Well hey there, My name’s Kevin, I record music using the moniker, Laurel Blossom.

I actually record everything myself in my bedroom a la Kevin Parker (Tame Impala).

I’d love a Apogee MiC 96k to record some kickass vocals, currently none of my songs have vocals because I’m in dire need of a solid vocal microphone! I’ve been told my music sounds like something Drake would sing over, and I feel I deserve a chance to have my voice heard before people say that, although it’s a nice compliment!

I hope to record soon so people can start listening to my music, and I have high hopes of playing festivals and shows around the world!
I’m infatuated with the glamour of pop music.

you can check out my music here:)

    I have more coming soon!!

Hi, I’m an Italian voice talent and I usually work in my home studio with a ONE and I love it. I also often travel through Italy and Europe, so MIC 96k combined with my iPad and Garage Band would be perfect to have a real globe-trotting-studio. I would love to be an Apogee testimonial as I’m 100% satisfied and enthusiast!

I record and release my own quirky musical theater songs, I am passionate about doing this. I am equally passionate about my day job as a special education teacher in the local public school system. A microphone of this caliber, is something that I could not afford. With it, I will be better able to satisfy my artistic goals. Professional quality microphones make a major difference toward cleaning up the audio experience. I would not take a prize like this for granted.
My one-man-band is called Hot Liquids Burn Like Fire, here is one of my recent songs: http://hotliquidsburnlikefire.bandcamp.com/track/this-is-nothing-new

I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for the consideration.

Grimy Goods, I need this mic package! I tell stories for NPR shows and make films with experimental sound elements, and I want to use this mic to record and produce my own podcasts, and also to record my music and sound elements for scoring films. This would make my life so much easier, because I wouldn’t have to pull favors to borrow various devices from friends, and I could do it all on my own. Please, please, please! I will tell the world how amazing Apogee is! http://awolfeswolfworld.wordpress.com

I am a morning radio personality. We are trending toward recording live breaks when we are on location, and emailing to the station. Quality is of utmost importance. Your digital gear is so awesome it would make it sound like we traveled with a complete studio! I am also a guitarist and could really use the professional interface for my iPad! Everything would fit in a backpack which I love! Very impressed with your online demos and videos. I want it! Bad!

Hi my name is Brandon Cobb from Chicago or as it’s called “Chi-Raq” for the killings of our youth.

I have a voice of peace and righteousness on the hip-hop side of this city. I want to do a album-

documentary on kickstarter of positive change from negativity in Chicago’s youth.

The #ApogeeMiC96K will lead the revolution along side of my iPhone 5s in making history…

Recording my music and going mobile into the streets of Chicago allowing the city to express itself through the #APOGEEMiC96K.

Hi guys! I would love to win this mic for my home recordings which are primarily made up of acoustic guitar and vocals recorded on a Mac using Garageband and Logic Pro. I have heard great things about Apogee mics and I think winning this mic would be a great introduction to the company. An example of my music is here: http://youtu.be/f93FwHcZqXQ

    Thank you for the opportunity!

  38. Eldon Powles

My wife is amazing at writing kids stories and i have nagged and nagged her to create interactive kids books for the iPad. My 4 year old girl has a real raspy, studio voice. If you were so kind enough to give me the mic to record my 4 year old girl record the voice over for my wives ebooks then perhaps this will drive her to start them. As the quality of an internal iPhone mic doesn’t really cut the mustard compared to this fantastic mic.

  39. Ross Varrette

Hi First reason I think I would be a good candidate for the Apogee MiC 96k is April 17 is my birthday and I’ll be turning 23, Second I play for a church called the Rock Family Worship Center, Third am in the beginning stages of recording and could use the mic for vocals and acoustic instrumentation. http://www.facebook.com/rossvarrette you can check my history 4/17 really is my birthday and my soundcloud.com/rossvarrette to hear some of my older stuff. Thanks :)

  40. Juliet Wong

    Hi Grimy Goods!
Always love your posts and music coverage. This mic would give me the ability to record and release quality recordings to help interested folks follow my creative process. I’ve been told the mic I’m using at home is too bright for my voice. I need something better than what I got at Best Buy years ago and am focusing on paying off mounds of debt so left to my own devices, I probably wouldn’t get such a wonderful mic for myself. Thanks for such a nice offer and good luck to everyone with their music and projects!

  41. Dimitri Piechel

Well, I would really like to win this Apogée Mic because I’m starting to record artists interviews at concerts and events for a local radio and it would be a very great to tool to work with, no doubt. I know well the quality of Apogée products since I’m using the Apogée One in my music studio, so… Mic would come as a perfect addition. Since everyone may have a good reason to win Mic, I’ll know cross fingers in hope to be the winner :-) Peace everyone.

  42. Cherry

I’m a singer and songwriter and would really love to get my music recorded.
I spend all of my free time singing and writing songs in my bedroom and have written over 100 songs so far.
I want to be able to connect and touch people with my music. I want what I write to mean something to someone else. I want people to be able to relate to my songs and find other ways out of the troubles they’re facing through my songs.
Music is a beautiful thing and it’s meant to be shared with others and not only kept to yourself in silence. If you have got something to say music is a great way to get it out and I feel like through music is the only way I can really speak my mind and say what I really feel. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if I never would have discovered music and I wouldn’t have the friends that I have today so it’s a really important part of my life and has been since I was about 6 years old. I remember watching people sing on the TV and thinking that I wanted to be like them and being able to record my music would be a big step on the way to achieving what I’ve for so long have dreamt of.
I would love to win this giveaway, it would really mean a lot to me.

  43. Alva

    Hello
I’m a singer/songwriter/producer and my big dream is to make a living out of music. As a student it’s hard to get money so I can’t really afford to buy my own michrophone no matter how much I save.
I wanna be able to someday reach out to people around the world through my music, do gigs, go places and meet people.
I have written over 200 songs and I would love to be able to record them and share them with the world so this microphone would be amazing to win.

  44. Randy F

My wife makes her living as a voice over artist and this mic and accessories would make her life and mine a million times easier! Happy wife, happy life. Thank you for the consideration, Grimy Goods!

    Hi Grimy Goods!
I know I’m entering the day you guys are picking winners of this glorious mic but I figured I’d give it a shot…
PLEASEE PLEASE PLEASE let me win this microphone! I am a rapper on the come up currently working on a new mixtape and I can’t do much with the not so good microphone that I have now… I’m currently on a budget and am using a cheapy 20$ microphone.. Please help me live my dreams, I’m a 19-year-old aspiring rapper hoping to make his dreams come true and a microphone is definitely what I need to jump start the blueprint I got going…
Not only do I plan to record music with the microphone, but I also plan to make videos via YouTube because many of my friends think of me as a comedian so I want to get into making vlogs.. I would put this microphone to GREAT use if I had it and if I had the money I really would buy it.. Please let me win this microphone I would love you guys so much. One day, I hope to be big in some way whether it be through my music or through my videos and maybe one day I’ll be on the front page of Grimy Goods! I really got my fingers crossed.. I was planning to enter a few days ago however my internet has been down and I’ve been going through some real life crises but I really do hope that I have some luck today and win this microphone..
Thank you guys for all the opportunities you guys provide
I can be reached via twitter at @_BDOC or my email brandondoc04@gmail.com

Hey Grimy Goods. I’m a solo artist who just loves music. As cliche as that sounds, it’s absolutely true. As a student, money is hard to comeby and so in the free time that I have, these giveaway chances seem like heaven. I have a voice and instrument skills, but do not have a way to show it off through videos and such. Winning this opportunity would be amazing and rewarding. My name is Julia and I want to thank you for holding this opportunity! Thank you again!!

Hi! I’m a really hardworking artist and would be so happy and grateful if I won. Everyday after I come home from school I go straight to my room to write songs and produce music, it’s basically all I do on my freetime ’cause it’s what I love and want to spend the rest of my life with.
I don’t have the money to buy myself a michrophone and if I would save it would take about 3,5 years until I could afford to buy one that isn’t crappy.
This would be an amazing oppartunity for me and my music!

    1) the 3 Day lineup is diluted… it’s 2 days’ worth spread out over 3 days

    2) EVERYONE WHO IS PLAYING THERE HAS ALREADY PLAYED THERE. (i.e., QOTSA, MGMT, etc)

    3) 2 Weekend structure proves that it’s just about the money. It hasn’t been a unique experience for a decade now.

    4) Wristbands? Fuck a wristband. Unless it’s VIP. It’s just a Rock N Roll Swindle.

    5) Everyone who is playing there is also playing here.

    6) Shitty food.

    7) Shitty toilets.

    8) Girls in hippie costumes.

    9) EDM dorks.

    10) Been there, done that.

ENJOY, though… If you’re 18-24, and like participating in mainstream cultural rituals.

  72. Golnaz Moini (@LivinReflection)

Great list! Austra is awesome live and Blood Orange would be a definite-see for me. Not so good at being able to determine how well known someone is but if I were going to Coachella, I would definitely go check out Laura Mvula and Banks. Sooo many great female vocalists out there right now.

  73. Ben b

I could REALLY use this mic to record some music and create a sound cloud page. My iPhone isn’t the greatest, but this Apogee mic is! Please help my dreams come true.

  74. jenny

I follow Grimy Goods on Twitter and Facebook; I rely on you guys to keep me in the know about awesome shows!! My fav music site—never go away!! Thanks for all your hard work Sandra!

  97. yoselin ponce

I would like to get to see motorhead and this would be a great time to see them !!!!! thanks

  98. Joe

It might not be fashionable, but I’ve learned to always have one or two bandanas with me, to cover my face from the dirt. Your lungs will hurt by the end of the weekend if you don’t!

  99. Sheri

Nope, makes me sad, because I don’t have tix thinking the line-up might be dumb this year and some of my all time favorites are playing eg: The Replacements..Who is dumb now? That would be me :/ Hope everyone going has a wonderful time though:)

  100. Kyra Huete

I’m helping the production of a Latin@ American cultural theater performance at my university, and this tool will definitely amp up the quality of an already colorful community production :) I am also a singer and aspiring songwriter, for perks and accessibility/distribution! Lovelovelove your site~

  101. Andrew

Hey Grimy Goods! If you gave me that mic I would use it to start a podcast with me and my dog called To the Paw where we would talk all the issues inflicting dogs today; Ticks, the silent sucker. Mailman, friend or foe? That loud sound outside and what that means for your walk today.

    You know, stuff like that.

    Love
    Andrew

  102. ajsmth

I have this couple that lives above me somewhere in my small apartment complex that have some real rib-tickling, hysterical and completely annoying fights. Every week. I want to record them and leave said recordings at their door so they can hopefully understand 1) the volume of their arguments and 2) the lack of logic both use while trying to win their arguments. You could be saving two unhappy people from each other.

  103. Will

This is actually the mic I’ve been wanting to buy but it’s a bit too expensive at the moment. I’m saving for it, but figured if give this contest a try. I hope I win so I can start recording new music. Thanks!

  104. Celina

Hi Grimy Goods! I’m 17, and one day I aspire to be a singer one day and I think this would be a jump start to what I’m trying to accomplish. I would use this mic to start posting covers on YouTube and on Soundcloud. It’s so convenient to be able to just plug this in into my iPhone and be able to record. I seen this contest announcement and I just had to enter because ya never know… God bless!

  105. Julio Martinez

Among the many things we need, this mic would be an amazing gift for me and my band. We just formed one month ago! Please help us record music so we can email it to you in the hopes of getting features on Grimy Goods because it’s the only LA blog that matters!

  106. Tiff

I found about Grimy Goods from a giveaway a few years ago. I love the concert photos, concert calendar and the funny posts. Its unique and definitely more entertaining than most other blogs.

  107. MIKE TV

I SO NEED THIS MIC! I’ve started my own video business and I find myself often borrowing mics or renting them to produce videos for people. Sometimes they’re interview, sometimes they’re music vides, and I always need a mic!

  108. Sam

First I’d like to say that I love Grimy Goods! You’re my favorite music blog and check it everyday. I love to sing and fiddle with samples. I think tho mic would be great way for me to begin recording a collection of my experimental music to help me build some online pages to showcase my recordings. Thanks!

  109. Dennis Asenjo

Hoping to add more features to a music site I run http://www.SonicAmbulance.com. The shotgun mic I have doesn’t help create the product I’m hoping to present.
    Wanting to start:
    - Video album reviews
    - Band Interviews
    - Weekly Podcasts – exposing touring acts and an updated concert calendar, and commentary on the live music experience.
This Apogee MiC 96k would be perfect for interviewing bands even in a spur of the moment, side of the venue set up.
    Cheers!

  110. Diana Enriquez

Happy birthday GG! I have been with you guys since 2011. I’ve started reading because of the amazing giveaways. I’ve won a good amount of tickets from you guys and I’m very greatful. Not just grateful for winning but for the opportunity to see live music here in LA. I’ve been to all types of shows because of GG from country, indie, and hip hop. I’ve loved them all and my appreciation for different types of music grew way beyond my barriers. I check GG every week and follow and get notified on Twitter. I check what’s hot and what’s not so I don’t look like a dork and I never miss out on concerts thanks to the weekly show list.Thank you GG and keep on being awesome.

  111. Jeremy Favis

I somehow got turned on to your giveaways via Facebook, and since then I’ve enjoyed reading about all the shows you guys have reviewed and the ditties about the scene as we know it. Great reading about your roots and how the site came to be too! I love music, especially live, and your site and FB posts keep me up to date on the latest shows. Cheers to many more years of Grimy Goods!

I ran into Grimy when doing some music blog/L.a. music searching online. I absolutely love how it has a “non corporate” feel, and seems like its being run by a true music fan/friend I Would have. It’s a simplistic site that has great integrated knowledge and quick reference to amazing shows in L.a. that I need to know about! I enjoy reading news updated everyday on my phone AND at home as a bookmark always open. (Which is weird!) Happy 6th, here’s to 66 more!

  124. Jeffrey Ruiz

Grimy goods is very honest, thats probably the one big thing that sets it apart. I feel like the people who write are just genuinly real. It doesnt feel stiff and mass produced. If that makes sense haha. I first heard about GG when i won free tickets to go see hatebreed at the Fox Theatre. From then on I was hooked, awesome people at this site for sure!

