see Britt Daniel, Nick Valensi & Brian Wilson. My favorite George Harrison tune — even though Dylan technically wrote it — is “If Not For You”. Harrison’s version will always be top in my book – even played it at my wedding when my wife walked down the aisle.

  479. Michelle Cuenca

My favorite George Harrison song has to be Isn’t it a Pity and I would love to see Dhani Harrison and Norah Jones!!

  480. Charlie Walker

…oh yea and im stoked for Ann Wilson, Jamestown Revival, and those special guests!!! And Jameson, duh ;)

  481. Charlie Walker

My favorite song by George is, although tough to decide, has to be ‘Here comes the Sun’. It’s spanned generations and will hopefully continue to. And with “winter” right around the corner here in LA, there’s nothing better than some hot (but not too hot) sunshine. It’s alright.

  482. Amanda Goodrich

Favorite GH song: What is Life

Most excited to see EVERYONE! But if I have to narrow it down, it’s a toss up between Wayne Coyne and Ann Wilson (Love me some Heart!). However, I am MOST excited to see who the special guests are! I’m hoping for Paul Simon!!

Just food for thought, really. Pretty much the type of responses that I expected. The same type of responses that vinyl Dj’s would have toward CD mixing dj’s. Totally understandable. But… Mr/Mrs “Concert Photographer”. Not all the images above are mine. The ones that are mine are The Orwells, Toy Dolls, The Weirdo’s, Gang Green and the skater, Haden Mckenna. I used a watermark on that one so of course everything but the watermark on him is blurry.

If I were an actual photographer, then I’d probably react the same way many of you are but many amazing shots have been taken with smartphones and I don’t think they should be ruled out completely.

  531. Jordan

Perhaps they can book a lineup that is not complete garbage — that way I don’t have to sell my early-bird tickets that I bought along with 10,000 other people.

    Desperate.

  532. Richard

Made In America LA was horrible. These idiots should not book a festival after FYF and Echo Park Rising. People were either too broke or burnt out to attend. I had free tickets but it just sucked. Genres all over the place and not worth the money if you paid.

That is great to know Danny. Ty is a monster on stage and a hell of a sweet guy so it sucked to read about the lackluster crowd response. I sure would of been there if I hadn’t relocated to Georgia (moved out here August 4th). I really miss Cali.

  541. Danny Baraz

Thanks Robb! I heard the following 3 nights were CRAZY for Ty at The Echo. I swear, it’s the “night 1″ crowd that acts like this. The guest list/vip crowd in Los Angeles is booty.

  542. Robb

Well written piece. I apologize if this comment is not as I type like crap on my phone. That being said, with the exception of the smell which has is fueled with the power of teen enthusiasm, most LA audiences are stick in muds compared to those in THE OC, Pomona and Frisco. I don’t think it is because those other areas have younger audiences but they are there to let loose and care less about putting on airs.
Anyway keep up the good work. I hope to catch TY in Athens or Atlanta.

I agree with you but there’s a difference between capturing THE moment and capturing EVERY moment. Do you really need a 1-minute clip of every single song from a set?

  552. Jordan

At first I too was a little sore about the whole cell phone thing at concets. But you gotta realize people just wanna capture the moment. And there is nothing wrong with that.

  553. A tim

Haha because I drove to coachella with no tix on a sunday to sneak in and catch them (includin others of course). After hopping some fences and running from security i caught the end of their last song.

And for once, I’d like to be in an intimate show where people dont hold their phones up 80% of the time and just enjoy the fucking performance.

Either way, peace, love and all that jazz. Thanks Grimy Goods n Scenester for killin it with info for years. Good luck everyone.

i missed little dragon at coachella this year because i had to help a friend in need! :/

  561. Anyssa

I’ve always wanted to see Little Dragon live but have always missed shows in the past and will have to miss them at fyf this year as well. I wanna sing and dance to them at least once while they’re in town! ;)

  562. Lynn Yang

my favorite band, i was listening to them at home, my 70yr old chinese mom says “hey what are you listening to…”, me “little dragon”, mom “oooh I like them” and starts tapping her feet. This is the appeal of good muaic, it crosses age, color, and cultural lines. little dragon’s sound is beautifully layered, gorgeous melodies, play sounds. I would love to see them in a small space.

  563. Monica Hernandez

The reason I went and paid $400 for Coachella was to see Little Dragon! I waited in the sweaty heat just to get a semi-decent view of them performing and I would love nothing more if I could just see them in a cool intimate setting such as Sonos Studios. Please, Grimy Goods make this happen for me!

  564. Dani

wasnt really worth going other than for peanut butter wolf which was just funny. theres gota be better bands in LA they could have had on.. i get that its a “rising” artists festival, but if this is all LA has to offer, then thats a problem in itself.

  565. michelle

oh man, i think im gonna cry because i want this so bad. SOOOO BAD. I’d kill to see little dragon, since ive never actually seen them! ive missed out ON EVERY SHOW, even their first one at the roxy. Theyre such an easter egg because they rarely do shows in socal now. so please, PICK ME!!!

  566. Monica Won

I’m so excited that you’re having this event!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Little Dragon! I’ve been listening to them for the past few years and would be so excited (between my sobbing and tears) to see them live!! I’m already in the process of hand making the crown from Constant Surprises to wear at FYF. Please Please Please pick me!! It would make my year and these personal experiences really make life so meaningful and full of adventure!

  567. Lisa

the line up wasn’t good though.. there we’re not actual stand our artists like there were last year. it was mostly mediocre, dated garage punk, pretentious indie rock etc..

  568. edward morales

My birthday is tomorrow and I love little dragon! This would absolutely make my 35th year of life super special! Thank you!!!

  569. Karen Thai

GrimyGoods! I cannot explain how much these tickets would mean to me except that : I would quite literally radiate Sunshine, ride in a Runabout like a Feather through the Nightlight as a Ritual Union with my Little Man. I would go through any Test and Scribbled Paper. I would Shuffle A Dream to find a Pink Cloud with Blinking Pigs. I would Klapp Klapp Twice as loud as all the Pretty Girls to see Little Dragon at Sonos Studio on Monday! It would mean that much!

  570. tesia kuh

Little Dragon is MONEY. I listen to their pandora station to set the mood for a chill day
If I got the email on August 22, it would make my birthday exponentially awesome-r!
I would have totally seen them if they were at FYF last year!

  571. Vera Paras

I’ve been following Little Dragon since their first show in LA at the Roxy. Since then, every other time I try to go to see them it’s been waaaaay too crowded, making it really hard to concentrate on the music. If I win, it would finally give me a chance to enjoy the band the right way.

  572. Brenna CC

Earlier this year, my best friend asked if I wanted to join her at Pappy & Harriet’s to see a little band called Little Dragon. Everyday after that for at least two months, I listened to their albums on Spotify over and over again (probably giving them some serious royalty dough!) Sure, I had heard a few songs on the radio, and had a few remixes downloaded from older albums, but listening to the albums in full was a whole-nutha-level of audible mastery. Yukimi’s voice is something of sirens and I’ve developed the ability to impersonate her style, but of course will never be the same. I’ve cried to their music, I’ve fallen asleep to their music, I’ve had sex to their music, I’ve dreamt of their music.

Suffice it to say, the Pappy & Harriet’s show was sold out, so I am entering this contest to thank my best friend for directing my ears towards the magic that is Little Dragon.

  573. Josephine Lazaro

So basically, i am the BIGGEST Little Dragon fan and i’m so sad that i cannot attend FYF. I was hoping they would have a concert here in LA but they’re only doing FYF. :( And i totally missed out on their free show recently when they released Nabuma Rubberband. I am so inlove with their new album that i listen to it almost everyday, all that needs to happen is to see them perform it live! ;) *wink wink* This would be the greatest to just end my summer with a private live concert from LITTLE freakin DRAGON. It would be an ecstatic feeling to win these tickets and i would love you guys FOREVER. So, puhleaseeeee pick me! :)

P.S. you guys are my favorite music blog website… just sayin ;)

I need to see Little Dragon! I gave up my FYF tickets because I have finals on Saturday… Check my schedule… I go to West Coast University… Finals on a Saturday??!?!?

  581. Tanya Iraheta

I LOVE Little Dragon. Nabuma Ruberband might be my favorite album off all time. I’ve been listening to it everyday at least twice a day since its release. I own it on vinyl & CD & still bought it on itunes :) I drove from the valley to see them at Pappy & Harriet’s in Pionertown (2.5 hour drive) & that show was pure magic. I’ve been too lots of shows & that one ranks in my top 3. A few months ago I entered their Nabuma Derby contest & unfortunately didn’t win the grand prize, but was their Honarable Mention #1 :D check for yourself http://www.nabumarubberband.com

  582. Gemma Jimenez

I have been trying to see Little Dragon so many times but I have been having the worst of luck lately but it seems like many have too. Anyways, here I am again hoping for the best.

