Hello again Rolling Stones! Saw you first time Jan 12 1963 at the EALING CLUB! Wish I had known about the Lucky Dip Tickets sooner! Always telling my Musician son about that experience. I predicted then that you would become a Legend Mick and wow was I ever right! We got as far as Congratulations you can now buy a ticket and then those terrible words we didn’t want to hear SOLD OUT. Anyway, good luck tonight! If you get a chance while you are in SAN DIEGO check out La Jolla where I live. It is a really lovely little village. All the best. Anne

I am currently going through a very stressful midterms quarter, and winning these beautiful tickets would bring light upon my poor soul. I am especially excited to be able to drink stouts from my favorite brewery STONE and the delicious 800 degrees pizza.

  3. Garrett b

Gotta try that @doomies Big Mac! And looking forward to big things coming from King Harbor!

  4. Antonio Lardo

Looking forward to the Lagunitas brewery and Doomie’s for food. 😀 NOM NOM NOM

  5. Kel

Spiritualized had a decent set, but it was hard to pay attention because all the children waiting for Lame Impala wouldn’t shut up.

  6. Kel

I was there. It was the Primal Scream show. The girl in Los Robertas had incredibly annoying stage banter.

Hi! I’ve actually never had vegan food or beer, but I have friends who are vegan, so what better day to hang with them?
The grilled cheese truck sounds tasty!
And I’m sure any of the beers would do.
    Cheers!

Food from Rabbit Hole & IPA from 3 Weavers… and music from Jamestown Revival!

  9. Katie B

Fascinating article; Hit on many key points. Blending the way she enunciates and seems to mimic a near convulsion state; blended with eroticism and…obvious “bat sh** crazy tendencies. While keeping the lyrics simple and appealing to the masses. Although the quoted lyrics from the song “Adelaide” remind me of a couple different songs by Avril Lavigne. Looking forward to seeing her in concert this month!

Ive always wanted a pair of vans but never could scrape up the money to buy a pair I would promote this website if I ever get the pair I don’t really have alot of money so it would mean alot if I got them

  11. james st james

wish there was more descriptions on the bands actual music, instead of their “performance” I attend festivals like this cause of the quality of music, don’t really care for bands who put too much into performance and not enough into learning to play and sing properly, hows it different than beyonce and co? doesn’t seem like underground music/DIY is any different than the mainstream machine.

  12. Dan Lafferty

This was a great performance and she is truly a talented artist! I even got the “paper plate” set list. Great review Mark and great photos Monique.

Weird that they decided to do the new album in it’s entirety. They did not do this at any of the Wiltern shows. I went to all three. it was much more a mix of old and new.

  16. Vinnie Boombatts

I can’t imagine what it must be like for a band to come back after such a long hiatus and have to play in front of “concert audience 2.0″ – everyone standing there with their phones out like robots. I was at one of the Wiltern Theater shows, paid the extra $30 to get down in the pit, but the ‘pit’ was anything but. Just a bunch of phone-holders – some chick right up front was eating fucking NACHOS. Good for Patton to spit into someone’s face. That’s some punk rock shit.

Record Store Day was fun! And way better than spending cash on Coachella. Oh and Jake is a chode. Who the fukc enjoys whining and bragging and cutting in line?! A chode does.

  19. Sandy

It’s just content, Jake. But feel free to continue “whining and bragging”. To each their own right? You do you. And we’ll do us.

  20. Jake Weirson

I love your site and I’ll be a reader for a long time, However it gets really old reading articles about how I should or shouldn’t behave or I’ll be labeled a douche bag. Being a music fan/lover should be about the music, not worrying about if you look like a douche bag because I like to whine, brag, or cut in line. I personally enjoy whining and bragging and if someone is dumb enough to let me cut them in line they kind of deserve it. Anyway that’s my rant for the day. I’m looking forward to more articles about concert etiquette in the future.

  21. June Caldwell

Thanks for the tip, Lunch Money Lewis at the Satellite killed it! New full touring band, new material catchy, soulful, accessible and sincere…Bills is the new “Happy”. Meghan Traynor announced she is going to release a cover of it, her challenge will be to improve on LML.