  125. Madeline

I love Grimy Goods because you guys support the local LA music scene as well as the bigger, mainstream bands. I hear about so much new great music thanks to you guys! Y’all rock.

  126. Anthony Gonzzalez

Hey Grimy Goods! I’m in a band called from Pomona called The Brewsters, and we record a ton of music and share it all the time. You can check it out here: http://m.soundcloud.com/anthony-gonzzalez . We try and put out as much music as frequently as we can. We’re currently recording our first tape in my garage.

This mic looks really cool and would be perfect for recording or taking to our shows for recording live albums. It’s way more portable and convenient than taking any conventional gear to record with.

Anyways, thanks for always having the best contests. I got to see Ray Davies thanks to you!

  127. Sarina

Sandy/Grimy Goods, this blog has been SUCH A HUGE inspiration to me to follow my dreams, hustle and make this happen! I’m also a Latina and I love that you’re doing big things. It’s truly an inspiration. I hope one day to have my own fashion line. I LOVE that you blend fashion with music and I love all the amazing photos your team shoots. Keep up the great work!

  128. KEN

I heard about the Grimy a couple years ago from a friend. To this day it’s still the only LA music blog I care for. I love your tone and you truly have an ear for really amazing new bands. And I love that you guys lean towards punk and garage rock.

  129. John Paz

Sandra. I’ve been such an avid reader since early 2011. I stumbled on to your blog somehow on Facebook. After reading articles and reviews for hours, I knew that this was gonna be local music blog for sure. Its funny, I just started an online class about 2 weeks ago at PCC and for our Introductions, we had to submit 2 links that describe us, and you were my first link.

Not only have you had a great blog but you’ve shown me so many new bands with your contests. I’ve won a couple of contests here and can 100% say you are the reason why I have new favorite bands and artists. (Dan Deacon and Austra).

Happy Birthday Grimy Goods! You’ve been there for me and I’m sure for everyone here in LA.

  130. Golnaz Moini (@LivinReflection)

Happy Anniversary GG! I am constantly in awe of how you have made a living out of your passion for music, Sandra. It truly is inspiring and thanks for all the music recommendations. I came to GG to support YOU but I stayed because, well, frankly, I stayed because of the lack of total pretentiousness and bullshit usually associated with music blogs. Keep it up girl!

I discovered you through your giveaways! I also have a PR background that did not prosper the way I had intended. I do some music blogging because I will always love live music first and I attend shows as often as possible. I write concert dates in my planner as if I already have tickets and I would love to be a contributor on your site! Great work and congratulations on how far you have come.

  132. Johnny S.

I heard about grimy goods through your instagram. I saw an owner of a skate company (who I follow) like one of your selfies and I thought you were hot. Guilty! But then I saw that your run a rad blog and have some impeccable taste in punk and garage. Been a fan since.

  133. Tinya T

I first hear about Grimy Goods at one of your shows at The Echo. GG is my go to sources for all the best concert announcements and new hot band alerts. Your ears for breaking bands are like psychic! I also love the fashion stuff and funny articles.

  134. Rosalva Rodriguez

Grimy Goods is my go to music source. I was first hooked on the Hot vs. Not photos of Coachella fashions and then I was surprise that this music blog also had that raw energy I loved from Vice. I was like ding ding!!! I scored a great music source: show reviews, photos, listing of up and coming shows and bands. Great overall social media presence and updates. I congratulate you in your successful music lifestyle blog you have provided for all of us. Gracias. 9:)

  135. Irene Lomeli

I started when I was looking up new music I would always end up here somehow for things and I figured I’d actual become more direct and come to you first. Best decision of my life haha I know when and where my favorite bands are going to be and I find new music through you all the time. I love that every social media output you have is personal yet informative. I love it and I will always be a Grimy Goods fan !

  136. Khristian

Started reading the show reviews by Emily when her and I joined the same music group on Facebook and became friends. I love it of course for the contests. But also because of the concert calendar cuz it posts free shows and recommended shows. Happy birthday.

  137. Kristen Coop

Thank you for all that you have done in 6 years! I love Grimy Goods for the concert reminders and show reviews. Keep up the good work!

  138. Kristine Gordon

Congratulations on six stellar years, dear friend! And here is to many more marvelous years. XO I have been a fan since the fifth grade. :) And I know GG will still be going strong even into Golden Girl years.

    Kristang

  139. James Lopez

One thing I love about Grimy Goods is Grimy’s top notch music recommendations! Whether the post is simply sharing an amazing album, or if its about the best LA shows of the week, Grimy always helps me make better use of my time. I’m a more recent reader, and didn’t discover this platform until last year’s Jubilee Fest when they shared your guys’ photos! Congrats on 6 years Grimy! (★^O^★)

  140. Clemente Espejo

What I love about Grimmy Goods is all the new music you introduce us to, the awesome concert reminders and of course the contest you guys have all year long.
I was reading a blog about new music a few years back and the person had posted a link to winning free tickets to see a show and ever since then I became an instant fan, I then told my friends about you guys and they ALL follow you now.

    Happy six years.

  141. Richard Mora

I first clicked on grimy goods for a contest giveaway and am forever grateful for the blogs giveaways and photographs, etc…! Wish you guys many blessings and years. B-)

  142. Caleb

    Congrats on 6 years!
I’ve started a couple blogs that are floating around in the internet somewhere. Hopefully nobody will ever see them. Oh the shame!

A friend of mine on Facebook actually gave you guys a shout out for being awesome so I started visiting, then following you on FB and Twitter.
I’ve won some great stuff from you, had some funny twitter convos, and I try to do as my friend Andrew did and rec your blog to my peeps.
It’s a good thing you do and I’m glad you get to keep doing what you love. It’s pretty inspiring to the rest of us out there chasing out dreams!

  143. KC Douglas

I discovered Grimy Goods back in 2009 when I joined Twitter and began searching out show news. GG became one of my main go-to sources for live music news, reviews, and updates. Also, sincerely thankful to have won an occasional giveaway. :) What I’m come to love and appreciate more over the past 4-5 years is how funny and endearing both the blog and twitter feed is. You tell it like it is, what you like and don’t like, on a wide variety of topics spanning music, culture, fashion, and everyday life in between. It’s a lot more entertaining of a follow than just standard press releases that get churned out by lots of other sources. Personality shines through and I think music fans and anybody in general is drawn to that. Congrats on 6 years and here’s to many more!

  144. Steve Keyes

Not going to lie. I originally came for the contests but stayed for the great articles and indispensable weekly show lists! Love you guys, here’s to the next six!

  145. brithael

I’m sure I’m not alone in saying I’m glad _____ Public Relations canned you too :) thanks for the great work

  146. Karla

Dafuq.. CHVRCHES/Austra 4/14, Little Dragon, and no word regarding Future Islands either? Just busting balls since those will def. be among April’s top 10 live shows.

  147. Sandy

@Josh — you sure about that? Just checked it on three different browsers including mobile and it’s working just fine.

  156. Kylie

@Al – Just read your comment. Really?! Quit being so uptight! All of my gay friends always use the word TRANNY. And us girls always refer to each other as trannys when we we have too much make up on.

  175. Aileen aka aye_lean

My heart is heavy. Yesterday was a bittersweet day for me as I celebrated my 30th. I broke down thinking about Reggae Pops being called above the clouds on my birthday. I invited him to my 30nera (which is happening next Saturday) He said he would be there. I was excited to dance with him. The first time I seen him I was like look at this old man getting down. After seeing him I said I want to grow up to be just like him. He will be missed but never forgotten. Thank you Reggae Pops for sharing your smile, dance moves and love with all of us!

  179. Madeline

Obsessed with the Hallowed Ground Ring. So pretty but just witchy enough to give a little edge.

  180. Sandy

@Rod — Thanks for the great comment! A couple things: Trans Euro Express / Trans Europe Express; tomato / Tomato. I’m very well aware that Kraftwerk had three albums before Autobahn. Perhaps you did not read my review correctly. This sentence, in reference to the greatness of Autobahn clearly states it: “but to see Kraftwerk’s progression through the six ground-breaking studio albums that proceeded.” Also, Kraftwerk had 10 studio albums (as my review points out), not 11. The Mix was a remix album. Thanks, again!

  181. Rod Stasick

Thanks for the great review! A couple of things: the album is Trans Europe Express and they have 11 studio albums out. There were three before Autobahn. I’m soooo with you on the stupid late people, but also once people arrive, please stay in your seats! There’s nothing more annoying than people getting up and down from their seats and stepping in front of you going back and forth while you’re trying to enjoy something rarely seen. Thanks again!

  182. Shelly

Here’s the thing, I missed Warpaint idk how many times, most recently at the el Rey due to it selling out and bleah. As for Nick Cave, I’ve also missed seeing him countless times, and it seems like I could totally kill two major seagulls with one arrow. Not to mention Warpaint gives me butterflies. PICK ME!! :D

  183. Joanna

As I just commented on FB – This man had more spirit and spunk than most people I’ve met all put together. You will be missed, Pops.. for you sure did understand what it meant to be enthusiastically ALIVE. I hope to be inspired by your example till the day the sun eventually sets on my life as well.

  184. Gretchen R

Jessica’s work is an expression of the beauty that comes from a truly beautiful soul. I’ve loved the hallowed ground ring for years and the rest of the collection holds all the same wonder.

I’d love to see Nick Cave again.I may be the longest standing fan around here. June will mark 30 years since my first show (opening for the Cramps at Perkin’s Palace in Pasadena). It seems like half the places I’ve seen him play aren’t even around anymore such as the Velodrome in Carson, the Variety Arts Center downtown (still standing across from Staples Center, but long closed), and Club Lhasa where I saw him and Rollins do spoken word.

  198. Cole Scott

I wanna go so bad, Gorilla biscuits has been one of my favorite bands since I was a little kid like 8, I remember they wild always keep my mood high!! My girlfriend loves Tech N9Ne is my girlfriends favorite rapper so she would flip if we saw this!! We’ve been going through tough times since Feb and this would shed some light on us!! Hope we win!!

  199. Randolph Mills

Because Warpaint gives me millions of tiny boners simultaneously and Murder Ballads is the album I actually use to soundtrack all my murders

  200. Sydney Helen

I want to win these tickets because I am a HHUUUUUUUGGGEEEE fan of Nick Cave and Warpaint! And, the only time I saw Nick Cave was at Coachella last year and I was surrounded by a huge amount of the lamest people on the planet! Watch any video from that show and you’ll understand what I’m talking about. I would love to get to see him up close because he is the definition of a ROCK STAR and I’d love to see him play while being surrounded by other people that appreciate real music. Please please please please!!

  201. Bertha Elizarraras

I’ve been missing Nick Cave in several cities while visting in them, I’d be awesome to see them in my hometown!

i am extremely passionate about music and i also have pretty eclectic. besides my *N SYNC fan girl-dom since 1997, my passion for music stems from classic rock, indie pop, pop punk and hardcore music. in high school, descendents, gorilla biscuits and judge were a few of my favorite bands and although i’ve been attending shows since 2002, i have never seen any of them. please pick me! i will even call out of work :P ^_^

  217. Michael Petrelli

Then I knew everything would be alright because he’s the craziest MFer that’s out there. I would love to go!!!!!!!!!

  305. bernadette gonzales

Winning these tickets would be an awesome score. After all these years I’ve missed the opportunity to see Nick Cave. His music is so haunting and beautiful.

  306. Paul

I want to see if he has more hair than he did when I saw Grinderman play a couple of years ago. I swear he has more hair on the cover for the new album than he did when he played the Bowl years ago. Maybe being in the room w/ him w/ help me age in reverse as well. ;)

To see Nick Cave WITH the Bad Seeds would be the best birthday gift ever! I hardly ever see bands anymore because I’m a broke artist. This would make my year!

  310. Liselotte Marin

I think you guys should pick me to see nick cave because I’ve never seen him live and I’m in love with him and his eyebrows.

  311. Randy Mills

TheLastGreatMan: You should give me the tickets because I genuinely love both bands, never take my phone out during shows, and shut the fuck up whenever there is music being played.

  312. Valeria Leininger

Because an evening of Murder Ballads is exactly what I need!!! Pretty Please!!

i think you should choose me cos you rock and so do i. plus, LOOOVE the Warpaint ladies and didn’t realize they were on the ticket! Nick Cave + Warpaint = HOLY CRAP!!
besides, neither of them are coming to San Diego, so gotta make it worth the drive and a pair of tix would def make up for the hours and gas!

  330. dreux moreland

First, because Murder Ballads is not simply an album. It’s an action. That might occur if I don’t win the ticket… Second, because I am only relying on my looks (fading), my talent (questionable) and my charm (undeniable) and this little gesture would be a flame in the winds of a fickle fate… which if held in the right way would allow me to light your cigarette.

  331. Valentina

Jason – I agree with all your suggestions except “not here for a hookup.” Because so many guys on there are, and I’d rather eliminate them quickly, I felt I HAD to put that in my profile. And yes, if I met a guy in a bar I’d tell them the same thing, working it into the conversation somehow so he understands who I am and what I want.

Luce – Yep. Pretty much very similar things for women as well. But I’m not searching women, so I can’t write an article about that.

Great post. To be fair, girls are guilty of basically all these things too! Posing with another guy is pretty annoying, but another don’t that women tend to do more than men is posing with like 3 other girls in every shot! To me, shows lack of self-confidence, but also, is just plain confusing! Which one are you??

yes, it all seems such common sense. Pretend you’re sitting in front of someone at a bar. I often have the discussion about why Tinder is better/worse then say, OKC – I like Tinder because you have a limited amount of text to display your personality. Blank profiles are lame and lazy. Also, believe it or not similar interests are a big deal – so take some time to like some bands or restaurants or bars on FB…

And, Marilyn Monroe “…you don’t deserve me at my best” and “living the dream” and “not here to hookup” should be put on a list of phrases not permitted haha. Seriously though, if someone asked you what you’re doing in (LA) – would you respond with any of those statements?