  583. carlos cuauhtémoc aguas-pinzón

pick me because i am a genuine fan and would really appreciate seeing true artists is a great space.

  584. Rozania

OM FUCKING G. Pleas pick me! The only reason I wanted to go to FYF was to see Little Dragon. And I have no tickets to FYF. :(

  585. Chris Chavez

Well, why not me? That’s all. Simple and to the point. Love Little Dragon… That’s all

  586. Kathrine Bryan

I would LOVE to see Little Dragon at Sonos Studio! Seeing them in such an intimate setting after FYF would be icing on the cake!

  587. Vanessa Hurtado

A private Little Dragon show?!! This is too good to be true! You should pick me to so that I can tell everyone you weren’t lying. Also because I’ve been listening to Nabuma Rubberband pretty much non-stop since it came out. You ROCK Grimy Goods!!

  588. Audrey

You should give me these tickets because not only do I donate monthly to KCRW and crush on Jason Bentley, a while back Spotify sent me a weird email of congratulations and achievement for being in the top 10% of Little Dragon listeners, I guess according to their algorithms and spying. Nonetheless, I am a huge Little Dragon fan.

  589. Frank Mojica

I would love to see Little Dragon at Sonos Studio because I had tickets to see them at the Roxy, The Avalon, Echoplex and Natural History Museum and ended up out of town for ALL of them. They seem to only do festival shows now in Southern California, so one last intimate set at Sonos would make unbelievably happy.

  590. Pat

Hey Grimy Goods! Little Dragon is great, like really, they’re super cool. But I think the real reason we all want to go to this shindig is in the hopes that taking a trip to the Sonos Studio is kind of like visiting Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. There’s no way I’m walking out of that place with some mad Sonos gear to deck my place out in. After party at my place! Someone send the invite out to Little Dragon!

  591. Anthony

Oh my god please give me this, my best friend and I would just love to attend this!! I’ve entered a bunch of GG contests and never won :( to win this one would be awesome!

  592. Jessica Vela

Hey Grimy Goods! Choose me cause i lurve music and prefer small and intimate(when it comes to music shows) compared to large sweaty crowds. Porfis!

  593. Tony

This would be a chance of a lifetime to see my favorite band live and in an intimate setting. This would be an unbelievable experience I would love to share with my wife. A memory we will cherish for a lifetime.

  594. Andrea

Can we just talk about how AMAZING they all dress?? And her voice is just to die for. Please pick me! I’ve been a fan since the very beginning and I NEED to see them!!

  595. Tanya

It would be so great to celebrate my 1st year anniversary with my honey listening to our FAVORITE band! This would just be THE BEST gift I can give :D

    Thank you!!

  596. Michelle

IVE MISSED ALL OF THEIR SHOWS BY MERE SECONDS AND IT WOULD BE AWESOME TO FINALLY SEE A FULL SET!! PLEASE PICK MEEEE!!!

  597. Kristen

This would be amazing! I have a good friend that I know would love to be surprised and see Little Dragon in this kind of setting. It would mean a lot for us to go!

  598. Joanne

Please choose me! Little Dragon is amazing. Their energy would be so awesome to see live. I love Yukimi!

  599. Ryan McDonald

O boy! Private Little Dragon performance! Well, I missed them at Treasure Island Music Festival last year due to an unforeseen incident involving a frat boy and what I’ll say was a bad reaction to some “feel good stuff.” Needless to say I needed to go home and clean up. I think a private Little Dragon performance with a Jason Bentley chaser is the cure! How about it Grimy Goods?

  600. Shelly

I’ve loved Little Dragon since the very beginning and I’ve missed them EVERY SINGLE TIME! I even went to their comic book event and I was 10 people away from being let in. PLEASE! ID LOVE TO SEE THEM OFFICIALLY!

  601. Dale

This is awesome! My girlfriend is the biggest Little Dragon fan in the world. She would go crazy she got to see them!!!! Send us pleeease!

What this article doesn’t say is that the noise level in the concert is extremely loud and Spoon doesn’t even care. The residents that live in the surrounding area are fed up. The LAPD doesn’t do anything because corporate money is in control here.

  630. Concert Photographer

    BAHAHAHAHAH

“The learning curve would’ve taken me years to get the same quality from the DSLR as I get from my iPhone.”

I have so many problems with this. You had the camera for A WEEK?!?!?!?!!? And it didn’t turn out very well. That’s like saying you took a week of calculus and couldn’t do advanced problems.

Also the sample concert/live music pictures used in this as “iphone” shots are a) not in focus b) blurry c) grainy d)over/underexposed. Heck you should have been able to accomplish the same with any DSLR. It doesn’t matter if you were shooting with a 1d on zeiss primes if you can’t even compose the shot. Also if you don’t have appropriate lens, know shutter speeds, know your iso, or know what f stop to be at that could also present lots of problems.

  631. Ryan McDonald

Great article. As someone who was a contributing photographer for The Bay Bridged in SF for years I always used both a DSLR and an iPhone while at shows. The iPhone’s capability is limited but so is a DSLR. There will always be inherent limitations in any type of technology.

It really boils down to what you deem to be the most appropriate camera for the current situation/output of the final project. I would never submit photographs to be published that were used with an iPhone. My reasoning is not because of an inflated ego due to my proficiency with a DSLR but because I want to publish the highest quality image for that type of output. I’m not able to edit or process an iPhone image in photoshop they way I want to because it does not produce a raw file. Conversely, I use my iPhone for snapshots, much like many people over the previous decades have used Polaroids for. Don’t tell me you wouldn’t like to shoot some polaroids of your favorite band from the pit (if only the price of the film would come down.)

Hell, if I got back into concert photography I might consider doing an editorial piece on fellow photographer’s reactions to using my high-tech smartphone from the pit. How about it Grimy Goods?

Are you kidding me?! To the over sensitive idiot comment from “Q” … I love Grimy Goods Hot Vs Not section! It’s about fashion and fun you idiot. I come for the music but always venture to Hot Not for the laughs and or fashion insight. Also, I don’t see any criticism here. It’s actually very open ended. If you don’t like it, don’t click. Simple as that. Besides, you’re probably some overweight “feminist” that cries about any stupid little thing these days. Get a life!

  641. Ryan

Why does grimy goods always have this shit like its a good music blog and you keep making these irrelevant posts shaming and criticizing women for their choices? Why do you care so much. Who gives a shit if u can see her butt cheeks like you didnt know she had butt cheeks? I have butt cheeks too so what ur probably blessed as hell u can kinda see her buttcheeks its disgusting and pathetic this website really feels the need to devote entire pages s to shit like this. 678. Daniel Rene Contreras II

Firstly, I would love to attend this Skyy Boiler Room exclusive event because my good friend and I always just end up streaming the live feeds and drinking anyway… Figured why not experience the real thing!! (: Plus attending a live Boiler Room has been on my bucket list since the first video I watched. P.S. Happy Anniversary GRIMYGOODS!!!!!!!!!! <3

  679. Richard mora

The boiler room! That’s awesome! I want to win because I want to be on YouTube and have people post comments like “look at that guy, he’s so cool”! Lol

  680. American Pancake (@AmericanRobb)

Wyatt Blair- the man of mythical proportions (that sounds weird and creepy) has always been a work horse so it does not surprise me that his record store / label is growing at a rapid pace. It used to freak me out because he seemed to be omnipresent lending his musical skills to more than one band at a time. Not only that, I just seem to run into the guy everywhere. I remember one time, I drove out to interview Kera and the Lesbians and there was Wyatt recording them at their practice space. This guy is no slacker and I am stoked that Lolipalooza was such a roaring success.

  681. Mat

Only caught the first 3 songs yet still writing a review for the live show? The basement idea was great cuz most of the Hardcore Devo songs were never played outside the band’s initial basement days… until now. There was quite a build up as the set progressed. There was a set change that took us out of the basement scene, and the band did “discover” a box of blue outfits that we’ve all come to expect from Devo. Bob2’s son came on state to play a song with the band in his pop’s memory. Songs included: “Space Girl Blues,” “Stop Look and Listen, “Jocko Homo,” “Soo Bawls,” “Midget,” “Satisfaction,” and “Uncontrollable Urge.” It was awesome.