  22. katie

    3) Minus the Bear

I just want to mosh pit under the stars with these great bands.

  29. Perla Martinez

Desert Rat local, this event is going in our own back yard, it’s exciting to see these bands rolling through our town. I’m hard working valley girl and it’s tough to go to a lot of these festivals. Due to the weather out here our electric bill keeps rising and it difficult to spare $20 let alone $55, home girl has to survive. I’ve a big fan of Deap Valley and would love to see them live. Thank you grimy goods for putting on this contest. Best of luck to everyone who enters!

I would love to see Death Cab For Cutie because it would just be cool to win something! And, of course, they are so awesome!!

  32. Callie

Keri Cavetone of The Ex-Bombers and Cavetone Records!!!!!!!! Have you seen her drum in a mini dress? It’s amazing. Her body positivity is inspiring.

  33. Sandy

@Angie – Awesome. I’m glad you understand where we are coming from. Sorry if I came off a bit fierce, I rarely chime in on comments, but this one struck a chord. Cheers.

  34. Wyatt

This is a great list. I love the variety from underground bands to indie to mainstream. Not sure why so many people are bringing up drummer from the past that don’t even drum anymore. It’s clear that this is a list for today and not an “best drummer of all time”.

  35. angiescarpa

Hey Sandy… After reading your well put reply I have to recant. You are right! I guess my comment came from the same place as your statement “because they are always singled out in this male-dominated industry”. I just get tired of the “good for a girl” crap that I hear all the time. and having men give me “pointers” or whatever. I always say being in a band of women is a lot like shooting pool in a bar. No matter how many times you kick some guys ass on the table they always feel the need to give you a little advice on your game. Thanks for your great site and forgive my 7am bleary eyed crankiness. :)

  36. Drummer

To Angie Scarpa: You make it seem
like this post is something negative. When it’s not. I’m a female drummers in a well known band and I agree with Sandra’s lomg comment. Women in music have always been a minority. We still are. But we’re growing. Articles like this raise awareness about us and open eyes to people that may have never known about us. You’re clearly missing the bigger picture.

  37. Angie Scarpa

Fuck this list. While everyone on it is great and deserves props.. They are great drummers.. Period.. It’s 2015. Can you imagine a “best male drummer” list or “best white drummer” list. Sexist crap

  38. Sandy

@Angie — You, know… I’m so sick of drama queens such as yourself that take anything positive and turn it into something negative. Especially when it comes to sexism and feminism. Lately, it seems like so many people want to make issues bigger than they truly are, just to seem like they are a part of something. Well, I’m a woman. This is my site that I created seven years ago from nothing in an industry that was run by men. Since day one I have spotlighted women in music. This is a feature I helped create. Have you ever thought maybe we just wanted to showcase female drummers alone because they are always singled out in this male-dominated industry? No, you prob didn’t think of that. Because you have nothing better to do with your life than to “cry wolf” via the Internet. It’s like Mark Kozelek said, “There is an epidemic of people being ‘offended’ by things as some kind of hobby…” And to those people I say, GET A LIFE. Ain’t nobody (female or male) have time for your bad energy.

No Mo Tucker on a list of “bad ass” female drummers. She’s only the prototype for all who followed her. Nice bullshit-ass list. I only hope no one gets paid for this type of destitute mental retardation.

  41. Kathy

How about two female drummers in one band? Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse from Skating Polly are really great. Valerie Agnew from 7 Year Bitch. Georgia Hubley from Yo La Tengo.

  42. Ryan Ricci

    Chelsea Wolfe
    Deap Valley
RJD2- Been the soundtrack to so many good skate vid parts.
    Thx for entry.

  43. Ciaran O'Hagan

Patty Schemel is by far the best dummer on this list! Listen to any live Hole track…especially Whose Porno You Burn/ Asking For It (Reading Festival 1995)/ Burn Black!!!

  44. nigel

well i just found a buncha new bands to try out :) chics rock and rocker chics rock even more 😀

  45. Bethany Domiguez

For those complaining who should be in the #1 spot, don’t you people read?!?? All the drummers are ordered alphabetically. Very awesome list by the way.

  46. Julie

how about Lynn Truell, Sister double happiness and imperial teen. She rocked live. Lori Barbaro should be #1.