  346. Matthew Reimers

Hello…I would love to win a pair of tix for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds because simply put…I have never seen him LIVE! Thank you for your consideration…

  347. Karina Saffi

I have yet to see and experience the wonderfull Nick Cave Live. So I guess I’m still a Nick Cave virgin, this needs to change this July please. Plus Warpaint is honestly my favorite girl band right now. Their music is so ethereal. I’ve seen warpaint once and what better way to see them again plus Nick Cave!!! <3

  348. Jordan Lee

One of my best friends sees Nick Cave on every single tour and tells me he’s the best performer alive and I’ve never seen him and I want to go with this friend to find out why he’s so great.

  349. Christopher Modisette

I’m not going to lie and say I haven’t seen Nick before, but the one and only time was at Coachella this past year and the sandstorm made it impossible really really get into the show!!! A chance to see him in a proper venue would be a dream come true!!!

    I’d like tickets because:

I was locked in a closet for most of my childhood by my deranged stepfather.
I spent years sleeping in my own waste, shivering, and being underfed.

He started playing The Birthday Party through the door when I was 11. Later,
when I started having deeper thoughts and experiencing happiness derived
from newspapers and the sound of television just outside, he’d play Nick Cave.

Whenever I hear Nick Cave sing, I have a body memory and I feel in touch with
what is good in this world.

  355. Ed Aramburo

I would love to see Nick Cave. Please pick me! I’ve never won any contest of yours!

  356. steff Garletts

The love of me life left me and only Nick Cave can heal my wounds. I’m ready to go out and embrace the power of his music. Time to get lost in the sounds and words and find another love to stop the bleeding. I have managed to miss his live performances and I don’t wanna miss out on any more life! This will be my birthday party, my rebirth!

  360. Tiffany L

I’m a recent Nick Cave fan thanks to Neko Case but I love the raw blues rock feel to his music. Plus Warpaint is a LA-based band I’ve watched from the beginning. It’d be an amazing show to attend. Pick me! (:

And who the hell are The Special Guests? I wanna see them play too.

I want to see Allah las Trying to go to as many shows as I can this year and it would be so gnarly if I won! I have been trying to see them forever and can never make it. So this would be so rad!! Good vibezzx xoxo

  588. Miss Mia Wallace (@princessfatimaa)

I would absolutely love to see Nick Waterhouse! He reminds me of a modern Buddy Holly. I wanted to go see him at the Santa Monica pier last year in August when he performed, but I moved in to school that day! I love him! it would be amazing really. and the Allah-lahs too. this would be pretty damn awesome.

  600. Rosa Ocegueda

The band I want to see the most are the Allah-Las followed by Nick Waterhouse. So I am an LA native but have recently moved to San Luis Obispo for school, however, this Saturday would be one of the rare days that i will be back in LA. It would be awwwmazing if I got to see them again!! :D

  601. Elliott Marx

I most certainly want to see Dawes this weekend. Nobody better describes what Los Angeles suburban living is about. Sure it is melancholy, but every story is relative to my life. When asked where I live, am as likely to say San Fernando Valley as I am Los Angeles. Sure would appreciate some tix!

  602. Lennon Lara

I really want to see the Allah-las, the few times they’ve played in LA last year I missed them. There was always a work obligation or something. I’m free this Saturday, so please, please pick me!

I would LOVE to win tickets to see The Growlers at the echo on December 27th, I have been following Los Growlers since 2007 and been living for them ever since!
I was beyond upset when tix sold out and would be eternally grateful for a chance to see them once before the year ends!! It would be the best holiday vacation ever if yall pick me

  630. Jesus F.

I would like to go to any of the 3 nights (27,28, or 29) honestly doesn’t matter to me I just want to see the growlers! They’ve been my favorite band since I was 14 (19 now) and I love their music just as much now as I did then if not more. I don’t really have anything funky to say like a surfing Buddhist cult jacked me, I would just really appreciate it….. like you don’t understand how much I would appreciate it. Also mystic braves are amazing (shout out to lolipop!) In Other words hook ja boi up G.

  631. Larry

Hey guys! Please find it in your kind hearts to help a fellow Grimy muthafugga w/ Growlers tickets for Friday 12/27.. I tried buying them shortly after my friends told me about the show but they were completely sold out. We’re all big fans of their music and have been following them since they started out in Costa Mesa, on top of that our friends in Mystic Braves are opening up for them :( Definitely feeling a little left out since all my friends are going and even planned a holiday party around the show Friday night… SO BUMMED. Help make this Chrimbus miracle possible my dudes, seriously hurting to go to.

    Passionately yours,

  636. Alex

Please Choose me for the Growler’s December 29th show! I’d love to win these tickets as a late Xmas gift for my younger brother who hasn’t had the chance to see them yet because he is under 18. This would be a great opportunity to see one of his favorite bands since it’s an all ages show!

    Dear Santa, err Grimy Goods,

In the spirit of Christmas, you should hook me up with tickets to The Growlers show on December 27th. I am planning on taking a hot chick who LOVES The Growlers (as do I) and what better way to win her over than by wildin out at a sick show together AMIRIGHT? Also, I haven’t been to a LA show since before I left for college and this show is so awesomely placed in my break! So yeah, winning would rule.

    Love, Alex Alarcon

  640. Olivia

I would love to win tickets to see The Growlers because recently I unselfishly (and impulsively) spent $200 dollars on One Direction tickets to surprise my little sister for Christmas.. which left me with no money for myself. Growlers tickets were already sold out when I later tried :( I’ve been dying to see them live. I seriously live for those euphoric moments of hearing your favorite songs being played right in front of you while dancing and having fun. I would love to be able to go to either Friday the 27 show or Saturday the 28th show. (my email has 7 “a”s) :)

He waits to the last minute and of course the show sold out, ugh. I may have forgiven him this time but forgiving him still doesn’t make my Christmas wish come true to see the Growlers on Sunday, 12/29. Grimy Goods, can you puh-leeease make up for my boyfriends fail and make this happen?

Would love to see their new tunes played live off Hung at Heart and Gilded Pleasures albums. Hook it up grimmy, you know I’m good for it!

I would love to win tickets to see the Growlers / Mystic Braves show on *December 29th* because it’s my boyfriends’ birthday AND because it’s such a monumental moment for the Mystic Braves. We’ve been on an amazing journey with them since we first heard them at Eclectic Roots Festival in Irvine last year (after they were squeezed off the initial set-list because of delays) and played on the campgrounds after midnight after finding generators to play their music with. I’ve had faith in them since day one and have been following them throughout their journey since then. It’s been an amazing experience to see how far they have progressed in the past year as a fan and it gives me ~*butterflies*~. I’m so excited and i’m so proud for the fact that they have accomplished SO much in such a small amount of time. Opening up for The Zombies, The Raveonettes and THE GROWLERS!!! I’m literally gonna cry if it don’t win because I feel like they’re one of the only bands that gives me hope for the future generations of music. Love you guys x

  648. Abraham Estrada

I want to win tickets for the Growlers on 12/29. I want to get these tickets to surprise my bestfriend for Christmas, shes a huge Growlers fan. She has been trying to get tickets for a long time and they always sell out. So im hoping to win these for her!

  649. Erika Martinez

I want to see the Growlers on 12/29 so bad because I missed them at beach goth I and beach goth II. :( It’d be the best Christmas gift ever.

  650. Ryan Sendejas

It is very important that I get these tickets! A radical surfer Buddhist cult from Chile has hijacked Santa Clause and has threaten to cancel Christmas for all the little boys and girls of all the world, unless they get tickets to see the Growlers on any of the following days 12/27, 12/28, or 12/29?!?!? Trust… these dudes are AGROO as fugg and hate kids…Especially orphans with weird shaped heads. I know, seriously…. What the “F”??? But for real I got your back and will help save X-Mas for all! Much Love. T-Ry

  651. Bertha Elizarraras

pretty pretty baby pleeeeease choose me for the 28th show! I haven’t been to one of the shows and it’d be fantastic to go on my birthday!

  652. Abraham mora

Straight up! A car accident, the holidays, and bills have me broke as fuh. Besides winning this contest I have no hope of getting my hands on some tix. All I want to do is forget all the bs for a few hours and vibe with the growlers. Please hook a paisano up!

  653. Emily Alvarez

I would love to win tickets to see The Growlers (my favorite band) at The Echo on Saturday, December 28th because all three shows are sold out and I’ve never seen them. All my friends are going and I don’t want to be home that day crying. ):

Thank you for your time. :)

  654. Sandra Traverso

please hook me up with tickets on any day (preferred 28th)! The growlers, mystics and the Abigail’s are some of my favorite bands. I didn’t get to go to beach goth because I was away at university doing a sustainability project. SO THIS WOULD BE A GREAT THANK YOU FOR PLANTING ORGANIC FOOD FOR HOMELESS PEOPLE FOR 5 HOURS. thanks xoxo

  655. Paula

First off, Brooks Nielsen is the love of my life so not giving me these tickets will break my heart! second, the growlers have been my favorite band for more than two years and i’ve been DYING to see them! This would be the best christmas preseant a gal can ask for please help!!! xoxo

I would love to win tickets to see the growlers on Friday the 27th or Saturday the 28th so I can take my friend as a late Xmas gift to her because I recently lost my job and can’t afford to buy tickets. I think If I won, I’d find a pretty sneaky way to invite her too. My email is xarsenal7x@yahoo.com. Thanks for your time and hope I’m able to win!

  657. Yanely Lopez

I would love to win tickets to see my favorite band The Growlers play at the tiniest venue ever (the echo) on 12/28. I can’t get enough of their live performances and I wanna see if this show will top off all of their other shows. So far Beach Goth is in first place!

  658. Enrique Poveda

@Erik – Ha! Glad you dig, Erik. Some readers get pissed and take these too personal. With just about everything on the Internet, take it with a grain of salt. I have nothing against hipsters (I get called one all the time) or any style really, we (and I) write about all lifestyles, and pick on them as well as praise them. I’m guilty of three pairs of shoes on that list, and I still have my first pair of 7-hole green doc martens from 1992. I wish they still fit!

  717. Erik Bustos

Lol I knew Sandy wrote this before seeing her name at the bottom, pretty funny. I always enjoy her anti-hipster posts. I occasionally play in Silverlake and Echo Park too. And yes, we are all guilty of some of these things. I have Dr. Martens, but I had it them before the hipster phenomenon arrived, since i was a little 15 year old kid back in 2001. Keep up the good work :-)

Get educated on public photos and the fact that you can pretty much post anything on the internet. Have you ever seen TMZ or VICE’s dos and donts? You’re probably all the same commenter judging by the continuous ALL CAPS. On a positive note, keep ruling Grimy Goods! And keep delivering these epic hot or nots. I don’t know what show the author went to, but they definitely can’t be talking about the show these pictures are from. GZA looked bored onstage and only rapped less than half of the words in any given line of any of the songs he performed, with no entourage onstage to fill in the blanks. His most enthusiastic moments came when he chastised his DJ for missing cues (6 or 7 times). I’ve seen GZA in concert nearly a dozen times and this show didn’t even come close to matching the level of performance the man is capable of. He was phoning it in, no question.

You had to pre-order from the arcadefirestore.com. They sent out early access codes that you could use only once to either, try to buy tickets to a couple of the small venue warm up shows or wait and get early access to their future arena shows, when they tour. I purchased tix to the Palladium show… and all this past week, I entered every online challenge (through Twitter) via The Music Experience and Intel, to win tix to the secret show (which is at Capitol Records, too) and I finally won! I’m going to both!! So, yes, the information is very accurate! You just have to pay attention.

I’ve been looking forward to this event for so long and was super bummed that I didn’t get tickets considering this is my last year here and last chance to attend beach goth. I love the fact that everyone just does their own thing and dresses up and doesn’t care what anyone thinks. Just there for good music, good vibes, and cool people. The connection between the audience and the band is really cool too, I like how it’s not just a lot of people watching a stage; more of a whole. I love the growlers and their quirkiness and it would be rad as hell for me to see them live! haha and Brooks is such a babe. I would just love to win tickets and I really hope I do! Also I’m really stoked to dress up! haha :)

The aspect of this video that I appreciate the most is definitely the whole vibe it radiates. Every human in that room is so unique yet they become one unit, flowing with strangely beautiful chaotic motion. This video depicts the ability of The Growler’s – and music in general – to unite significantly different people. Transmuting differences into odd similarities. October 19th I am turning 18, The Growlers are my absolute favorite band. They are beyond rad. Winning these tickets would mean the fucking world to me. I want to melt with the people too!

Actually I wrote all of the blogs and magazines down that took my photo that day and not one of those photographers stated that they were taking a photo for a “grimygoods” blog. That’s s fact. You do not have my consent.

  889. Sandy

Hey, Johnny Bee — my photographers don’t need to lie and say such ridiculous things such as they’re shooting for “new york in-style magazine” — perhaps it was one of the “7-8″ other photographers that requested your photos …. don’t fake the funk, homie. Attention seekers love jumping into ANY camera.

P.S. Learn proper grammar and spelling.

P.P.S. Sorry you got butt hurt. I’m surprised you put all that time into leaving a comment, but thanks for your time. That is afterall the purpose of blog posts: to open a pubic forum for discussion with conflicting opinions. Love you and keep on rockin’ that funky fashion, you shining diamond you.