I am seriously excited for it allllll!!! I was able to attend last year and though I handled it like a champ until I finally made it to the dessert section and everything was GONE! :( if I have the opportunity to attend this I will definitely hit up every dessert and exceed my sugar intake happily. I aim to get churro borough in my belly for sure and some tequila tasting done. Don’t worry though, since I’ll be hopped up on sugar I am thinking I’ll be set to conquer tacos from Candela taco bar, ceviche bar, Mexicali tacos.. And everything else!

  697. Laura

It was really hard to pick just one…but I would definitely stop at the Ramond 1886 for a cocktail
, the grilled cheese truck (haayyy) after that and then beignets from Confexion Cupcakes.

  698. Jacqueline Li

My sweet tooth says that I’m most excited for the churro burrough!!!!!!! I mean……churros + ice cream in a holdable fashion? whoa. PLUS the fact that they’re so elusive and can be found here makes me even more enticed!! Saffron & Rose: i love ice cream and rose flavoured everything.

Thank you, thank you !!! I have been a concert goer for many years … And have yet to mind the “space invasion ” of the front row… For me it actually enhances the vibes when everyone is crowded together having a great time … ; but I’ll never forget the one recent experience front row at Brandon Boyd in February …. This girl kept looking back at me giving this deflating balloon sigh , shaking her head and asking me to back up . Mind you , thus was a small venue and most of the crowd was extremely (bleh) mellow , so no one was crowding , not even me . I was a good 6 inches behind her . She was freaking out that I was too close . Are you kidding me ? Excuse me , but do you realize you’re front row at a concert ?!!! So annoying ! She finally left , and I was to enjoy Mr. Boyd once again w my fellow front row-ers. So , PLEASE people ; if you don’t like crowds, dancing and life in general … STAY OUT OF THE FRONT ROW!!

  739. Graham

Keep your clothes on. It’s so bizarre to me when you’re at a show and someone takes their clothes off, especially pants. And I think Suzanne brought up a valid point, don’t yell for your favorite song. It’s very rude.

I would love to win tickets because I’m a broke college student looking for a little summer fun. Help a music lover out. Also, First City Festival is the weekend before my boyfriend’s birthday. I’d love to surprise him with tickets. Forever grateful if chosen. Thank you! Have a wonderful day. xoxo

  748. Renee Rivera

I would love a chance to win tickets for this year’s First City Festival! I was able to go last year and it was the best experience. The lineup was fantastic, the crowds were great and the atmosphere was just perfect (loved the carnival rides and all of the delicious food!). Compared to other festivals, First City Festival was such a down-to-earth experience and just so relaxed and enjoyable (I never could have enjoyed sets from the comfort of a blanket under a tree AND still have a great view of the stage at Outside Lands!). I’d love to be able to see The National, Phantogram, Best Coast and Tokyo Police Club (among the many other amazing bands that are lined up to perform!) as I’m sure they’ll each deliver GREAT sets. Monterey isn’t a bad place for a music festival either. ;) Submitting this with fingers crossed! (e-mail: rprivera1991@gmail.com)

  749. Steffany P

I would love to win these tickets because it would be my first music festival I would be attending, and it would be a great first festival to attend. I love going to concerts and the feeling of being at a concert is like no other. When you can literally feel the music flowing inside you, it’s the most magical experience, and you can’t get it anywhere else. If I’m chosen to win these tickets, I’ll definitely make sure to put them to good use! Definitely planning on seeing Best Coast, Geographer, and Lo-Fang if I go! Thank you for holding this giveaway!

  750. Danesa Lopez

I really really love this lineup, I just finished watching OITNB and now i have nothing else to do with my life. Plus I’m moving to monterey in August & it would be so cool to attend a music festival in a city that I will be living in. I also love best coast and monterey is on the best coast cause we’re on the west coast. Its also gonna be the last weekend of summer and this would be way to end it. I also bought a coachella ticket last year to see the naked and famous but couldn’t go bc my car broke down and i was attending san jose state and it became too much money to fix the car and attend coachella, besides dropping money on the car i also lost money from not attending coachella the money i saved up all year, attending this music festival to see i could have seen at coachella would mean everything to me! much love, peace and good vibes

  751. Lucy

Why I want to go: Because BECK, and I didn’t get to see his full set at Coachella. My friends and I planned to ride the ferris wheel on Sunday, during Lana del Rey’s set (heh). Instead of going straight to the ferris wheel queue, they wanted to grab food BEFORE lining up!! While they took forever to eat, I ditched my group temporarily to watch part of Beck’s set. A little later, they called me and told me to hurry up and come to the ferris wheel line. They even let other people go in front of them at the line, and bought a ticket for me! How could I say no?…even though I was already an asshole for ditching them. So I missed some of Beck’s set. Apparently I missed E-Pro. :( I did catch Soldier Jane and a MJ cover, though. Definitely want to see more!

I’d also like to see The National, Geographer, and Miniature Tigers! Such an eclectic lineup. Thanks for another awesome giveaway!

  752. Angela Lopez

I would love to go to FCF again this year, I had the time of my life last time! I went last year for the Sunday lineup and this year my friend and I wanna go for the weekend. Gotta see The National, Phantogram, Blind Pilot, Lake Street Dive, and Cults!!! <3

  753. Vanessa Hurtado

I’d love to go to First City Festival! Monterey is such a beautiful place and I’ve never been here for a festival. It would be awesome to see Beck, Phantogram and Mr. Little Jeans (just to name a few)! And while I’m there, I’ll have to check out the sea otters at Monterrey Bay Aquarium.

  754. Gina Fant

I would love to see The National, Naked and Famous, Puddles and …….wait….. did you say Future Islands?? Grimy Goods, you’re so awesome that my heart skips a beat !

I hear from women on Tinder all the time complaining about guys taking pics of themselves with tigers – but I also see an equal number of women with pics of themselves with a tiger! What’s with the damned tigers? Oh, and kissing dolphins. Really? What’s that all about?
I even saw a woman posing with a Ferarri – and in their profile complaining about the guys with the tigers. Hello?! It’s the same thing!
Otherwise the biggest bugbears are the same as listed – the whole point of Tinder – as opposed to the many other dating sites/apps out there – is to go with your immediate gut instinct based on looks alone. And yet so many women just refuse to show themselves – mostly pics of themselves with other people (we really don’t care enough to figure out which one you are), looking away, face not actually showing at all or half covered up. Seriously, if you’re so ashamed of yourself that you can’t show your face we don’t want to date you!

  771. Anna

I would love to attend this festival! I’ve never been to it before but it looks like fun. My favorite band, The National, will be headlining as well, so how can I resist! I don’t live in northern California nor have I been to Monterey either, so the experience will be completely new and refreshing to me!

I really wanted to go to the festival last year but I couldn’t. After reading the reviews and looking at the awesome pictures is last year I definetely want to go this year! My brother is moving up there for school in the fall and would like to take him to the festival. Would be so exciting to see Phantogram, Beck, The National, and the Naked and Famous, since I’ve missed their LA shows. I would also be excited to see Future Islands, I’ve been listening to their Singles’ CD a lot lately, it’s so good!!

  776. Eden Waldon

I am a festival virgin and I want to be exposed. Raw, ripped and real with the best in the west. Beck is bitchin along with my all time favorite group, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. Keep those good vibes rolling and keep it kitch!

  777. Samuel Nieto

Dear Grimy Goods, thanks for doing this contest. Honestly, it always feels like these contests are hard to win but I have a good feeling about this one. So, fingers crossed. When I first heard about First City’s Festival line-up this year, I got pretty excited because The National AND Beck are headlining and a lot of other cool bands and artists are playing too. If I were to win, it’d make my year. I love these bands like Best Coast, Blind Pilot, Tokyo Police Club, and The National. Actually, The National’s “Trouble Will Find Me” is one of my favorite albums ever and The National is one of my true, favorite bands and I’ve never had the privilege to see them live. So, not only would it be special to see them up in Monterey (which I’ve never been too, sadly) but I would take my friend who lives up there that I only get to see once a year (who’s also crazy about The National). But also, I’ve never really been to these sorts of festivals because money’s always been tight so, it’d be pretty sweet to win. It’d make me and my friend’s summer. I swear I’ll take lots of pictures and blog about it and tell my kids, if I ever have any, about it someday because it sounds really exciting. Thanks, Grimy Goods.

  778. Felix Montoya

It would be a real treat to win these passes! Being that it takes place on my birthday week! I’d also do anything to be able to witness Matt move the crowd with The National. They’re one of my all time favorite bands! Also who wouldn’t want to see Beck?