  890. johnny

    1. make a valid point or You need to STFU v
    2. To begin with its pathetic that your photographers need to lie and say there taking photos for new york in-style magazine when its for your insignificant blog, not to even mention the illegal aspects of the matter.
3.TRYHARDING? can you please email me a definitior of this word? I can use context clues however and come to the conclusion that your obviously a jealous baby, because the Gucci belt is worth more than your life.
    4. Its sad how you can’t guess the style, which in turn brings up the question, is your opinion valid as a critic? Any good critic could at LEAST assume the style image or statement any outfit was going for on any single person, so for you not to be able to do the very least, you have no right to even speak. Plus you named Dolly Parton as a fashion icon, enough said on that point.
    5. Let me explain the outfits for you, since it’s obviously beyond your comprehension, exhibit A on the left is a fashion forward display of a classic BOHO look in white because it was the weekend before labor day, which also explains the white mesh tank top in exhibit B which is OBVIOUSLY more of a street style look, and if you knew literally anything about fashion you would have known that overalls were trending in summer.
    6. It also shows your poor taste in fashion seeing as though we were asked to get our photos taken at least 7-8 while also making it as the cover photo for FYF’S faces in the crowd slideshow, (taken by a LEGITIMATE photographer) which further proves your faux pas in the fashion world. (if you’d like my opinion since you so readily give yours you should probably take the whole fashion tab off of your website and stick to music or whatever you THINK you do best bit is clearly not fashion.
7.I would really like to know what looks like the outfits are trying hard or silly, one Outfit has 6 accessories and the other has 8, maybe if you tried to pull any one of these two looks YOU would have to TRY REALLY HARD, but in fact these outfits were super comfy easily put together and coordinated, and manageable for traversing the FYF grounds.
8.Now this next fact might come as a surprise to you, but people actually like to dress up look trendy cute and fashion forward when going to FYF for not only is it a musical event, it has many vendors, and divinely dressed people there, sorry if you were not one of them.
8.And just to wrap up, ripping you a new Asshole, do not speak upon things of which you do not know because then you just end up looking ignorant.
    Your Welcome.

I see no one has posted here. I wouldn’t mind going to this show either. I could write a review or take some photos if you want. Thanks Grimy Goods!

  916. Daisha McBride

I love supras! I im a sneaker lover who has an attachment to supras. My favorite supras are the womens skytops! I bought my first pair a year ago and they are still my favorite pair of shoes. People are always asking me where i bought them from.

  917. juan navarro

I like them all!! Especially the griffins, stacks and strikes.. i need some new ones, wearing mine to work got them looking funky!

  918. Meredith c

I like the black stacks. I want to win them for my fiancé because he is such an amazing man, father and works so hard to support me through my college journey. plus he would look damn fine in them :)

  927. Lisa Goodwin

Savages sound like all of my favorite bands rolled into one! On top of that,
they are all women. Badass! I want to go to their show with Grimy Goods! xo

  928. Jessica Sill

I am an avid concert goer and music lover from Los Angeles. My absolute favorite genere of music is New Wave/ Post-punk. I am an aspiring female musician/vocalist myself and ever since being introduced to Savages/Jenny Beth have been so inspired. I’ve never had to good fortune to see Savages live and would be honored to represent Grimy Goods along with all other Angelino music lovers at the Fonda, on the 30th. Thank you.

  929. James Kim

I have to see this band live! I’ve been playing “Silence Yourself” nonstop in the car — so much so that I burnt out my cd player and now their album won’t eject. No joke, every time I drive my car, Savages in playing in the background. I could switch it to the radio, but I keep getting sucked into their music. I can’t get them out of my head, let alone out of my car stereo.

  930. James Kim

I would love to go to this show! Yes, it’s a far drive from LA to Pomona but Frightened Rabbit is totally worth it.

  931. Joseph

I’d love to see savages; I’ve missed them every time they’ve been in LA. As for why I should win.. I used a semicolon correctly. That has to count for something.

  932. Angela

I’ve tried to see them many times, but circumstances always get in the way! Saved up money, tried to purchase a ticket and lo and behold, the ticket website doesn’t work. I would LOVE to see them courtesy of Grimy Goods!

  942. Eli Ilijoska

Supra WMNS CUTTLER are my favourite :) very cool, very comfortable. It would be amazing if I have them. We don’t have Supra in my country, we have to go Greece or Bulgaria :(

  943. Jovan Austin

I woulf have to go w/ the TK’S that’s what caught my eye but I have a lot og Henry’s now.. All I wear is Supras besides a pair of my running shoes they Nike’s lol and my Moccassins ! Haha ..

  944. Diego Castellanos

My favorite Supras are the black patent leather and studded skytops!! Classics!! and the teal steel tks!!! I own 14 pairs and those two are part of my collection along with some limited editions!! Havent been able to keep up but I’m digging all the new styles and color ways!!!

  945. Christina m

itd be cool to see them cause i was recently introduced to them and plussssss i dont have money to buy a ticket :)

  946. Jerry

Can’t wait to see London Grammar. I saw their set at The Bardot a couple of months ago and I loved it though it was abbreviated. I’m excited to for a longer set.

  947. Joseph Mason

I can dig the part where they find Ty Segall amongst the crowd and I love the psychedelic images that play behind their performance. Plus the close up of all the stellas in the crowd is pretty groovy as well. Either way, we are making route from Oklahoma to Beach Goth this year! Let the weirdness commence.

  948. Bea Ratificar

Personally I love Supra shoes. Same goes for my older sister. They are just superb and stunningly stylish ♥ If I would to choose one, it would be the Supra Vaider Black Zebra, Pink & Royal Nubuck Girls Skate Shoe. They are just amazing ♥

However, I’m entering for my older sister (who is kinda boyish ;)) She reallyy really likes the VAIDER LX(white/tan-white), and the GRIFFIN(the white/gray/blue colored one). It would mean the world if ever I’d win, and so will it be for my sister. I really would love to win this please. My sister are huge fans of Supras.

  949. Lawren

I think this is a great post and you are very informative. Thank you for this post. This helped me a lot. Being an indie singer/songwriter myself, at times you don’t always think about the fact that marketing your brand is so important. How will anyone know you without the proper exposure? I also love this post because most of us have little to no budget at all. These are perfect ideas to get marketing going without spending a dime. Thank you!

  950. Ben Pinedo

Hey Grimy Goods I will love to win a pair of SUPRAS it will be so cool if I did. I looked online and all of the shoes have a cool style I like the SUPRA SKYTOP! Its been a while since I got new shoes they can be expensive. I been needing new shoes so it will be a blessing to win this and be able to own & rock out a pair of SUPRAS! Thanks God Bless have a good day and thanks for these cool opportunities to win.

  951. Cecilia Ramirez

Some of my favorite Supras include WMNS Wrap and the WMNS Cuttler. I think I should win because Supras bring both Style and Performance to the table. Not every shoe has both of those elements. Would love to win this contest! Hope I’m one of the lucky winners.

  952. Alexa T.

Lovin’ the women’s purple/bluegrass wrap shoes — the colors are exuberant and would brighten up any outfit. I don’t have any shoes like these, and honestly, I want to try a different style for a change.

  953. Carlos Parga

Definitely love the Skytop LX Prestige and the Wrap Up. Its something about them that say “classic”. I should win because as Fall season is upon us, there wouldn’t be a better way to get ready for Fall that with a sick pair of Supras.

  954. Jess

Definitely the ending where warren thomas made that sale is one of the best parts! Hahaha. & how people were just sparking it up in there. I hope I win, I’m trynna blaze these dudes out! lionheartt24@yahoo.com

  963. Tommy Short

My GF says I need to stop wearing Vans so much! I love the Amigos for chilling in, and the Owens for that stylie athletic pair!!

  964. Pandayna

The black leather women’s Skytop shoes are my favorite! I’ve never owned a pair, but my friend loves them! I would be more than happy to own a pair!

  965. Richard Jimmy Perez

Favorite SUPRAS Have got to be the Vaider for surrre plain and simple I’ve had ine going on a year now and i still love them but its about time to upgrade from my holey Vaiders so please Grimy Goods if you could! :]

  966. Vanessa Hurtado

So many great styles, but I’m loving the women’s Vaider in purple & pink or the coral & white. They remind me of some old sneakers I had in the 90′s, except way more fashionable! And with fall/winter rolling around, I’ve gotta face it, these flip flops I’ve been wearing all summer are not going to cut it anymore. Hope I get lucky enough to win a pair of Supras!

  967. Michael Hillson

The GRIFFIN and OWEN styles look great. My shoes are seriously in need of replacing – they’re being held together with Shoe Goo and not much more :O Winning a new pair of Supras from Grimy Goods would be Amazing!

  968. Fernando Islas

my favorite pair of Supra shoes are skytop in all black because i fell in love with them 2 years ago when i saw DJ Headhunterz at EDC Las Vegas wearing them. i was standing front row and he stood up on the DJ decks and that’s when i noticed he had Supras on, been in love with ‘em ever since just haven’t been lucky enough to own a pair of my own.

  969. Francisco Vargas

Los Growlers & Burger Records know how to party! Beach Goth Party II can’t wait! Best part of the video is seeing people blaze it hahaha! That’s two shiny pennies right there.

  970. Chad

Hey! I would love tickets for this show because king krule has become one of my absolute favorite artists of all time. Me and my best friend play his album on repeat everyday since its been released. We are mesmerized by his soulful rich voice and his overall musical spirit. It would be an honor to see this artist in person and see the show to help visualize the sounds he creates.
Thank you so much for the opportunity!

Just listened to him on kcrw live this morning and he is amazing. His voice and his music is unique in so many different ways. I tried winning tickets on kcrw and got thru but unfortunately was too late. You are my last hope of seeing king krule tomorrow night!! Please pick me

  980. Karl Sunglao

Just tapped into this cat we call King Krule and I love what’s ringing in my ears! 984. Jasmine Aragon

I would love to win tickets to see king krule because he has such raw talent and the most unique voice! I’m trying to hear this live! I wish I could buy tickets but I’m a broke college student (typical, I know) I love his tracks with mount kimbie too! I hope he gets bigger than he already is! Btw I tweeted grimy goods earlier this week to please give away tix to this so you know I really want this! Pleaseee this would be soooo sick to see such a young talent right before I go back to school :-) :-) :-)

  985. Luna Santaolalla

We are absolutely obsessed with his voice, and his musical spirit. Please please tickets would be the greatest gift since its unfortunately sold out!
    Thanks for the opportunity!
    -Luna

I really want to go because I’ve been a fan of king krule for awhile now but unfortunately wasn’t able to buy tickets in time since it sold out. If I win it’d make my month :) please

  988. Olivia Carreon

Yo Grimy! I neeeed to win tickets to King Krule because I’m a Mexican girl with a thing for red heads, especially red heads with sexy ass voices like Archie! His voice is like warm, velvety champurrado for my ears!

  989. Jessica

I have to see him cause ive been listening since this kid was 16 as zoo kid. I had no idea he was playing and when i did, both shows were sold out! I have to see this ginge, PLEASE.

  990. Jade San Angel

King Krule was a recent discovery I just made, and I’m pretty stoked on it. My friends 21st is coming up and I would like to surprise them with tickets to this show! We didn’t expect it to sell out so fast and missed out on buying tickets.

Shouldn’t this girl be happy the way she looks? As long as there’s no health risk she should be able to wear whatever she wants and feel happy while wearing it.

  993. Joey Kolk

I was pooping while watching this video, and my favourite part was at the beginning, when a guy dressed as the sun was dancing. Why? Because watching the sun dance around while pooping feels glorious. Joeyk96@ymail.com

  994. Cynthia

This is so mean, it’s infuriating. Shaming people’s body types is why some people end up with eating disorders and low self esteem. How about you spend more time writing about music and less time writing about how bad you think people look? thanks.

  995. Aaron Brandis

The Danny Brown photo is my favorite from LA Day 2, looks like Danny has his Halloween look already sorted out!!

  996. Aaron Brandis

JHENE AIKO is the best photo from LA day one, pushing on through a plastered up arm, what a trooper

  997. Hannah Sciurba

The picture of Lecrae is pretty magical. Rock The Bells is about so much more than just hip-hop…it’s about true artists expressing themselves with a massive crowd of people for support. And I don’t mean financial support; buying albums, tshirts, etc. I mean actual moral support. Getting on stage and putting yourself out there is one of the hardest things you can do when you’re honest. RTB is an opportunity to be completely honest with thousands of people and not be judged. @shesintheband

  998. Jessica Celi

My favorite picture has got to be The Internet one. A lot of people seem to think that listening to Hip Hop and rap is all trash, that all that’s talked about is the money, women, and drugs… But hip hop is an outlet, a way for an individual to express him or herself through pure creativity from one’s mind, from the life they’re living by, the things they have gone through. It’s more then beats and flows, it’s emotion and heart that is put into lyrical verses and it’s even better when you can relate.

  999. Diego Sanchez

The I am a Hip Hop Baby picture is my favorite because it is awesome to see kids at hip hop shows. Many people associate Hip Hop shows as a place in which violence takes places and even though there are fights every now and then, most people go there to enjoy the music and have a good time. Great shot by the way.

  1000. Stephen Manzano

That hip hop baby reminds me of Bizzy Bone, before he left the group the first time. Those were the good ol’ days.

  1001. dennis gaughan

The sun-burned girl dropping it low even though her skin needs immediate attention because it’s just ridiculous. Would like it in GIF form, please.

  1002. Linda Vazquez

I Love A$AP Rocky picture! He knows how to demand the attention of the audience without any effort and I would love to see him perform live. My friend just went this past weekend to the LA ROCK THE BELLS and she had a blast. Would love to visit the bay area and get to see all of these amazing artists perform. It reminds me of the good ol days when I was kid, listening to Hip-Hop with my older siblings :)

  1003. Michael Orellano

The hype is real!!! i’ve been dying to go to RTB in Sf for the last 3 years. ive never been to a concert, actually! so hookin it up with some tix would be awesome!!1 – @InvisiblePanda

  1004. Rigs

When people have a caption that isn’t even related to the picture/video. Like if its a picture of friends at tye bus stop, they write my mum’s making me do homework.

  1005. Angie Gonzalez

2 BURGER BABEZ MAKING OUT WAS FOR SURE THE BEST PART. TALK ABOUT SOMETHING STRANGE TAKING OVER YOU.

HERE’S A MEDIUM. FUCK YEAH. FUCK YEAH.
If I win, I will pass the dutchie on the left hand side.

  1006. Michael Sanchez

Beautiful Struggle is by far my favorite track! As a songwriter it has inspired me to meet his level of observance and write about the current situations I am living in.

  1007. Kevin Kleine

Hot thang. Song just oozes sex, girls love it, guys love it, and the video is one of his best. Loved how the visuals flowed so well to his lyrics. But who the hell am I kidding, dude is a legend and it is impossible to pick one song. Give me pretty much any track from reflection eternal or black star, and ill be alright. And I pretty much lose my shit anytime the beat drops in the blast. Hope to see him later tonight!