  779. Kate winters

Hey I would LOVE to go the first city festival because I’ve haven’t been to many concerts let alone festivals….it would be a spectacular first for me. I adore all bands such as beck, phantogram, cults, Tokyo police club, the naked and the famous, unknown mortal orchestra. Monterey is my home, and I can’t believe all these bands are coming to my back yard! I’m going to be a college student soon, (I will be broke) so this festival let me go out with a bang. Pleas please please!!!!! Let me win! It would truely mean the world to me. Thank you for listening~

  780. Sammi Tuttle

Love seeing my favorite bands in my home town! Spend lots of time at the fairgrounds and it’s amazing to be there with such an amazing line up. Best Coast and The National are some of my favorites! NEED to win because I’m a broke high school student! :)

Sleepy Sun, The National, Beck, CocoRosie etc.!!!

I am hoping to win tickets for first city fest because the trip alone is pricey. I need to be at this festival because I am too old for huge, scalped, electronic wrist band, agro festivals. I want to experience this boutique festival in its second year before it blows up and has to move to a huge venue, or two weekends…

  810. Kathy Nguyen

This is gonna be my first time going to First city & I heard how fun it was from all my friends going previous years. The lineup especially was what sold me, & for me to pick one band was hard bc I really like majority of them ( which is another great reason you should pick me ;))

  811. Jason Y.

i would LOVE to attend First City Festival for many reasons. It’s taking place in Monterey, just times from where I live! At the historical event center where Janis Joplin, The Mamas and The Papas & The Who all took the stage in ’67 kicking off the summer of love. This years First City’s line up is just as amazing as last years, if i win these tickets i’d be super stoked for Beck, Cults, Blind Pilot, The Naked and Famous, and Lake Street Drive! Attending this festival would be the absolute best way to end the summer!! :)

  812. Laura Davis

I want to go to First City Festival because, well, let’s face it…it’s on SACRED GROUNDS. I mean, this is the place that Jimi Hendrix sacrificed his guitar, where Janis Joplin sang her unforgettable performance of Ball and Chain, and where the Who shocked the audience with their destructive stage performance. First City Festival creates the feel of what music festivals were made for. I would love to see Beck, The National, Lake Street Dive, Best Coast, Dawes, The Men, and Doe Eye. I’ve been waiting way too long for a chance to see Best Coast. Life is just better at a music festival. Especially somewhere that has has such gnarly history.

  813. Pat Moan

    Hey Grimy Goods,

Well, let me start off by saying that you guys are awesome for giving out tickets. I have never been to First City Festival, but with a lineup this good it’s hard to resist. Chilin’ out in a huge park area with nice people and great music. Sounds like the perfect way to end an equally great summer. I can’t wait to see The National and Phantogram, but Beck takes the cake on this one… His new album was made for a festival like this, and his old hits are incomparable. Would be sooo stoked to win these tickets!

    Thanks again dudes!

  814. Sam Elmi

I have been a loser for six months. I want to start seaing change in my lifestyle, and what better way than to take a mellow road trip up to gamma-rey.

  815. Chad

The Grimy is always hooking up cool contests! Phantogram, Cults and the Lonely Wild are among my favorites! Would love to spend the weekend w/ them all! thanks!

  816. Jackie Andruscavage

What an amazing lineup. The music festivals this year are superb! This one especially. I would kill to see Beck and Phantogram. Free rides are definitely a plus as well. This would be a fun little road trip from LA and I would get to spend an amazing weekend in such an enviornment with people just enjoying each other and good music!

We want to see Beck, The Naked and Famous, Phantogram, Best Coast, Dawes, Cults, Tokyo Police Club, Mr. Little Jeans, and pretty much everyone! This would definitely be the highlight of our year if we could win! And we have friends who live nearby that we could visit. A win win to a fun little getaway.

  831. Jerry

Great week of shows. First Aid Kit and Thursday’s Troubadour lineup with The Wind and The Wave are my personal picks.

  832. Melissa

I’d love to win tickets after being scammed out of Coachella tickets this year, I can’t afford to get tickets to see the naked and famous and THE NATIONAL! They’re my favorite.

  833. Vanessa Garcia

I really want to win tickets to First City because I was going to buy my own but then I got an email that my place of work is going out of business :/
I’m also having to sell my pass to another festival, which is crappy and I’m totally bummed about it. Being an adult sucks, but going to awesome festivals like First City really helps make it not suck all that much! I really want to see Phantogram because Sarah Barthel is Sexy!

  834. Melissa

Seeing Cocorosie would be so awesome, not to mention the rest of the bands that will be there. This festival seems like a fun experience and I’d love to have the chance to go!

  835. Fallon

Why because it’s a carnival FOR GROWN UPS and the rides are free?!?! And because of beck, phantogram, how to dress well, quilts, Dawes, mr little jeans, the mutha fucking national, midlake, Blind pilot.

  836. Sandra

I’d love the chance to spend a weekend with beautiful people in beautiful Monterey listening to beautiful music! And I’m particularly lookin’ forward to The Naked and Famous + Phantogram :0)

I would want to go as I haven’t been to festival all year and that needs some changing. I’d want to check out Beck, Best Coast, and Cults

  842. Rose

Last year I want to the inaugural First City Festival with my boyfriend, his sister and her partner from Oakland. It was the first of many, first First City Festival, my first time in Monterey, my first time meeting my man’s sister, my first music festival and our first long trip together. It was AMAZING! We weren’t planning on going back this year as we live in North Carolina even though we’d both love to see Phantogram (seeing them in Carrboro this past year wasn’t enough!) and so many other bands. BUT if we won these tickets it would be a dream come true and year two of an amazing tradition. Crossing my fingers!

  843. Nancy Motherway

I would love to attend the First City festival to see Beck, The Naked and Famous, Phantogram, Best Coast and Blind Pilot the most. And because Monterrey is so lovely in the summertime too.

  844. Evelyn

I just discovered future Islands a couple months ago through grimy goods and I would love nothing more than to see them live. This blog has seriously introduced me to so much quality music. Music I would have never known of.

  845. Amy

This festival would be an absolute dream for me, as I’ve never seen any of these bands live but have been listening to them for years (CocoRosie, Beck, Tokyo Police Club). I love the mix of the new (Cults, Best Coast) and the old (The National, Beck). Given the beautiful location, this would be THE way to kick off my summer!!!

  846. Garrett b

Would live to be able to take my girl out of town for a little getaway (she freakin deserves it) while getting to see and hear some awesome music. The National will always bestow my heart but I also look forward to Beck and Tokyo Police Club. Thanks again for another Grimy opportunity!

  847. Martin Cisneros

I would really love a pair of tickets to this festival because I was unable to purchase FYF tickets and am pretty bummed out about it. But this festival, being on the same day as FYF, would be a really great way to get over it. Plus, the lineup seems really good! I’m a huge fan of Cults, Phantogram, Best Coast, and of course the Naked and Famous and seeing them live would mean a lot and be a total blast!!! Thank you :)

  848. Krystle

I just want an excuse to take time off from my shitty job tbh. I want to see Beck!

  849. Phoebe Smolin

Basically, everything about this festival is home to me. Dawes’ ‘Time Spent in Los Angeles’ song made me feel both at home and okay far away from it when I was living in New York, Speedy Ortiz is from my adopted Western Mass home where I lived for 5 years and probably drunkenly mumbled some embarrassing things to them in a basement a few times. Lake Street DIve sings me awake and asleep most days, Beck and Best Coast sound like the the angsty confusing Los Angeles i love so dearly. It’s just too good.

  850. Ivet

I really would love a pair of tickets to this fest because it would be my first Festival in Cali since I moved from the south 10 months ago! And it would be a good 1yr anniversary of being a Californian gift for mua!

I would love to see Beck, and The National (because they are my favorite band!!!!! ;_____________________;), Phantogram, Cults, Cocorosie, and hopefully catch some of the other bands that I don’t know but hopefully enjoy something new!

I would LOVE to check out this festival. It’s been a rough couple months and a getaway to check out some amazing music with my girlfriend would be great. I’ve also never seen The National, who are one of my favorite bands. And we’d be able to visit friends in Monterey!

  852. Trevor Smith

I’d love to take my wife to the festival. She’s never been to Monterey and Beck and Dawes are two of here favorite bands!

  853. Alissa whelan

I recently moved from Asheville nc to california and I am homesick. Nothing could help that homesick feeling like a great festival in a beautiful city. Dawes, lake street dive, beck… Oh yes. Please and thank you : )

BTW… I totally agree with you about photographers reviewing shows but that’s what I’m asked to do.

Hi! My friend finally graduated from CSUF and we both love M.I.A. It would be amazing to be able to attend this concert since the last time she was in LA we were knee deep and in a dark place due to schoolwork. At times I just wanted to toss my books across the room and scream “Y.A.L.A” and do this whole school business in another lifetime haha. FORTUNATELY, we both finally got our diplomas this year and this would be such a grand way celebrate! Thanks GrimyGoods!!!

    Hi GrimyGoods!

Super stoked to see M.I.A. it’s not like she hasn’t home to L.A. a bunch, because she has. My thing is that I haven’t always been the most financially gifted music snob so I’ve missed her each time. This my one of may attempts to get to see her. Love her album, it’s my party anthem through this funky weather. Hopefully my day will come when I’ll get to see her.

    Keep up the great work!

    Love,
    K

*ahem* I am one of the said homies that Mr. Rob Obedoza up there is referring to in his comments. and actually, it was myself who hipped Mr. Obedoza to M.I.A. and I’ve supported her since the beginning. I’ve been wanting to see her for years, but just hasn’t happened. So it’d be a great F-U to my homie, Rob Obedoza, if you award me those tix and I bring someone else to the show lol

  891. Rob Obedoza

I’d like to win a pair of tickets because I was supposed to go see M.I.A. in San Francisco back in 2007 when ‘Arular’ came out but didn’t end up going because I couldn’t get the day off of work to drive mid-week to SF from Sacramento. My friends (one who lived in SF a few blocks away from the venue) didn’t end up going either because they said I ruined the whole thing by not being able to go and to this day still bring it up every now and then even though we were all grown ass men at the time and they could have easily gone without me. So winning tickets and going to the show would be a nice F-U to those homies :)

  892. tal

I know You Always Live Again, but I’d rather see MIA live before I get reincarnated as a goat, not after. PS does flattery work? If so, Grimy Goods is awesome. If not, it’s still awesome but I’ll try not to be obnoxious about it

  893. Andrea (@drea_5)

I LOVE M.I.A.!!!! I have been wanting to see her perform live for a long time. I would have bought the tickets, but I had to prioritize grad school app fees. I am super stressed just waiting to hear back from schools so this would help me de-stress and have some FUN!

I am MIA’s twin!!! Been listening to her music since Arular with Bucky Done Gun and Sunshowers!! And take all my fashion inspiration from MIA too. My parents have always loved her music too – I am half Indian half white so her music hits home for us. The only time I was able to see MIA I was in college, blew my savings and flew to Austin to see her at ACL and had the time of my life!!!!! I am a huge fan and would love to see her again – especially at an LA show!! I don’t have a lot of money (and work in music – go figure) and would love to see her live again!! If I could I would drop any amount of money to see her live again!!! She’s been my #1 for so long now – please pick me!!

I’ve been an early fan and have enjoying watching M.I.A. evolve as an artist. I cannot stop listening to her latest record, and its been on repeat ever since it came out. Love the things she has to say, and respect her way of getting them across.

  908. Karla

Oh yes, no word on this but I’m extremely hopeful that Damon Albarn will give us some FYF love as well. That would be so so incredibly fucking brilliant! (:

  909. Jose Martinez

I live for MIA! I love how she’s such a feminist and is so outspoken. She has that bad girl attitude which empowers her women fans! She’s amazing and I would be honored to attend one of her spectacular shows! If I am chosen, please email me at jmart073@ucr.edu

  910. Jordyn Avila

Reasons I should win MIA tickets
    1. Grimy goods is the fucking shit
    2. If I don’t win tickets I will fly so high and become MIA

  918. azin

been a fan since the first record, remember being in nyc and her songs popping into my head…
like that she started out doing art/visuals for other artists. she’s wicked good.
would love to get the visual overload experience at the show!

  919. Carlos Cuauhtémoc Aƍuas-Pinzón

ditto on everything kenny c wrote, except that i have seen her live (somehow ended up in a party of 12 people at the amazing belasco show!).
since then, i’ve been wanting to see her again, i’m just happy i don’t have to wait another year. thus, i would love to go see her at the shrine – i vow to twerk on stage in your honor!

  920. kristen

M.I.F**CKING.A, she’s absolutely amazing! Who wouldn’t want to see her?! She’s just so carefree and what every women should be (maybe minus a rap career). She takes shit from no one and still remains to be a great mother. I’d love to get my bucky done gun on, fly some paper planes, and come down, come down, comeeeee down during her performance. I bet she awesome live!!!

  921. Gina Kim

I’ve loved MIA since high school, and have yet to have the chance to see her. I’ve never had the chance to see her play live, and I was so bummed I missed the year at Coachella when she played because I was in nursing school. I would love the chance to see her play for the first time ever in my life. Please pick me!!! :)

  922. Jerry

Good shows this week. Looking forward to seeing Strange Talk at the Bardot and with Broods.

  923. Denise lopez

    Reasons to pick me:
    1. Im broke and cant afford to buy a pair of tix (i really can’t think of any better reason)
    2. I liked her way before people jumped on the “paper planes” bandwagon :) (i know that sounds hipster af but it’s true!!)
    3. I always seem to lose at these contests :'( so for once it would be nice to win :-)
    4. I <3 grimy goods :-*

  924. Rocio Flores

t is my birthday on the night of the show it would make a great gift, I have admired M.I.A since the beginning of her career and have not had the pleasure to see her live, please help me encounter a very magical night with the experience of enjoying her music in concert. ✌

  925. Mike A

Hey guys Winning a pair of tickets to this show would be fucking amazing. My 1 year anniversary with my gf lands on that weekend so ending the Saturday night with an M.I.A show would be a great expirience & memory. Thanks y’all

  926. Kenny C

I’ve been an MIA fan since day one… from her beginnings with Diplo and Switch on Arular and Kala, to MAYA (my least favorite album), to Matangi. I’ve yet to see her live and if you had to pick someone for these tickets, it should be me! I won’t only appreciate the music, but the art as well. I respect MIA as a musician, visual artist, politcal activist, and bad ass female. These tickets definitely won’t go to waste if you choose me!

Pretty sure this photo is in regards to the three main girls in the frame. Not sure why some people are throwing a shit about this. A.) LA concert goers do suck. Only a couple handfuls of us actually clap, yell and get into it. B.) Haven’t you seen Vice’s Dos and Don’ts?

    Keep delivering the goods Grimy!

  942. Janelle

This photo is straight up comedy and as an avid Grimy Goods reader, most of their HOT VS NOT are totally praising, especially on women. And not “negative”. Quit being such a shitty baby about a hilarious photo that clearly depicts a problem with fans at shows. If anything, this photo is proof of that problem.

“I came here to get pregnant”
    “I miss Costa Mesa”

“This sucks. I should stop hanging out with these girls. And why the fuck is this Swedish guy on my right?”

  950. Lisa Lee

To the genre nazi above (Jim). Were you even at this show? Because Mystic Braves set was TOTALLY psych heavy, and there’s absolute nothing wrong with that. Just because a band’s set is a certain way live, doesn’t mean that that is their ONLY genre classification. How would you define their Monday night set, (not their genre) because after all that is what this is about: their show review.

  951. Jim Ramirez

Mystic Braves are heavy psych? Really?! C’mon get your facts straight. Photographers shouldn’t be reviewing bands

Well hey there, My name’s Kevin, I record music using the moniker, Laurel Blossom.

I actually record everything myself in my bedroom a la Kevin Parker (Tame Impala).

I’d love a Apogee MiC 96k to record some kickass vocals, currently none of my songs have vocals because I’m in dire need of a solid vocal microphone! I’ve been told my music sounds like something Drake would sing over, and I feel I deserve a chance to have my voice heard before people say that, although it’s a nice compliment!

I hope to record soon so people can start listening to my music, and I have high hopes of playing festivals and shows around the world!
I’m infatuated with the glamour of pop music.

you can check out my music here:)

Hi, I’m an Italian voice talent and I usually work in my home studio with a ONE and I love it. I also often travel through Italy and Europe, so MIC 96k combined with my iPad and Garage Band would be perfect to have a real globe-trotting-studio. I would love to be an Apogee testimonial as I’m 100% satisfied and enthusiast!

  976. Elliott Marx

I record and release my own quirky musical theater songs, I am passionate about doing this. I am equally passionate about my day job as a special education teacher in the local public school system. A microphone of this caliber, is something that I could not afford. With it, I will be better able to satisfy my artistic goals. Professional quality microphones make a major difference toward cleaning up the audio experience. I would not take a prize like this for granted.
My one-man-band is called Hot Liquids Burn Like Fire, here is one of my recent songs: http://hotliquidsburnlikefire.bandcamp.com/track/this-is-nothing-new

I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for the consideration.