  1008. Abhishek Sachdeva

Thank you so much Grimy Goods and Sonos for this amazing giveaway, and for giving the fans an opportunity to see Talib Kweli perform at this intimate venue. My favorite Talib Kweli song is “Get By”. It is such an uplifting song, and has helped me keep my spirits up when I was feeling down, and has a special place in my heart. It would be dream come true to listen to it live. Plus, it is my partners birthday, and he is a Talib fan himself. To be able to see this special and private show would make his birthday truly unforgettable. Thank you once again for this contest. Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

  1009. Karl Sunglao

Most treasured track……..Talib Kweli & Makeba Mooncycle – Lunchroom Classics from the Tags of the Time 2.0 compilation LP. I was digging in the small hip hop section at Burger Records in Fullerton, CA and got the japanese pressed album for $13!!! The compilation features The Grouch, Apani B., J-treds, Murs, and other amazing cats on amazing tracks. The record was signed by Murs on the tracklist when I purchased it and developed a dream mission to get the record signed by all the artists on the album. Talib Kweli would make it 2 out of 16!

seriously though give this track a listen for the love of the hip hop cosmos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BE0mur1pQo

  1010. Aaron

One of my favorite hip hop albums of all time is Reflection Eternal. Reminds me of many incredible experiences I shared with the little brother of my best friend from college. We both found ourselves in India (he was teaching in Tamil Nadu and I was backpacking around the country) and had some pretty wild adventures together. Hard to pick just one song since the whole album is so solid, but I guess I’ll go with “Africa Dream,” love the trumpet and I kept repeating that refrain forever back then. “If you can talk, you can sing. If you can walk, you can dance…”

  1011. Nic Somilleda

My favorite Talib song is “Joy”. It’s cool how he talks about the birth of his kid, what they went through and how Mos Def helped him out. Not too many artists rap about that soft of stuff. Also the beat is sick!

  1012. Celeste Bacchi

Talib Kweli has my heart! I’m a huge fan of his collaborations – Mos Def and Talib Kweli are Black Star remains in my top five favorite hip hop albums, and “Astronomy (8th Light)” is one of my favorite songs of all time. But from his solo albums, I would have to pick “Joy” as my favorite song… it’s pure, unabashed, and straight up awesome.

  1013. Spencer Aragon

my favorite song is “the blast” with hi-tek
that is a song I listen to at least once daily
its one of the best good feeling songs ive ever heard and I cant get enough

  1014. Rachel

Thieves in the night with Black Star- its my favorite because of the way their voices harmonize and the whimsical lyrics feel like they bring you to another time and place.

  1015. Mondo

“I try” is one of the most influential hip hop songs in my life. It has such a classic rhythm and lyrics that get everyone to sing along. It’s the perfect combination of a soulful singer, politically aware MC, and keyboard based rhythm. Doesn’t get much better in my opinion.

  1016. Erin Rivera

So many to choose from but “I Feel You” is a beauty! That “Bye” sample from Dilla is the cherry on top.

  1017. Philip Kuon

Reflection eternal – move somethin’ – the train of thought LP changed my life/ musical landscape !

  1018. Marii Joekalda

Holy moses, that would be amazing….to have a chance to see Talib Kweli live in such an intimate setting! That’s the music I grew up with, would bring back many memories, +, I could also introduce my man to some good hip-hop. Talib Kweli has so many amazing songs & collabs, if I gotta choose one right here, it’d be “Good Mourning” with Hi-tek… I guess I’m a sucker for those songs that speak to every single one of us..no matter where. “Stay awake to the ways of the world” & “Celebrate life” – that says it all! I really hope I’ll have a chance to go!

  1019. Nikki Simms

if I have to pick only one song, it has to be “Never been in love”. That song just hit home and at the time I could relate to it very much.

  1020. Krissy Do

Man, my all time favorite song by Talib Kweli is “Never Been In Love.” So chill, so great, so catchy. I can sing and dance to this all day!

  1021. Anthony Lozano

Love most of what Talib Kweli does, but I love “Soon the New Day” ft. Norah Jones. Talib’s flow is so smooth on that track and with Norah Jones on the hook complimenting his flow with her smooth vocals. It’s just a a chilled out dosage of smooooth.

  1022. Lia Marshall

Fav song?! So hard, but Black Girl Pain off of Beautiful Struggle because he speaks to the pain and struggle of black women in the world. So much of contemporary music is derogatory towards women and this speaks to hope and love for women of the future

  1023. Gerardo Sanchez

My girlfriend has never really been into hip hop PRE us dating – so I tried to get her into what I enjoy by getting her to listen to Talib since I feel like a good majority of his records are perfectly balanced for both hip hop heads and non hip hop heads. So I put on the Get By record and she loved it. Since then shes TAKEN ME to Talib Shows when hes been in town. I credit Talib on changing her mind on Hip hop till this day!

  1024. Diana Ortega

The best part is The Growlers’ performance, Ty, the costumes, drinks, the girls making out and the “Fuck yeah, fuck yeah-eahnyeah ah”

  1025. bear

So uncool. He’s a friend of mine. A nice guy and a true individual. You should be applauding him for his true punk rock spirit instead of ridiculing him on your blog. Shame on you and Melissa Stern.

  1026. Alex Rendon

My favorite part of the video is when the camera faced the crowd, the song setting a relaxing yet upbeat mood. You’re able to see how much the audience is enjoying themselves; they’re laughing, singing, dancing, cheering, fooling around, etc. When you see the crowd you see them having fun in their own way, whether it be lighting up a smoke or dancing along to the music. As some of the attendees smile at the camera you know that they’re having an amazing time and want more. The connection between the crowd, band and each other is clearly visible as the crowd cheers the band on, jumping up and down.

  1027. michelle

How do none of these people look hot and sweaty? I was basically melting until about 10pm each night! Oh and I’m sorry but I can’t get back into the whole fanny pack fad. It was barely ok back when I was 12 on a school field trip to Knotts.

  1028. Joel G

HAHA this is so true “Most high profile Bloggers and media are inundated with emails and only get to mabye 20 percent of emails during the week.” we were getting nowhere before. then we got some help and we started goin viral now bloggers always message us back.

  1029. Karen

I may not look the part of a hop hop fan but looks can be deceiving. I am a huge Common fan. I love that his music addresses real issues and addresses wombyn in a respectful manner. He’s a gem in the community and I’d love to see him perform “The People” amongst other gems up his sleeve. *swoon*

  1030. Joseph Nandino

Slick Rick – Hey Young World, is my favorite hip hop song of all song because it was the first time I was taught that this world is mine.

  1031. Brandon Contreras

Well I can honestly say that I can’t choose just one moment in this video that’s my favorite because the whole video was dope! I didn’t get to go last year because I couldn’t get a ride but I’m so ready for this year! I love how everyone that has ever felt like an outcast or is just weird can meet up and listen to some great bands. I could feel the good vibes coming from the screen and I would die if I could win some tickets to this event. Anyways if I was held against my will to only choose one part of the video: I would have to choose the music, and how the love was being spread, kissing and dancing that’s so rad!

  1032. Arti Hernandez

i have the biggest love and respect for wu-tang clan so my favorite hip-hop song has to be Bring Da Rukus or M.E.T.H.O.D Man! hard decision!

  1033. Carlos R

I am going to have to say B.I.B.L.E by GZA and KILLAH PRIEST.
The title itself says it all ….
    Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.

  1034. Esther Roosevelt Bent

Best thing about this video is that in this night, everyone was an equal. Masked by make up or covered in costume there was no fear of being judged. I know from being a part of both nights of this fantastic event that everyone there felt accepted and loved. The music, the people, the place, it was a lost soul’s home.

  1035. Kris

My favorite Hip Hop song of all time? That’s a really hard question. If I had to pick, I would say Truth Is by Brother Ali. The lyrics are a call to action for the listener, urging social change beginning with each of us as individuals. The chorus is anthemic, building up with more and more intensity to give the listener the same desire Brother Ali has for true, lasting change in both mindset and action of the human race as a whole. This kind of message is what drew me to Hip Hop in the first place and the reason I became an emcee myself.

  1036. Michael Real

My favorite hip hop song of all time would be “Dancing with the devil” Immortal Technique, not only is it a classic it’s a representation of real life events that happen everyday. From the influences of our peers and material things. It’s tragic yet poetic, to we’re it relates to all of us in one way or another. What makes this song my favorite as well, is the artist who not only produces great lyrics to this song but his action as a humanitarian. “Cause a dance with the devil might last you forever”

  1037. Temo Ruiz

My favorite hip hop song is from 93′ till infinity by Souls of Mischief , what’s there not to love about this song? Dope lyrics and the rhythm of the beat is pure craft. I like this song because its perfect to bump anytime! Yo Grimey Goods I know you chillen! Hahaha

  1038. Erika Arinaga

My favorite song is “HiiiPower” by K.Dot from Section.80. So many songs out there I could’ve chosen but this one is my favorite & means a lot to me. I even got “HiiiPower” eye tattooed on the back of my neck.

What is HiiiPower you may ask? “HiiiPower is the way we think, the way we live. See its known today that the human race is nothing, no morals, no standards. What we about to do is raise the level of expectations. No you don’t have to a lot money, you don’t have to be rich but you will be rich in mind & spirit. Some say big is a crew, some say big is a game, HiiiPower. We stand for it as big as a religion.” -K.Dot.

I started to identify myself. I asked myself where do I stand. This song seriously turned the tables for me & started looking at things in a different perspective; knowledge & wisdom in the body, mind, & spirit(K.Dots words) I represent myself, I can’t let some other power control what I believe. I look up I my own. I started to believe in myself, believe in heart, honor, respect. So when I hear this song, all else is silent to me except the lyrics to HIIIPOWER.

  1039. Mark Turner

My favorite hip hop song of all time is NAS “Undying Love” to me its the most vivid storytelling anyone could ever ask for in a song. I used to zone out to that track and think to myself “you know what even though I have no directing experience …..I got this shit, I’d do it for free too ” That track pretty much cemented NAS as my favorite artist of all time.

  1040. Justyce Chavez

Lords of the Underground – Cheif Rocka.. I feel like this song embodies hip hop.. from the smooth beat to the raw lyrics… This track is a classic. Takes you straight back to the 90s East Coast roots of true spitting.

  1041. Kira Brown

My favorite hip hop song of all times is Faith by Kendrick Lamar from The Kendrick Lamar Ep that dropped in 2009,the first project he released after the name change.. I say this is my favorite song because it tells a story of not giving up on your faith. Things might happen to you in your life, but don’t ever give up and lose youf faith because of it.You can overcome whatver is holding you back. When he spit the first verse it makes you want to sit down and listen to more. He said,”I take a sip of Hennessy and then get pissy drunk I ain’t a drinker, I’m a thinker, call it what you want,But if you turn your back, know that you just missed your chance. To witness the realest shit that’s ever been told to man, I found myself losing focus at a Sunday service.Embarrassed so I start questioning God, “What is my purpose?”
He said to live the way he did, that’s all he want from me Spread the word and witness, he rose on the first Sunday. I said alright, enthused that my Lord gave a listen I opened my Bible in search to be a better Christian. And this from a person that never believed in religion
But shit, my life is so fucked up, man; I can’t help but give in, I’m giving testimonies to strangers I never met Hopped on the pulpit and told them how I was truly blessed
Felt like I’m free from all my sins when the service was over
Walked out the church, then got a call that my homie was murdered
    Then lost my faith again”

Kendrick Lamr isn’t drinking just because, he drinking to get into a state to think. An obvious contrast to the concept of faith and holiness, and that’s deep. Even though he may be pissy drunk, the message he is trying to give is not diluted. He is a sinner, but if you let that stand in the way of listening to his message, you will miss out on him spitting the truth about faith.

in the first verse he said, ” He said to live the way he did, that’s all he want from me
Spread the word and witness, he rose on the first Sunday”

God wants Kendrick to live a good life and to accept the principal tenet of Christianity the resurrection of Christ. This is the main separation between the teachings of House of Abraham religions. When he spit that line it reminded me of when he said he had that vision of Tupac.

. Kendrick said that he once saw a silhouette of Tupac while he was half asleep. Tupac told him to ‘keep doing what you’re doing and don’t let my music die’. The line used here is similar to what Tupac said to Kendrick. Kendrick might be saying that God sent down Tupac to send Kendrick this message. Alternatively, he could be using God as a metaphor for Tupac in the sense that Tupac is the God of Hip-Hop.

“So the next time you feel like your world’s about to end
I hope you studied because He’s testing your faith again”

That is why Faith is my favorite song. It makes you sit back and think deeply about your life and your faith. It details stories of faith and opinions on the struggle people go through with keeping said faith through trying times, as well as battling temptation.

  1042. Paige Moody

my favorite hiphop song of all time would have to be Tupac – i get around

Tupac is hands down one of the best hip hop artists of all time, great story teller, he’s real. down to earth, reminds me of when i was a youngin, born and raised in los angeles, California. too bad we had to lose a great one so soon. ROCK THE BELLS 2013 !!!!!!!!!!

  1043. Michelle D

    Regulate – Warren G & Nate Dogg
this classic G-funk song is a great example of storytelling. song is so smooth. The Regulators style can’t be imitated. “the rhythm is the bass, and the bass is the treble~” nobodyyyy does it betterrrr! west side reppin, RIP and happy late birthday, Nate Dogg

  1044. Ricardo Verdejo Yañez

My favorite song is Bone Thugs n Harmony “Tha Crossroads”: the flows, harmonic sounds and the lyrics make this song one of the most popular songs of all time. This is a song that gives you courage to go ahead, even when you’re falling. I want this tickets please, im from Chile, and ill go to LA just for Rock The Bells to see my favorite group… Bone Thugs n Harmony. Please help me with this.

Best? Da Mystery of Chessboxin. Everything on it is perfect. Best ODB verse, each line is arguably the best work by the best in the business. It’s no contest.

Personal favorite is Da Goodness by redman though~

  1047. ariana

My favorite hip hop song would have to be Put it On by Big L. The reason this is my favorite hip hop song is because unlike a lot of the people I know who listen to hip hop, I wasn’t raised listening to this type of music. I was introduced to it when I met a friend who is still one of the biggest Big L fans ever. He asked me if I knew who he was bumping and I said I had no clue. We ended up listening to the whole album “Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous” It struck a cord with me and I knew from then on it wouldn’t be the last time I would be listening to this type of music.