Grimy Goods, I need this mic package! I tell stories for NPR shows and make films with experimental sound elements, and I want to use this mic to record and produce my own podcasts, and also to record my music and sound elements for scoring films. This would make my life so much easier, because I wouldn’t have to pull favors to borrow various devices from friends, and I could do it all on my own. Please, please, please! Hi guys! I would love to win this mic for my home recordings which are primarily made up of acoustic guitar and vocals recorded on a Mac using Garageband and Logic Pro. I have heard great things about Apogee mics and I think winning this mic would be a great introduction to the company. An example of my music is here: http://youtu.be/f93FwHcZqXQ

    Thank you for the opportunity!

  1003. Eldon Powles

My wife is amazing at writing kids stories and i have nagged and nagged her to create interactive kids books for the iPad. My 4 year old girl has a real raspy, studio voice. If you were so kind enough to give me the mic to record my 4 year old girl record the voice over for my wives ebooks then perhaps this will drive her to start them. As the quality of an internal iPhone mic doesn’t really cut the mustard compared to this fantastic mic.

  1004. Ross Varrette

Hi First reason I think I would be a good candidate for the Apogee MiC 96k is April 17 is my birthday and I’ll be turning 23, Second I play for a church called the Rock Family Worship Center, Third am in the beginning stages of recording and could use the mic for vocals and acoustic instrumentation. http://www.facebook.com/rossvarrette you can check my history 4/17 really is my birthday and my soundcloud.com/rossvarrette to hear some of my older stuff. Thanks :)

  1005. Juliet Wong

    Hi Grimy Goods!
Always love your posts and music coverage. This mic would give me the ability to record and release quality recordings to help interested folks follow my creative process. I’ve been told the mic I’m using at home is too bright for my voice. I need something better than what I got at Best Buy years ago and am focusing on paying off mounds of debt so left to my own devices, I probably wouldn’t get such a wonderful mic for myself. Thanks for such a nice offer and good luck to everyone with their music and projects!
-Anime Wong for the project Surely Lorraine

  1006. Dimitri Piechel

Well, I would really like to win this Apogée Mic because I’m starting to record artists interviews at concerts and events for a local radio and it would be a very great to tool to work with, no doubt. I know well the quality of Apogée products since I’m using the Apogée One in my music studio, so… Mic would come as a perfect addition. Since everyone may have a good reason to win Mic, I’ll know cross fingers in hope to be the winner :-) Peace everyone.

I want to be able to connect and touch people with my music. I want what I write to mean something to someone else. I want people to be able to relate to my songs and find other ways out of the troubles they’re facing through my songs.
Music is a beautiful thing and it’s meant to be shared with others and not only kept to yourself in silence. If you have got something to say music is a great way to get it out and I feel like through music is the only way I can really speak my mind and say what I really feel. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if I never would have discovered music and I wouldn’t have the friends that I have today so it’s a really important part of my life and has been since I was about 6 years old. I remember watching people sing on the TV and thinking that I wanted to be like them and being able to record my music would be a big step on the way to achieving what I’ve for so long have dreamt of.
I would love to win this giveaway, it would really mean a lot to me.

    Hello
I’m a singer/songwriter/producer and my big dream is to make a living out of music. As a student it’s hard to get money so I can’t really afford to buy my own michrophone no matter how much I save.
I wanna be able to someday reach out to people around the world through my music, do gigs, go places and meet people.
I have written over 200 songs and I would love to be able to record them and share them with the world so this microphone would be amazing to win.

  1009. Randy F

My wife makes her living as a voice over artist and this mic and accessories would make her life and mine a million times easier! Happy wife, happy life. Thank you for the consideration, Grimy Goods!

  1010. Victoria Otazo

I got accepted to a music program. I will put this to good use in recording of self and others. please generously give it to me and I will put it to good use. thank you.

    Hi Grimy Goods!
I know I’m entering the day you guys are picking winners of this glorious mic but I figured I’d give it a shot…
PLEASEE PLEASE PLEASE let me win this microphone! Not only do I plan to record music with the microphone, but I also plan to make videos via YouTube because many of my friends think of me as a comedian so I want to get into making vlogs.. I would put this microphone to GREAT use if I had it and if I had the money I really would buy it.. Please let me win this microphone I would love you guys so much. One day, I hope to be big in some way whether it be through my music or through my videos and maybe one day I’ll be on the front page of Grimy Goods! I really got my fingers crossed.. I was planning to enter a few days ago however my internet has been down and I’ve been going through some real life crises but I really do hope that I have some luck today and win this microphone..

Hey Grimy Goods. I’m a solo artist who just loves music. As cliche as that sounds, it’s absolutely true. As a student, money is hard to comeby and so in the free time that I have, these giveaway chances seem like heaven. I have a voice and instrument skills, but do not have a way to show it off through videos and such. Winning this opportunity would be amazing and rewarding. My name is Julia and I want to thank you for holding this opportunity! Thank you again!!

Hi! I’m a really hardworking artist and would be so happy and grateful if I won. Everyday after I come home from school I go straight to my room to write songs and produce music, it’s basically all I do on my freetime ’cause it’s what I love and want to spend the rest of my life with.
I don’t have the money to buy myself a michrophone and if I would save it would take about 3,5 years until I could afford to buy one that isn’t crappy.
This would be an amazing oppartunity for me and my music!

    1) the 3 Day lineup is diluted… it’s 2 days’ worth spread out over 3 days

    2) EVERYONE WHO IS PLAYING THERE HAS ALREADY PLAYED THERE. (i.e., QOTSA, MGMT, etc)

    3) 2 Weekend structure proves that it’s just about the money. It hasn’t been a unique experience for a decade now.

    4) Wristbands? Fuck a wristband. Unless it’s VIP. It’s just a Rock N Roll Swindle.

    5) Everyone who is playing there is also playing here.

    6) Shitty food.

    7) Shitty toilets.

    8) Girls in hippie costumes.

    9) EDM dorks.

    10) Been there, done that.

ENJOY, though… If you’re 18-24, and like participating in mainstream cultural rituals.

  1037. Golnaz Moini (@LivinReflection)

Great list! Austra is awesome live and Blood Orange would be a definite-see for me. Not so good at being able to determine how well known someone is but if I were going to Coachella, I would definitely go check out Laura Mvula and Banks. Sooo many great female vocalists out there right now.

  1038. Ben b

I could REALLY use this mic to record some music and create a sound cloud page. My iPhone isn’t the greatest, but this Apogee mic is! Please help my dreams come true.

I follow Grimy Goods on Twitter and Facebook; I rely on you guys to keep me in the know about awesome shows!! My fav music site—never go away!! Thanks for all your hard work Sandra!

  1062. yoselin ponce

I would like to get to see motorhead and this would be a great time to see them !!!!! thanks

  1063. Joe

It might not be fashionable, but I’ve learned to always have one or two bandanas with me, to cover my face from the dirt. Your lungs will hurt by the end of the weekend if you don’t!

  1064. Sheri

Nope, makes me sad, because I don’t have tix thinking the line-up might be dumb this year and some of my all time favorites are playing eg: The Replacements..Who is dumb now? That would be me :/ Hope everyone going has a wonderful time though:)

  1065. Kyra Huete

I’m helping the production of a Latin@ American cultural theater performance at my university, and this tool will definitely amp up the quality of an already colorful community production :) I am also a singer and aspiring songwriter, for perks and accessibility/distribution! Lovelovelove your site~

  1066. Andrew

Hey Grimy Goods! If you gave me that mic I would use it to start a podcast with me and my dog called To the Paw where we would talk all the issues inflicting dogs today; Ticks, the silent sucker. Mailman, friend or foe? That loud sound outside and what that means for your walk today.

    You know, stuff like that.

    Love
    Andrew

  1067. ajsmth

I have this couple that lives above me somewhere in my small apartment complex that have some real rib-tickling, hysterical and completely annoying fights. Every week. I want to record them and leave said recordings at their door so they can hopefully understand 1) the volume of their arguments and 2) the lack of logic both use while trying to win their arguments. You could be saving two unhappy people from each other.

  1068. Will

This is actually the mic I’ve been wanting to buy but it’s a bit too expensive at the moment. I’m saving for it, but figured if give this contest a try. I hope I win so I can start recording new music. Thanks!

  1069. Celina

Hi Grimy Goods! I’m 17, and one day I aspire to be a singer one day and I think this would be a jump start to what I’m trying to accomplish. I would use this mic to start posting covers on YouTube and on Soundcloud. It’s so convenient to be able to just plug this in into my iPhone and be able to record. I seen this contest announcement and I just had to enter because ya never know… God bless!

  1070. Julio Martinez

Among the many things we need, this mic would be an amazing gift for me and my band. We just formed one month ago! Please help us record music so we can email it to you in the hopes of getting features on Grimy Goods because it’s the only LA blog that matters!

  1071. Tiff

I found about Grimy Goods from a giveaway a few years ago. I love the concert photos, concert calendar and the funny posts. Its unique and definitely more entertaining than most other blogs.

  1072. MIKE TV

I SO NEED THIS MIC! I’ve started my own video business and I find myself often borrowing mics or renting them to produce videos for people. Sometimes they’re interview, sometimes they’re music vides, and I always need a mic!

  1073. Sam

First I’d like to say that I love Grimy Goods! You’re my favorite music blog and check it everyday. I love to sing and fiddle with samples. I think tho mic would be great way for me to begin recording a collection of my experimental music to help me build some online pages to showcase my recordings. Thanks!

  1074. Dennis Asenjo

Hoping to add more features to a music site I run http://www.SonicAmbulance.com. The shotgun mic I have doesn’t help create the product I’m hoping to present.
    Wanting to start:
    – Video album reviews
    – Band Interviews
    – Weekly Podcasts – exposing touring acts and an updated concert calendar, and commentary on the live music experience.
This Apogee MiC 96k would be perfect for interviewing bands even in a spur of the moment, side of the venue set up.
    Cheers!

  1075. Diana Enriquez

Happy birthday GG! I have been with you guys since 2011. I’ve started reading because of the amazing giveaways. I’ve won a good amount of tickets from you guys and I’m very greatful. Not just grateful for winning but for the opportunity to see live music here in LA. I’ve been to all types of shows because of GG from country, indie, and hip hop. I’ve loved them all and my appreciation for different types of music grew way beyond my barriers. I check GG every week and follow and get notified on Twitter. I check what’s hot and what’s not so I don’t look like a dork and I never miss out on concerts thanks to the weekly show list.Thank you GG and keep on being awesome.

  1076. Jeremy Favis

I somehow got turned on to your giveaways via Facebook, and since then I’ve enjoyed reading about all the shows you guys have reviewed and the ditties about the scene as we know it. Great reading about your roots and how the site came to be too! I love music, especially live, and your site and FB posts keep me up to date on the latest shows. Cheers to many more years of Grimy Goods!

This mic would help me and my friends immensely! I’m inspired by you Grimy Goods! Happy 6 year anniversary by the way! Please help out another girl with a dream.

  1081. Aaron Larson

I ran into Grimy when doing some music blog/L.a. music searching online. I absolutely love how it has a “non corporate” feel, and seems like its being run by a true music fan/friend I Would have. It’s a simplistic site that has great integrated knowledge and quick reference to amazing shows in L.a. that I need to know about! I enjoy reading news updated everyday on my phone AND at home as a bookmark always open. (Which is weird!) Happy 6th, here’s to 66 more!

I actually found the goods through a Twitter recommended account to follow, and damn I’m glad that I did. The concert calendar is legit and the contributions never let me down. And lately I’ve found the grimy hikes very inspiring! Congrats on the 6 year run!

  1089. Jeffrey Ruiz

Grimy goods is very honest, thats probably the one big thing that sets it apart. I feel like the people who write are just genuinly real. It doesnt feel stiff and mass produced. If that makes sense haha. I first heard about GG when i won free tickets to go see hatebreed at the Fox Theatre. From then on I was hooked, awesome people at this site for sure!

  1090. Madeline

I love Grimy Goods because you guys support the local LA music scene as well as the bigger, mainstream bands. I hear about so much new great music thanks to you guys! Y’all rock.

  1091. Anthony Gonzzalez

Hey Grimy Goods! I’m in a band called from Pomona called The Brewsters, and we record a ton of music and share it all the time. You can check it out here: http://m.soundcloud.com/anthony-gonzzalez . We try and put out as much music as frequently as we can. We’re currently recording our first tape in my garage.

This mic looks really cool and would be perfect for recording or taking to our shows for recording live albums. It’s way more portable and convenient than taking any conventional gear to record with.

Anyways, thanks for always having the best contests. I got to see Ray Davies thanks to you!

  1092. Sarina

Sandy/Grimy Goods, this blog has been SUCH A HUGE inspiration to me to follow my dreams, hustle and make this happen! I’m also a Latina and I love that you’re doing big things. It’s truly an inspiration. I hope one day to have my own fashion line. I LOVE that you blend fashion with music and I love all the amazing photos your team shoots. Keep up the great work!

  1093. KEN

I heard about the Grimy a couple years ago from a friend. To this day it’s still the only LA music blog I care for. I love your tone and you truly have an ear for really amazing new bands. And I love that you guys lean towards punk and garage rock.

  1094. John Paz

Sandra. I’ve been such an avid reader since early 2011. I stumbled on to your blog somehow on Facebook. After reading articles and reviews for hours, I knew that this was gonna be local music blog for sure. Its funny, I just started an online class about 2 weeks ago at PCC and for our Introductions, we had to submit 2 links that describe us, and you were my first link.

Not only have you had a great blog but you’ve shown me so many new bands with your contests. I’ve won a couple of contests here and can 100% say you are the reason why I have new favorite bands and artists. (Dan Deacon and Austra).

Happy Birthday Grimy Goods! You’ve been there for me and I’m sure for everyone here in LA.

  1095. Golnaz Moini (@LivinReflection)

Happy Anniversary GG! I am constantly in awe of how you have made a living out of your passion for music, Sandra. It truly is inspiring and thanks for all the music recommendations. I came to GG to support YOU but I stayed because, well, frankly, I stayed because of the lack of total pretentiousness and bullshit usually associated with music blogs. Keep it up girl!

  1096. Janelle

I discovered you through your giveaways! I also have a PR background that did not prosper the way I had intended. I do some music blogging because I will always love live music first and I attend shows as often as possible. I write concert dates in my planner as if I already have tickets and I would love to be a contributor on your site! Great work and congratulations on how far you have come.

  1097. Johnny S.

I heard about grimy goods through your instagram. I saw an owner of a skate company (who I follow) like one of your selfies and I thought you were hot. Guilty! But then I saw that your run a rad blog and have some impeccable taste in punk and garage. Been a fan since.

  1098. Tinya T

I first hear about Grimy Goods at one of your shows at The Echo. GG is my go to sources for all the best concert announcements and new hot band alerts. Your ears for breaking bands are like psychic! I also love the fashion stuff and funny articles.

  1099. Rosalva Rodriguez

Grimy Goods is my go to music source. I was first hooked on the Hot vs. Not photos of Coachella fashions and then I was surprise that this music blog also had that raw energy I loved from Vice. I was like ding ding!!! I scored a great music source: show reviews, photos, listing of up and coming shows and bands. Great overall social media presence and updates. I congratulate you in your successful music lifestyle blog you have provided for all of us. Gracias. 9:)

  1100. Irene Lomeli

I started when I was looking up new music I would always end up here somehow for things and I figured I’d actual become more direct and come to you first. Best decision of my life haha I know when and where my favorite bands are going to be and I find new music through you all the time. I love that every social media output you have is personal yet informative. I love it and I will always be a Grimy Goods fan !

  1101. Khristian

Started reading the show reviews by Emily when her and I joined the same music group on Facebook and became friends. I love it of course for the contests. But also because of the concert calendar cuz it posts free shows and recommended shows. Happy birthday.

  1102. Kristen Coop

Thank you for all that you have done in 6 years! I love Grimy Goods for the concert reminders and show reviews. Keep up the good work!

  1103. Kristine Gordon

Congratulations on six stellar years, dear friend! And here is to many more marvelous years. XO I have been a fan since the fifth grade. :) And I know GG will still be going strong even into Golden Girl years.

    Kristang

  1104. James Lopez

One thing I love about Grimy Goods is Grimy’s top notch music recommendations! Whether the post is simply sharing an amazing album, or if its about the best LA shows of the week, Grimy always helps me make better use of my time. I’m a more recent reader, and didn’t discover this platform until last year’s Jubilee Fest when they shared your guys’ photos! Congrats on 6 years Grimy! (★^O^★)

  1105. Clemente Espejo

What I love about Grimmy Goods is all the new music you introduce us to, the awesome concert reminders and of course the contest you guys have all year long.
I was reading a blog about new music a few years back and the person had posted a link to winning free tickets to see a show and ever since then I became an instant fan, I then told my friends about you guys and they ALL follow you now.

    Happy six years.

  1106. Richard Mora

I first clicked on grimy goods for a contest giveaway and am forever grateful for the blogs giveaways and photographs, etc…! Wish you guys many blessings and years. B-)

  1107. Caleb

    Congrats on 6 years!
I’ve started a couple blogs that are floating around in the internet somewhere. Hopefully nobody will ever see them. Oh the shame!