  1048. Brittney Hart

My favorite hip hop song of all time is The Heart pt. 2 by Kendrick Lamar ft. Dash Snow. I don’t even need to reason with that one, man. He went IN! I also love Ab-Soul’s Book of Soul and Eminem’s Stimulate. I love how Ab-Soul was so honest about so many things in Book of Soul and just allowed himself to be honest and vulnerable. Eminem is always dope at story telling and conveying emotion, not only through his lyrics but in his delivery. He’s crafty as hell! That “IIIIIIIIIIII’m” always gets me so amped. Hahaha

Bring da ruckus- Wu Tang . Wu tang made life with this song and album. They entered you into a world that most were unfamiliar with yet adored. We were there with the clan bringing the ruckus shaolin style the whole song and album. The art of hip hop is about expression and how these lyricists can allow their audience to experience their unique thought process. We want to enter a new world and enjoy it when we hear music. I am lost in the art if kung fu, while at the same time wanting to Fuck shit up. There style was different so the journey through the song was all new. The different rappers splashed their words on a colorful masterpiece. The production kept you in their world they were trying to portray. It’s different, revolutionary and hiphop all in one. Love.

  1050. Adam Lobe

My favorite hip hop is Can I Live- Jay Z, from lyricism to flow to the laid back jazzy beat everything about it is well constructed and so smooth to listen to

  1051. Cecilia juarez

One if my favorite songs has to be “cleaning up my closet” by Eminem. It’s always been a favorite of mine since I was a little girl. It’s my favorite song because he opens up about the relationship he has with his mother. He never meant to be cruel or disrespect his mother in any way. Cleaning out my closet is about all the secrets he was hidding about their relationship. Even though their relationship wasn’t going well doesn’t mean he still loves his mom. His mom wished that Eminem would have dies instead of his uncle Ronnie . But he disappeared from her life makin it seam like he is dead to her.

Best hip hop song of all time in my opinion is the notorious b.i.g.- sky’s the limit . this song is just amazing from the beat chorus verse and i can really realte to it.

  1054. Neli ✌ ⚾ (@thinkbluela27)

My favorite song is “Changes” by 2Pac. I feel that this songs speak not only to African Americans but people who live in inner cities. Coming from South Central LA, we are born under a system where people of color are the ones who are seen inferior and its hard to get out of the neighborhood. This songs sends a good message. Every time I listen to this song, it gives me motivation to finish college. It makes me reflect about what I grew up seeing around my neighborhood and how people of color are viewed through white supremacy. This song will never get old as it is one of the songs that still keeps 2Pac alive.

  1055. Alyssa Portugal

My favorite hip hop song of all time is Doo Wop by Lauryn Hill! She’s so real and has the head-nodding beats that just make you feel good! Society is so focused on sex that it’s refreshing to hear her warn people about the intentions of those who just want to use people. Lauryn Hill has always been one of hip hop’s queens, especially when she performed on MTV’s Unplugged!

  1056. Lucia Lopez

My favorite hip hop song is birds eye view by Zion I !!!!! It’s my favorite because hip hop is life ! :)

  1057. Ryan

My favorite hip hop song would have to be “Bonita Applebum” by A Tribe Called Quest. This was the first hip hop song I remember hearing as a kid and the song that got me into hip hop. To me it has so much meaning, from a kid growing up in LA, to where I am now. It never gets old and will forever bring back countless memories. Now I collect records and own all ATCQ records and many more. I’m a hip hop fanatic, from De La Soul to ASAP MOB. I love hip hop. And I gotta thank “Bonita Applebum” and Tribe. I will forever stay bumping hip hop

  1058. Nicoellette manangan

HANDS DOWN…. KENDRICK LAMAR MAAD CITY! I MEAN WHO CAN DISAGREE? But as a plan B… ASAP FERG WORK REMIX!!!! I really want these tickets it will be super dope to see all these rappers perform :)

  1059. bill lang

The best hip hop song of all time, undisputably by any hip hop fan, is The Message by Grandmaster Flash. It is the best beat, with the rawest story telling that set the bar for 30+ years of hip hop to follow.

It gives you a vivid description the reality of what is going on with a lot of people and it resonates with me. Which is why I believe this is the best hip hop song, of all time.

“A child is born with no state of mind
Blind to the ways of mankind
God is smiling on you but he’s frowning too
Because only God knows what you’ll go through
You’ll grow in the ghetto, living second rate
And your eyes will sing a song of deep hate
The places you’re playin’, where you stay
Looks like one great big alley way
You’ll admire all the number book takers
Thugs, pimps, pushers and the big money makers
Driving big cars, spending twenties and tens
And you wanna grow up to be just like them, huh,
    Smugglers, scrambles, burglars, gamblers
    Pickpockets, peddlers even panhandlers
You say: “I’m cool, I’m no fool!”
But then you wind up dropping out of high school
    Now you’re unemployed, all non-void
Walking ’round like you’re Pretty Boy Floyd
Turned stickup kid, look what you’ve done did
Got sent up for a eight year bid
Now your manhood is took and you’re a may tag
Spend the next two years as a undercover fag
Being used and abused to serve like hell
Till one day you was found hung dead in a cell
It was plain to see that your life was lost
You was cold and your body swung back and forth
But now your eyes sing the sad, sad song
Of how you lived so fast and died so young….”

  1060. Dakota Rambin

I’m so excited bout the new line up! I’d be in music paradise at the FYF! It will always be the best festival in Los Angeles! Hieroglyphics Feat. Goapele
    “Make your move”
Make Your Move’a great example of what Hiero and alternative West Coast hip hop in general can be

  1063. Leticia

Just to get by: talib kweli
    Talib Kweli is amazing,
What I think and ponder about , when I review this song track is the “struggle”( everyday hardships ex. Bills, rent, groceries, and living.) that those suffering from poverty in the lower class go through and endure everyday on a daily basis, and what extent they would go through tocompensate for it just to make it and survive. Most of these people let the system break us and bring us down, they cause us to fall into our stereotype and jump on the bandwagon. Sadly, that’s too many of us.
Such a good song, about doing what you have to do to make it through life each and everyday. This is what real rap is, not unintelligent violent drib. I love his lyrics and all the references,

  1064. Anthoony Cali

Juicy by the Notorious BIG. It is a song of celebration and success. How Hip-hop changed Christopher Wallace’s, and all of our, lives. How he used to look up to other rappers and could only dream of being in their shoes. From being told he wouldn’t amount to anything from his teachers to being able to put diamond earrings in his baby girl’s ear. The struggle he had overcome and the sweet taste of victory. ‘Birthdays were the worst days. now we sip champagne when we thirst-ay” Hands down, every time I play this song or hear it on the radio, it gives me chills. The power of spoken word, the power of rap. the power of Notorious BIG.

  1065. Doug Linares

favorite hip hop track is Buddy (remix) by De La Soul. this track just lightens me up and makes me all-around happy, even in the video everyone is so happy, like the beat is so funky. If this track doesn’t just make your day then i don’t know what goes on in your head. I’m hearing the song as i type this and its so hard because i just put my hands in the air and snap my fingers while i move side to side. BUDDY.

My favorite part of the vid was seeing everyone dressed up and having a great time grooving to the music. Obviously, the Growlers is the best part of the vid. It’s such a bummer that I missed this awesome event, it looks like it was a blast and hoping that I win the tickets so I can go.

  1071. Fernando

I seriously get chills when i watch this video. the vibes all those people felt that night must have been amazing, the growlers’ music is just so surreal and i kind of hate myself for missing out on last year.

THE BEST PART OF THE VIDEO WAS THOSE 2 CHICKS MAKING OUT CAUSE I MEAN WHO DOESN’T LOVE TWO CHICKS MAKING OUT TO THE GROWLERS?!

  1081. Larissa Ayala

When a hip hop artist can spit words that make you feel an emotion so deep, who’s lyrics can enlighten and awaken the minds of society. Then they respectfully enter the world of hip hop and not just make a beat, but a change. Immortal technique “dance with the devil” a song so real you feel it. Underground hip hop changed my life.

Without a doubt my favorite of all time is 2 Pac – Keep ya head up!! I grew up in the hood, was a teenage mom, and went through a lot. This song gave me hope! I knew I wasn’t alone and things would get better! Powerful! :)

  1087. Justin Tanori

The greatest track of all time is worst comes to worst by Dilated Peoples with ALC on the beat and guru saluting them on the track c’mon people family first!

    Hello Grimy Goods!

Can I just say how amazing it would be to swim underneath the stars while listening to the LA Phil and M83. I have always described M83 as music planets make when they are moving about in the cosmos. It would just be such a celestial night if I could go with my special someone and dance with the stars (not making a reference to the trashy ABC reality show I promise)!

    Keep up the great work!

    Love,

    Karen

I should win because I am THE future bartender. The master of cocktails. The mixologist of this century. Always good to sample what I’ll be making in the future :D

  1090. Desiree Guevara

My favorite hip-hop song is LongLiveSteelo by Joey Bada$$. This song is definitely great because of the amount of emotion and meaning. It’s not just another rap about making it to the top and everything he has. It’s about something he lost. Someone he lost. Listening to this song reminds me of a fallen brother who passed 6 months ago just before his 18th birthday. It reminds me of him so much, because everything in Joeys lyrics are exactly how I felt after losing him. Even when someone is gone, you will still feel their presence and spirit. Their legacy will never die. Any rapper who can show that kind of emotion is truly the realest.

  1091. Katlin S.

I think it’s truly difficult to choose just one song. But my favorite hip hop song has to be Juicy by Notorious BIG! That is a true started from the bottom story that hits home with everyone who has ever heard it. He dreamt of being famous and never gave that dream up! He worked his ass off to make sure he could provide a life for his family that he never had growing up. A true inspiration to everyone!

  1092. Mariah Gonzales

Life Goes On by 2pac. This song opened my eyes to reality, something most of us can relate to when someone close to us passes. Or in general, overcoming an obsticle, which is how I use these words as a motto to remind myself at the end of the day to do you and don’t keep your mind stuck on the past.

  1093. Edward S.

Madvillain – Accordion. Mostly because it was my first real exposure to “underground” (whatever that means) hip hop. At 16 I never thought that hip hop could function as an eccentric vehicle for expression. After listening to that song, the rest of the album and subsequent personal hip hop favorites were key in my hunt for new music.

Oh, and pick me for these tickets, please!

  1094. Adriana Renteria

Best hip hop song I have to say is No Regrets by Lecrae. I have recently discovered his music, and it has just been a blessing just grasping what he had to say, and actually having the wisdom to understand. He has made an impeccable impact in my life, and that song really explains the true meaning of life. I just love how he’s all spiritual. God is the way of life, the truth, the light. It would be an amazing experience to see him perform @ rock the bells!! Never would have thought he would be there to perform. I just want to be there to support him with my Love because he really changed our lives through the works of God. It would be an amazing show, and I can imagine the people there to support him as well. It would be an awesome experience!!

  1095. Celeste Bacchi

This is a brutal choice! But I think I’d have to go with Wu-Tang’s “The Mystery of Chessboxin’” — I was a chubby nerd with thick glasses being forced to take chess lessons when I first heard it 20 years ago, so you can imagine how it blew my mind. I’d heard and enjoyed hip hop before this song, but it changed my perspective for everything that came after. So, so good.

  1096. vince d.

Super stoked to see deerhunter, devendra, beachhouse, the oh sees, ty segal.. kurt vile, mikal cronin and fricking mac demarco!!

Hmm why i should win? well, it’s either win these tickets or die trying to climb the fence and duck security.

  1097. Caleb

If Chvrches was really playing that would be sick! Gold Panda too!

Do you guys know something we don’t?

  1098. Miriam Aguilar

I’ve been working on my vocals with the help of Solange’s beautiful voice and would love nothing more to be singing along to her music. If I had it my way I would be her back-up dancer or back-up vocalist but one wish at a time….

  1099. Corey Nawrocki

Black Brad Pitt – Danny Brown
This song is hilarious and I can listen to it for hours on end and I’ve only been able to see it live once , but I’d love to see it again, Danny brown is my fucking favorite rapper right now!

I love his lyrics and all the references, I think

  1101. Alexx Rosas

My favorite hip hop song is “Drop It Like Its Hot” by Snoop Dogg and Pharell. They are amazing artists. The song has beats that make you lean left and right. Makes you get jiggy with it. The first time I heard this song I didn’t know who Pharell was but this song made me realize how talented he is. Till this day when I hear that song it has me grooving and bumpin. When it comes on I can’t help but turn it up and smile.

  1102. Fustin

Best hip hop song in my option is Slick Rick – Children’s Story. Slick was the first artist showed me how artist can be lyrical and how he told that story was raw

  1103. Cristopher

My favorite song is “La Di Da Di” by Slick Rick & Doug E. Fresh. This is raw hip-hop, just a beatboxer and a rapper on the mic, no fancy beats just straight lyricism. I’m also a huge fan of story-telling songs, and when someone like Slick Rick is doing his stuff, you can block out the world and imagine every scene. This is probably one of the most sampled and referenced song in the history of hip-hop as well which I think is pretty neat :)

  1104. Pat

Stan by Eminem because the imagery and lyricism in it is so profound and vivid and you can really feel this song. It tells a story that you can see through your own eyes. And for a hip hop artist to display that through a song is purely art.

  1105. Brianna

    Hieroglyphics Feat. Goapele
    “Make your move”

Make Your Move’a great example of what Hiero and alternative West Coast hip hop in general can be

  1106. jacob "master" Beaty

STEP INTO A WORLD- BY- KRS-ONE
KNOWLEDGE REIGNS SUPREME – OVER NEARLY EVERYONE

  1107. Ariel Devore

…half of my comment didn’t post … But at the moment my top song is Beautiful (Blackstar Remix) by Mary J. Blige w/Talib & Mos Def…. I can sing it all day long! ” ..from the start to the finish. Cause the vibe you give leave me so replenished. It’s a new beginning, this is serious business. Got my heart and soul in it. It’s the way that I’m living” ;)

  1108. Ariel Devore

As a lover of music it is extremely difficult to choose just one. My favorites range from Brother Ali’s Forest Whitiker, Macklemore’s Inhale Deep, Afro Classic’s Keep the Faith to Nujabes’ Lady Brown. I found some of my favorite quotes through Lupe Fiasco, Joe Budden, Lauryn Hill, blue & exile’s (my list can go on & on & on

  1109. PJ Summers

    Dear Santa,
I can’t wait on your fat ass for another 4 months so maybe Grimy Goods will answer my wishlist this year. I’ve been (a loose interpretation of) good and I would like to see thee oh sees, death grips, antwon, yyys (fo sho), melvins, flag, the Freakin LOCUST!, MGMT, and TV on the Radio. Now, I know that would be a stretch for an elderly, round man such as yourself but I believe that out there, Grimy Goods is just waiting to give some lucky little man, like myself, the chance of a lifetime seeing all of those bands in one location, along with a lot of other great bands. Sorry big guy, its over. I make my cookies for Grimy now. Say hi to your hedgehog wife for me.

    Love,
    Me

  1110. Kimi Juana

Choosing one hip hop song is difficult but I’d have to say an all time favorite of mine is Kendrick Lamar’s A.D.H.D., covering the everyday life routine of people in my generation on their working grind and the typical house party situation that follows the day shift, “hope to take the pain away from the feeling that you feel today, you know when you’re part of section 80 and you feel like no one can relate cause

You are, you are, a loner, loner,
Marijuana, endorphins make you stronger, stronger.”

Hope to be seeing this guy perform at RtB 2013!!

  1111. Colette

I would love to see MBV, Washed Out and Roky Erickson!!!! FYF would be the ultimate way to end the summer, please please please Grimy G’s!

  1112. REALLY NICE GAY

Forgot to leave a reason! Reason why you should pick me is because I’m broke and my bf won’t buy me a pass. I also want a reason to wear booty shorts this summer.

  1113. REAL NICE GAY

So I want to see Holy Ghost!, toro y moi, solange, devendra, YYY, washed out and definitely house meat disco!! Too many to list. Can you please pick me?! :)

  1114. Vanessa Cardenas

Notorious Big – suicidal thoughts, i can somewhat relate what he’s saying and going threw the whole thing… how i used to feel i would just wanna end life like “slits my wrists and end this bullshit”.. with hip hop i can relate so much to rappers storys ! from growing up in the hood, growing up to doing bigger and better things.

  1115. Vanessa nicole

so many great hip hop songs to choose from ! but the one song i always play is “Nas is like”. If only he was there this year at RTB. This would be my first year ! please help me out with the tickets. <3 !

  1116. Rosanne

MBV, The Breeders, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs–I love bands starring bad ass girls. Would love to go but as I am part of the 99%, I can’t afford the $99.

  1117. Jennie

Yeah Yeah Yeahs, MBV, Les Savy Fav, Yo La Tengo, Delorean, !!!, and Solange!
Because I took the train by there during the Hard Fest and it looked like a hott mess! And FYF is 1000X better! BUT it’s such a great venue for an outdoor festival like this, right smack in the middle of a metropolis like LA. it just feels kinda dreamy. Also, I hate beyonce but love Solange! would love to see the one with the actual talent perform.

  1118. Doug Linares

my favorite hip hop song is “Hip Hop is dead” by nas. I enjoy this song because i remember this was one of the first tracks i ever heard from nas and hip hop. it brings back so many good memories from junior high.

  1119. Karen Natividad

    Fave song is Mary j blige & method man’s you’re all I need… Cos I’m a fucken romantic.

  1120. Joey Banda (@SodaPerp_Curtis)

My musical consciousness is so vast, varying from EDM and Trap music to rock, r&b and a lot more. But being from LA, my musical roots stem from West Coast Hip Hop. Last year seeing Ice Cube and WC headline RTB in San Bernardino was so iconic, I could have died leaving the venue and would have died happily. At the moment, my favorite Hip Hop song of all time would have to be F*** The Police by NWA. Hip Hop, and music in general, is still a form of artistic expression. Dre, Ren, Eazy and Cube put their listeners in a court room and expressed their frustration with the racial discrimination they were all too familiar with. I dig the song so much because they switched roles with the corrupt judicial system where Dre was the judge holding the hearing allowing the rest of the group to give their testimonials on why police are wack. I find it cool because it addressed oppression so many were experiencing in LA. The track is well received not only because it was rebellious, which is an underlying quality in hip hop culture, but it was also a valid issue that needed to be addressed. It was part of a critical era in the development of the character of the genre’s culture.

  1121. Chris Kaye

I am remiss Grimy – I left my comment for FYF tickets on your facebook wall but failed to do so here. Alas. I am a poor fool. If you have it in your hearts to forgive me, please consider my plea to see My Bloody Valentine at FYF. I need a vacation.

  1122. Stephanie Gonzalez

My favorite song is ‘Smile’ by Eyedea and Abilities. The reason why is because too many people take smiling for granted, no matter how bad things I think you should just keep smiling and you’ll get through your toughest times. It’s just one of those songs that speaks to you whether you’re happy, sad, or anything really. Eyedea inspired me through this song, that no matter what I’m going through not to give up no matter how hard I hit the ground get back up and smile. :]

  1123. I.V. Arambula

I want to see Charles Bradley, Dan Deacon, Deerhunter, Les Savy Fav, Omar Souleyman, FLAG, Ty Segall and pretty much anybody else I can get to with out missing these dudes haha

  1124. Nicole Buchanan

Best hip hop song of all time in my opinion has to be hip hop is dead by Nas. His lyrics spread world to all the other rappers out there that they need to step their game up. Nas is legendary

  1125. Jay Ceras

I LOVE FYF Fest and would like to go this year to see 3 of my all time faves I’ve missed over the years MBV, YYY, and The Breeders. The line-up this year is my fave so far. Catching Washed Out, Beach House, MGMT, TV on the Radio, Deerhunter, STRFKR, Toro y Moi, Charles Bradley, Kurt Vile, Thee Oh Sees will be an amazing bonus and I would love to dance my ass off with sets from Simian Mobile Disco, Classixx, Poolside, and Delorean. Coincidentally, this year’s fest lands on the weekend of my 12th year wedding anniversary and I would just love to take beloved wifey again this year on the special day to see 2 of her all time faves, Beach House and MBV to close. The set times are out today and I wish I could catch so many acts, but set times overlap! ARRRRRGH! ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)

  1126. Jessica Lopez

There are a million songs to choose from but the on song that I would say that is my all time favorite is Dear Mama by 2Pac! There is so much meaning to this song! The message behind how as a young man he is able to see how much sacrifice his mother has done for her children. The importance of the message being that he loves her no matter what and though they had some tough times growing up at the end of the day she was still there to be the best mother she could be, showing her children unconditional love. The power of family is great, greater than anything in the world and she taught him that growing up and now he see’s that nothing being materialist can repay her for everything she has done for them, because that love is a gift that not everyone can or will ever receive. As well as having millions of fans that he has, everyone can relate to that song one way or another and for those reason I choose Dear Mama!

  1127. Keith Ferrara

My favorite song of all-time is Lost Ones by J. Cole. In this new era of
hip-hop lots of artists have lost the story-telling aspect that makes hip-hop
such a universally loved genre. Lost ones takes the very touchy subject of
abortion and tells the story of a couple struggling with their options as the
woman is now pregnant. This is something that happens nearly everyday but Cole
makes the story come to life for the listener. His first verse comes from a
first-person point of view and he explains how he wishes he could provide a
better life for the child that is on it’s way, and doesn’t want to run but he
sees no other option besides abortion. The second verse is what I think is so
unique: he switches the point of view to the woman who is pregnant and feels
betrayed and abandoned. However, he continues to speak first person. This keeps
the reader more emotionally attached to the characters cole has created and you
can truly feel their pain as they go through such a hard time. His tone of voice reflects the woman’s anger with the man for even thinking she would abort her own baby, all the more drawing the listenr in. The third and final verse comes from a third person point of view referring to the characters as “he” and “she” which allows the listener to reflect on the story. This format was all planned by cole, the song is produced by cole, and his lyricism truly makes the song a masterpiece of his own creation. The song came out in 2008 but he did not put it on a mixtape because he knew this song meant to much, and finally put it on his debut album in 2011. In an era where many feel like hip-hop is a lost art, J. Cole is keeping it alive and with a song like Lost Ones that is so lyrically and verbally meaningful, it’s hard to argue that this is one of the best hip-hop songs of all time.

My favorite hip hop song of all time is is Born Loser By DMX. Its my favorite Hip Hop song of all time because it was one of the 1st Hip Hop songs i had ever heard and it blew my mind. I’ve been a Hip Hop head ever since. I love that song so much i spent a year or two trying to locate The Born Loser Album. I know every word to that song by heart. This song and DMX are the reason I love Hip Hop today. Hopefully I get to go to my first ever R.T.B.

  1130. Angel Segura

My favorite hip-hop song has to be Common- I used to lover H.E.R. This song has a lot of meaning to me and is relevant today. Common states the history of hip-hop in just one song from the freestyle to west coast & gangsta rap. The beat is also another thing I love about the song it compliments the lyrics and flow so well. His analogy of hip-hop being a woman is dope too he incorporated that throughout the whole song. He captured the essence of hip-hop before it became watered down & commercialized. That track is a classic in my eyes and rock the bells brings hip-hop to the fans who love the culture. Respect from the west coast!!

  1131. Lizzy Lizard

I have too many songs to pick from ha but my favorite is Soundtrack to My Life by Kid Cudi. I like this song because it explains a lot of what he’s been through. Life is tough and has it’s troubles but he makes the music for the people who are going through tough times too. People who can relate to him too. People are so quick to judge someone or their life but they shouldn’t unless they’ve actually walked a mile in their shoes. And ya life is going to bring you haters but you just say “hater shake my hand but I keep the sanitizer on deck” ;) #iwanttomarryhim

  1132. Karyna

My fav hip hop song has got to be 1997 by Dom Kennedy. This song just gets me turned up everytime i hear it! Aint no day i dont ride around in my car and bump it loud! Dom is one of the realest rappers cant go wrong with any of his songs! Hope i get to win tickets to RTB and have a chance to see him do his thing on stage!

  1133. Cristian Mendoza

There is so many amazing Hip-Hop songs that it is impossible to choose from, but if I had to choose my favorite song it would have to be The Pharcyde – Passin’ Me By! That song is not only classic but it is like the definition of Hip-Hop! A close second would have to be The Lords of the Underground – Chief Rocka! If I could get the tickets, it would be the best birthday ever!

  1134. Jer

Man that’s tough choosing one. Either gotta be CREAM by the WU or one mic by Nas. CREAM is that classic hip hop that first got me turned on to hip hop. And then Nas is just one of the greatest.

  1135. Samantha taylor

“Explosive” by Dre has to be near the top of my list. Aside from it being played so frequently, I have an appreciation for how many people in SoCal know and love the song so everytime it comes on, everyone is so happy to sing along. It brings out the gangster in all of SoCal-ians. And who can’t appreciate some Nate Dogg thrown in there? It’s just a good classic that everyone loves to get down to!

  1136. Daniel Rene Contreras II

Favorite hip hop song of all time hands down Gang Starr – Above The Clouds (Feat. Inspectah Deck). My cousin and I first stumbled across this gem when we we’re both young as hell watching an old skate video “Sorty’s: Fulfill The Dram”. On this dude Steve Olson’s sick ass part they dropped that shizz!! We both got fuckin’ HYPED!!! It was outta hand!.. Such a good memory. Ha! The beat from beginning to end is unbeatable though, and don’t even get me started on the bars… The type of shizz I’m down to shout!! All around FYA!!! Still till this date! One of the first hip hop tunes that opened my mind up to the whole genre as well!!! Ha!

  1137. Ben Garcia

best Hip-Hop song of all time would have to be an uplifting positive song because we need alot of that at a very dark & negative point in our Lifetime. It’s really bad in my city Pomona Ca. rite now, check the news 3 more killings all in one nite leaving 3 people dead. The tention between Afriacan & Mexican Americans is only getting back to that serious fatal 80′s era. Sometimes I wis I could just save every 1 with a song but for me that woud be a Hip-Hop track because that’s whhat interest & captivates me. With all the bad things goin on across the world I want all people to feel a connection truly as one & come together to enjoy Music positively. So for me it would have to be Krayzie Bone’s Perfect Day oof The Fixtape series Vol. 4 Under The Influence. “If this is jus a Dream, let me Dream what I dream Let me See what I see Let me Be what I wanna Be”

  1138. Olivia avila

Oh awesomeness!!!! I would very much love to see the YEAH YEAH YEAHs! MGMT and HOLY GHOST!

This would be the beat anniversary present for my husband ever! I be always wanted to take Him but when I was able to get tickets he was going to be deployed to Iraq… He turned me to the band, and this would just be too awesome!

  1139. Margarita

I desperately want to see My Bloody Valentine, Omar Souleyman, Horse Meat Disco, Glasser, Chelsea Wolfe and Yeah Yeah Yeahs and would love to take a friend who is to broke to attend.

  1140. Taryn

Upset! UPSET is: Ali Koehler (guitar, lead vocals), Jennifer Prince (lead guitar, vocals), Patty Schemel (drums), and Katy Goodman (bass). I’ve missed Ali Koehler post-Vivian Girls and Best Coast. What the hey has she been up to? And PATTY SCHEMEL OF HOLE. How did they all join forces?

  1141. Jasmine Teran

I want to see Chelsea Wolfe, Devendra, !!! and all the comedians. And I should go because my international vacation was cancelled and now I have two weeks of vacation time to take and no plans to fill it with.