A friend of mine on Facebook actually gave you guys a shout out for being awesome so I started visiting, then following you on FB and Twitter.
I’ve won some great stuff from you, had some funny twitter convos, and I try to do as my friend Andrew did and rec your blog to my peeps.
It’s a good thing you do and I’m glad you get to keep doing what you love. It’s pretty inspiring to the rest of us out there chasing out dreams!

  1108. KC Douglas

I discovered Grimy Goods back in 2009 when I joined Twitter and began searching out show news. GG became one of my main go-to sources for live music news, reviews, and updates. Also, sincerely thankful to have won an occasional giveaway. :) What I’m come to love and appreciate more over the past 4-5 years is how funny and endearing both the blog and twitter feed is. You tell it like it is, what you like and don’t like, on a wide variety of topics spanning music, culture, fashion, and everyday life in between. It’s a lot more entertaining of a follow than just standard press releases that get churned out by lots of other sources. Personality shines through and I think music fans and anybody in general is drawn to that. Congrats on 6 years and here’s to many more!

  1109. Steve Keyes

Not going to lie. I originally came for the contests but stayed for the great articles and indispensable weekly show lists! Love you guys, here’s to the next six!

Does anyone know if John legend will only be singing Marvin Gaye’s songs? Or will he also be performing his as well?

  1140. Aileen aka aye_lean

My heart is heavy. Yesterday was a bittersweet day for me as I celebrated my 30th. I broke down thinking about Reggae Pops being called above the clouds on my birthday. I invited him to my 30nera (which is happening next Saturday) He said he would be there. I was excited to dance with him. The first time I seen him I was like look at this old man getting down. After seeing him I said I want to grow up to be just like him. He will be missed but never forgotten. Thank you Reggae Pops for sharing your smile, dance moves and love with all of us!

  1144. Madeline

Obsessed with the Hallowed Ground Ring. So pretty but just witchy enough to give a little edge.

  1145. Sandy

@Rod — Thanks for the great comment! A couple things: Trans Euro Express / Trans Europe Express; tomato / Tomato. I’m very well aware that Kraftwerk had three albums before Autobahn. Perhaps you did not read my review correctly. This sentence, in reference to the greatness of Autobahn clearly states it: “but to see Kraftwerk’s progression through the six ground-breaking studio albums that proceeded.” Also, Kraftwerk had 10 studio albums (as my review points out), not 11. The Mix was a remix album. Thanks, again!

  1146. Rod Stasick

Thanks for the great review! A couple of things: the album is Trans Europe Express and they have 11 studio albums out. There were three before Autobahn. I’m soooo with you on the stupid late people, but also once people arrive, please stay in your seats! There’s nothing more annoying than people getting up and down from their seats and stepping in front of you going back and forth while you’re trying to enjoy something rarely seen. Thanks again!

  1147. Shelly

Here’s the thing, I missed Warpaint idk how many times, most recently at the el Rey due to it selling out and bleah. As for Nick Cave, I’ve also missed seeing him countless times, and it seems like I could totally kill two major seagulls with one arrow. Not to mention Warpaint gives me butterflies. PICK ME!! :D

  1148. Joanna

As I just commented on FB – This man had more spirit and spunk than most people I’ve met all put together. You will be missed, Pops.. for you sure did understand what it meant to be enthusiastically ALIVE. I hope to be inspired by your example till the day the sun eventually sets on my life as well.

  1149. Gretchen R

Jessica’s work is an expression of the beauty that comes from a truly beautiful soul. I’ve loved the hallowed ground ring for years and the rest of the collection holds all the same wonder.

I’d love to see Nick Cave again.I may be the longest standing fan around here. June will mark 30 years since my first show (opening for the Cramps at Perkin’s Palace in Pasadena). It seems like half the places I’ve seen him play aren’t even around anymore such as the Velodrome in Carson, the Variety Arts Center downtown (still standing across from Staples Center, but long closed), and Club Lhasa where I saw him and Rollins do spoken word.

  1163. Cole Scott

I wanna go so bad, Gorilla biscuits has been one of my favorite bands since I was a little kid like 8, I remember they wild always keep my mood high!! My girlfriend loves Tech N9Ne is my girlfriends favorite rapper so she would flip if we saw this!! We’ve been going through tough times since Feb and this would shed some light on us!! Hope we win!!

  1164. Randolph Mills

Because Warpaint gives me millions of tiny boners simultaneously and Murder Ballads is the album I actually use to soundtrack all my murders

  1165. Sydney Helen

I want to win these tickets because I am a HHUUUUUUUGGGEEEE fan of Nick Cave and Warpaint! And, the only time I saw Nick Cave was at Coachella last year and I was surrounded by a huge amount of the lamest people on the planet! Watch any video from that show and you’ll understand what I’m talking about. I would love to get to see him up close because he is the definition of a ROCK STAR and I’d love to see him play while being surrounded by other people that appreciate real music. Please please please please!!

  1166. Bertha Elizarraras

I’ve been missing Nick Cave in several cities while visting in them, I’d be awesome to see them in my hometown!

First, because Murder Ballads is not simply an album. It’s an action. That might occur if I don’t win the ticket… Second, because I am only relying on my looks (fading), my talent (questionable) and my charm (undeniable) and this little gesture would be a flame in the winds of a fickle fate… which if held in the right way would allow me to light your cigarette.

  1296. Valentina

Jason – I agree with all your suggestions except “not here for a hookup.” Because so many guys on there are, and I’d rather eliminate them quickly, I felt I HAD to put that in my profile. And yes, if I met a guy in a bar I’d tell them the same thing, working it into the conversation somehow so he understands who I am and what I want.

Luce – Yep. Pretty much very similar things for women as well. But I’m not searching women, so I can’t write an article about that.

yes, it all seems such common sense. Pretend you’re sitting in front of someone at a bar. I often have the discussion about why Tinder is better/worse then say, OKC – I like Tinder because you have a limited amount of text to display your personality. Blank profiles are lame and lazy. Also, believe it or not similar interests are a big deal – so take some time to like some bands or restaurants or bars on FB…

And, Marilyn Monroe “…you don’t deserve me at my best” and “living the dream” and “not here to hookup” should be put on a list of phrases not permitted haha. Seriously though, if someone asked you what you’re doing in (LA) – would you respond with any of those statements?

One of my best friends sees Nick Cave on every single tour and tells me he’s the best performer alive and I’ve never seen him and I want to go with this friend to find out why he’s so great.

  1314. Christopher Modisette

I’m not going to lie and say I haven’t seen Nick before, but the one and only time was at Coachella this past year and the sandstorm made it impossible really really get into the show!!! A chance to see him in a proper venue would be a dream come true!!!

  1315. Jason

stop the “from above” selfies. don’t make me figure out which one you are in a group of smiling girls with sunglasses on…one body pic is appropriate…and appreciated…

    I’d like tickets because:

I was locked in a closet for most of my childhood by my deranged stepfather.
I spent years sleeping in my own waste, shivering, and being underfed.

He started playing The Birthday Party through the door when I was 11. Later,
when I started having deeper thoughts and experiencing happiness derived
from newspapers and the sound of television just outside, he’d play Nick Cave.

Whenever I hear Nick Cave sing, I have a body memory and I feel in touch with
what is good in this world.

  1320. Ed Aramburo

I would love to see Nick Cave. Please pick me! I’ve never won any contest of yours!

  1321. steff Garletts

The love of me life left me and only Nick Cave can heal my wounds. I’m ready to go out and embrace the power of his music. Time to get lost in the sounds and words and find another love to stop the bleeding. I have managed to miss his live performances and I don’t wanna miss out on any more life! This will be my birthday party, my rebirth!

  1322. Steve Seim

Thought 1: Die hard fan, that is I, needs ticket badly. Thought 2: Would like to win and this my desperate attempt to try

  1323. Crystal Gutierrez

I want to win these tickets to see Warpaint❤️ It’ll be the greatest birthday gift to finally see one of my favorite bands

  1324. Dani Evans

I need to go to this show because these are literally my two favorite bands in the world and I never thought I’d see the day they played a show together. I literally cried the moment I saw the flyer. It would mean the world to me.

  1325. Tiffany L

I’m a recent Nick Cave fan thanks to Neko Case but I love the raw blues rock feel to his music. Plus Warpaint is a LA-based band I’ve watched from the beginning. It’d be an amazing show to attend. Pick me! (:

I really need these tickets! These two bands are right at the top of my favorites list. The Flatliners come around often, and I see them when they do, but when Propagandhi announced they were going on tour, I couldn’t believe it. I’ve never seen them live before, so I freaked out. These two bands together is guaranteed to be a show that will never be forgotten.