  1142. Karen

I’m most excited for beach house, devendra banhart, and toro y moi. I should win the passes because it takes me forever to sneak in every year and I miss all my favorite bands

  1143. Diana Tran

Hi Grimy Goods! I would love to win tickets to FYF fest to see the yeah yeah yeahs, tv on the radio, mgmt, toro y moi, nosaj thing, beach house, flume, and foxygen. I wasn’t able to go to coachella because of school, didnt make it to hard, and couldn’t afford outsidelands. I think it’s time for my luck to turn around so I can atleast see all these artists at FYF! Thanks :)

  1144. B-Doc (@_BDOC)

My favorite hip hop song of all time would have to be Crossroads by Bone Thugs -N- Harmony because of the way they all can sing and synchronize then can just spit a raw flow is amazing. There is nothing out there like Bone Thugs and they really were mean’t to be the way they all work together it blows my mind. Everytime this song would come on, a smile comes upon my face. This song really is something special and still makes me smile to this day. Bone Thugs, Black Hippy, Kid CuDi, and everyone at this festival is going to be great! I really would appreciate these tickets and hope you guys at GrimyGoods choose me to go to Rock The Bells this year please! Thank you guys for the opportunity as always, you guys are awesome and if I do win this would totally make my year to go to Rock The Bells!!

  1145. Jessica

if I win these tickets I will stop watching Keeping Up With the Kardashians and re-runs of Jersey Shore.

  1146. Maria

I’ve never really had a music festival experience (now seems imposible to afford it) and just having Karen O, Kevin Shields and Victoria Legrand in the same place, makes it an epic experience and a dream to me.

  1147. Eric Rowen

My girlfriend and I have been going to FYF Fest for the 4 years we’ve been together (it’s kind of a tradition at this point) and this year is the first time we can’t afford to go. We both finished grad school in May and having a bit of trouble finding that full-time work we were expecting.

It’d be a dream to see Joann’s punky idol Karen O on one night and then MGMT the next – jamming out to “Kids” together was one of those experiences that sealed the deal on our relationship status back in the day. Besides TV on the Radio, Deerhunter, Beach House, !!!, and Ya La Tengo, whom we already love, we know we’ll walk home on Sunday night with at least 5 new favorite bands… FYF always has a knack for picking the winners!

Also, if I win the ticket, you guys can after-party at our place :-P. It’s only a short walk away from the park!!! Thanks for the opportunity – Grimy Goods f*ckin’ rocks!

  1148. Oscar

You should interview Big Black Delta!!
Ask them how they got together, how they feel on their recent success, and what are their plans for the future?

  1149. Oscar H.

I am EXCITED to see Foxygen, Death Grip, Poolside, MGMT and Yeah Yeah Yeahs! Y’all should give me a free pair of weekend passes because I have been with GG since the beginning, I have NEVER been to FYF, it’s a great way for me to explore much more music out of my usual collection, and why not! Please and thank you!

  1150. Fonz

Daaaaamn.. This is crazy!! I’ve spent the last two days going over my selections but it’s just too overwhelming. I’m all over the map as far as Hip-Hop goes.. I got mad love for more recent artist like Black Hippy, Joey Bada$$ and so fourth but to choose a “favorite” song, one single song, I feel like I gotta stick with a classic. I wanna mention a well known HipHop anthem or new school track but I feel like that’s too easy..

*** Rap Phenomenon – Biggie Smalls feat. Method Man & Redman ***

I’m gunna leave it at this. I feel like these were times when HipHop was fun, raw rap skills over beats that make your head nod. These are all artist of my youth so I like Biggie, along with Red and Meth but Dj Premier was who swayed the vote.. I saw him at Rock the bells ’10 and he’s my favorite producer by far!

    Thanks for the opportunity!

    To whom it may concern:
Next was “Underground Airplay” by Joey Bada$$ ft. Big K.R.I.T and Smoke DZA
Followed by “Real Hip-Hop” by Das EFX
and “Flava In Ya Ear” (Remix) took 4th

  1151. Greg C.

Grimy, I am beyond excited to go to FYF this year – that is, if I win the tickets allowing me to do so! I’ve only been to one other FYF (2010) and I think it’s high time I made a return. Really hoping to check out some of my faves, like YYY’s, Holy (fucking) Ghost, Toro Y Moi, Poolside, and Mikal Cronin….can’t leave out FLAG and The Melvins either …..just to name a few. There’s nowhere else I’d rather be next weekend so please hook me up! Thanks GG!

  1152. Andrew Rittenhouse

“The Prayer” by Kid Cudi is the best hip-hop song of all time. “Have you ever heard of some s&#* so real”? This song is poetry. “Beyond from the heart, from the soul you can feel”.. “and if I die before I wake, I pray the lord my soul to take” This song takes me back to when i lost my close friend Madison every time i hear it. Truly it was a ” blessing in disguise”

  1153. Cristina M.

Hey GG! There are so many acts I would love to see at FYF, but I most need to mention Poolside, !!!, and Holy Ghost (all of whom are playing Sunday). Those 3 bands are among my absolute favorites and they never fail to impress me live. Seeing them in a festival setting with thousands of other people will be an experience like no other and I would love the opportunity to do so – especially all in ONE day. My dancing shoes would get a workout like they’ve never had before! Of course, I would also be stoked to see YYYs, Classixx, Beach House, TV on the Radio, Ty Segall, Kurt Vile, Charles Bradley, Simian Mobile Disco…just to name a few others!!

I’m most excited to see both My Bloody Valentine and Simian Mobile Disco! I’ll leave it up to chance and hope for a W!

My all time favorite Hip Hop song is without a doubt “I Can” by Nas. I was born in 93 so it’s no surprise that I didn’t get into hip hop til I was 9 and that is when that song dropped. And when I was first getting into Hip Hop, this is the very first hip hop song I really got into. It took a while for it to really grow on me and to really understand the lyrics and when I did understand the song and the whole meaning behind it, it easily became my favorite hip hop track. Nas became my first favorite artists, I bought “God’s Son” as soon as it dropped. I’m a aspiring singer/songwriter and I started singing and writing at the age of 11 and this song was such an inspiration to me cause Nas just spit the truth! It motivated me. The first verse of the song is written on the first page of my rhyme book and I always read it over before writing a new song.. When people start to doubt me, I always quote the chorus, “I Know I can.. Be what I wanna be.. If I work hard at it.. I’ll be where I wanna be.” It’s my favorite cause it’s the first hip hop song I got into, the first hip hop song that inspired me, and it’s a great song. It has a lot of meaning to me. I hope you choose me cause a lot of artists that inspire will be at Rock the Bells. It would be a great experience.

I would LOVE to see My Bloody Valentine and The Breeders! I’m a product of the 90′s!! My husband and I need a full day of awesome music, kid free style!!

I was born and raised in Southern California–Compton AND Long Beach to be exact (now you know you in trouble)–so the natural choice for me would be “Nuthin’ but a G Thang” by Dre and Snoop. The “Chronic” album was my first introduction to hip-hop, and at 4 years old “Nuthin but a G Thang” was the first song I ever memorized. The beat.. the verses.. straight West Coast flavor. You can’t beat it. That entire album embodies my childhood and I will forever hold a special place in my heart for the “Chronic”–both literally and figuratively speaking :)

I have wanted to see M83 for so long, but every time they come to town something comes up and I’ve had to sell my tickets or miss the show altogether. I do not want to miss this opportunity! And I would love to see them perform with the LA Philharmonic; I’m sure they’ll bust out somethin crazy from the Oblivion soundtrack!

  1160. Carlos Gomez

I was a casual fan of M83 before when I saw them at Coachella a few years ago. Then I heard their work on the movie Oblivion, where they were coupled with an orchestra – it was phenomenal. They’re music was so good it made me like a Tom Cruise movie. TOM-EFFIN-COCKTAIL-CRUISE! That’s a Herculean feat for me to enjoy any movie of his post-Magnolia. This show I feel would be in that same tradition but better because they’re cranking out their own jams backed by oboes, cellos and triangles. I would simply love to see this. Thank you, drive thru.

  1161. Arin S.

M83 AND Phantogram!? With the Philharmonic?!? This is one amazing night no one should miss, regardless of your taste in music! Especially at one of the best venues ever, Hollywod Bowl. The date better hurry up, because we’re dreaming. :)

  1162. Valeria

Would LOVE to have this be my first Bowl show this summer! Perfect summer night dance music. Need to have a grown up night out with my husband!!

  1163. Derek (@xDerek)

I’m still kicking myself for not seeing M83 at the Disney Concert Hall with the LA Phil. This would totally make up for it! This would also be my chance to confess my love for Sarah of Phantogram.

Hard to choose i would have to say one of my favorite hip hop songs would have to be Murder was the case by Snoop Dogg simply because not only does Snoop just have insane flow but also the controversy behind it that everyone says illuminati its pretty genius to write a song the way he did. Also what really draws me in is the beat its just really put together every space is filled but its not over the top. Dr Dre is just an amazing producer hence why he was a dj before but thats what i like about Dre he really knows how to make music and make it sound clean. I make music for fun and i know how hard it its to make it sound so on point so thats why i really like this song also how long ago it was made early 90s that shows how it was the birth of the hip hop scene. Anyways that is my answer it was hard to choose i will never have a top song but that is one off the top of my head. I would love to attend RTB it would be a dream to see Bone Thugz n Chase and Status i have been waiting years for them to come back they put on a hell of a show. Thanks for taking the time to read this :D

    “Classic”-Dj Premier ft Rakim, Nas, & Krs-One
Rakim: “Ask the teenagers, OG’s and ask the kids
What their definition of classic is
Timeless, so age don’t count in the booth
When your flow stay submerged in the fountain of youth”
Nas: “Oh you went platinum, yeah that’s nice
Now let me see you do the same thing twice
Three times, four times, then a couple of mo’ times
Please, you’re Amateur Night, it’s Showtime”
Krs-One:”Instead of broadcasting how we smoke them trees
On the radio we need to hear more local emcees
Where you at?, c’mon where you at
This is the difference between emceeing and rap
Rappers spit rhymes that are mostly illegal
Emcees spit rhymes to uplift their people”

I’d like to see Glass Candy, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Devendra Butthurt, and Glass Candy. You should give me tickets so I can take my spoiled girlfriend out. Hopefully she’ll find another guy there, or at the very least we’ll lose each other during a concert and I can have some time to reflect on the state of my life.

Joking aside, I’d most like pass these on to my sister who just started high school and has not yet discovered the darkness of reality. I stopped hearing the music a long time ago. She’ll enjoy it though. She likes music.

Please Send me to experience my first R.T.B
    Lets face it Hip Hop Culture has had many banger’s throughout the years & everyone has experienced this movement in different ways. I love each & every part of hip hop from west coast to east cost, mainstream to underground, & corporate or independent. Its all AMAZING in my eyes. I’m a proud supporter of the movement always reinventing itself, I feel Hip Hop is my religion & will forever stay true to it. Hands down in my 14 years of Hip Hop growth I have never found an anthem to show more LOVE to Hip Hop then in;
“I USED TO LOVE H.E.R”-COMMON SENSE
“LOVE OF MY LIFE”-ERYKAH BADU ft COMMON
but arguably my favorite song would have to be by
    Dj Premier ft Rakim,Nas & KRS-ONE
    “CLASSIC”

Touche amore, everyone else is a bonus. All I want to do is pour my heart out for as long as their up and shout at the top of my lungs to their songs. I’ll count the hours having just one wish, if I’m doing fine there’s no point to this.

Best hip hop song of all time? Ah there’s plenty…. Personally mine would be Can it all be so simple by Wu-Tang because we’ve all been through tough times and back then in the days some of us even living in poverty and barely making enough for food but still seeing that light at the end of the tunnel. Now and days things just get more difficult. Deaths of our loved ones caused by diseases, gang banging, shootings….. Can it be that it was all so simple then?

  1171. JDS

My favorite hip hop track of all time? too easy. C.R.E.A.M. by the Wu-Tang Clan. It was Summer of ’94 and i was chillin with my cousin Eric at my aunt’s house and i remember him throwing that shit on and me hearing WTC for the first time. I was blown away. The way they talked. Their GRIMY! and aggressive style of rhyme dumbfounded me. The way they used words with double meaning but it somehow made perfect sense every time. WTC had “swag” before that was even a word. Can honestly say I dont remember what i listened to before that. I dubbed a copy of that tape (what you kids know about that?!?) that same night and remember listening to it every morning on my way to 7th grade. It was my introduction to a whole new world and culture that has become a part of my everyday life. #CashRulesEverythingAroundMe #HipHop

  1172. Katia Hovsepian

My favorite hip hop song is Above the Clouds by Gang Starr. Everything about this song is perfect, and it has one of the best beats ever. Guru is just phenomenal with his opening lines. Also, getting Inspectah Deck for a guest verse was a very smart choice :)

  1173. Kyle Meisch

It’s always been my dream to see MBV live. I thought I’d never get the chance, and to be honest, without winning these tickets I still may not get to see them. But if I do win, I’m excited to visit a friend of mine in California to go see MBV, Washed Out, Deerhunter, Beach House, and many other bands. That would be my dream. :)

  1174. Franchesco Ramos

I might have to give it to De La Soul’s “Pass The Plugs”. A definitive song of the group, of the native tongue and of alternative hip-hop. This is has to be one of Prince Paul’s highest moments with the group in terms of production. This song exudes the “hippie sound” people and critics gave to De La Soul, while the group raps about battling this image. “First P is passed, I am known as…” Beautiful rhythmic flow throughout the song that changed from verse to verse. One of De La Soul’s finest moments from their masterpiece album, De La Soul is Dead.

  1175. Tommy Owens

I will have to say “Cali-O” by Too $hort. To me, the song is not just about smoking marijuana; rather, it perfectly captures the California culture and honestly makes me happy and proud to live in arguably the most popular state in the United States. I love California.

  1176. Nathaniel Williams

Best Hip-Hop song of ll time was Changes By Tupac.. 17 years later and that song is still so relevant!! Just everything He says in that song is timeless and it’s all done over a classic beat.

  1177. Chris Avila

The best hip hop song of ALL TIME, is Juicy by Biggie Smalls, It has everything you want in a hip hop track, a good message, great beat, and dope ass lyrics, biggie is the best rapper of all time and this is his best song, his flow and word play on this song was bananas, when this song come on you cant help but smile and sing along it will never get old and will live on forever and ever.. Its All Good Bay ba baaaby!!

  1178. John Martinez