  47. Stephen Katz

Zoe Brecher, formerly of Total Slacker, now with her girlfriend performing as Brainfreeze. I know you left her off because you probably hadn’t heard of her, but now that you have, you need to.

  48. Laura NUnez

I think you all forgot to mention Stephanie Bailey of the Black Angels! Also….Maureen Tucker of the Velvet Underground wasn’t too shabby. I know there are more amazing female drummers out there…But geez, maybe create a top 25?

Actually I know a drummer who is the star of the band never overlooked and always fun to watch and listen… must check her out Joana Moon Bonham aka Joana Rubio of Stars At Night Keith Moons reincarnation!!!

  51. Sam Greeney

Good variety. It’s nice to not just see the names from the biggest bands or the ones on youtube playing covers. To all of those asking “how did blah blah blah” not make it on here!?” Simple: it only went up to TWENTY. These lists are allegorical people!

  52. Jason Silver

Carla Azar’s best work was with Ednaswap 1996-1997. Pretty solid choice for number 1.

  53. MARK H

I can’t believe you haven’t listed Denise Dufort from the all female rock band – Girlschool. Also I know the White Stripes are not together any more but I think Meg White should still have got a mention.

  54. Stephen

amy Eileen wood! She’s the greatest. The donnies and the Amy’s, Fiona Apple, Quincey blaque trio, Conway, big black delta. She’s amazing.

  55. Clemente Espejo (on FB it's Antonio Lardo)

My top three favorite Desert Daze artists
    1. The beautiful Chelsea Wolfe
    2. Warpaint.
    3. The Budos Band

  56. mathilde menusier

How can NISENNENMONDAI’s Himeno Sayaka possibly not make list? Please tell me, I’m dying to know.

  57. Bobby Vega

Mindee Jourgensen currently of Peach Kelli Pop, and affiliated with The Mod-Pods, Dangerously Sleazy, GNARVANA, And many more. She’s a force. She came to LA from Utah and just worked her ass off in different projects starting around 2008.
Also…Lia Braswell from Le Bucherettes and Peter Pants. Holy shit! How did you forget her. Damn she’s one of the best regardless of gender.
Rachel Fannen, she’s been in a few bands drumming but mostly sings. But damn she destroys on drums.
Laura Velez of Manhattan Murder Mystery, is the hardest working drummer in LA. She is playing constantly and driving from hella far for it all. Never complains about shit. She just does it cuz she loves it. That’s rare. And she can adapt to any style.
And most recently Jana Jordan who has become the drummer of my band GNARVANA had been waiting this whole time to be acknowledged as a serious musician. By far the most driven, and reliable person I’ve worked with in years, her ability to learn is that of a 9 year old boy who knows the ins and outs of every video game ever. She rips. And the fact that she’s famous for other stuff, just adds to her mystique.

  58. Nik Havert

Stephanie Bailey from The Black Angels is one of the best drummers out there right now, male or female. She’s the band’s secret weapon.

  59. elvis contreras

I need to win. I haven’t had a weekend off in 3 months. Please help out a working student.
Warpaint, minus the bear, bass drum of death.
    Please!!!!

  60. Benjamin Bradwell

Fay Milton kills. She’s the first one to come to mind when I saw this headline.

  61. Sandra Dominguez

What about Phanie Diaz of Girl In A Coma and Fea? That girl wails and can at least out drum some of these girls here . As a matter of fact I saw them tour with Coathangers and she’s equal if not stronger to Stephanie .

  62. matt

If we’re talking style you cant beat Poni from the Ettes. The drummer for The Nots is pretty great too.

  63. Steve Winot

Cecilia Kahn of FRIGHTWIG?????? Lynn Perko Truell of Imperial Teen????

    mighty big exclusions.

  64. Jennifer

GREAT list. But, I feel Danielle Haim deserves a spot here. While she’s mostly a singer and guitarist for Haim, she also plays the drums. She’s played the drums with many bands on tour, including the Strokes and the Killers.

  65. Andrea S

Hey Grimy Goods! I would love to go to Desert Daze to see

Finally! It’s nice to see music getting into GoPro! Looks like a lot of fun! Hope to see more Grimy Goods!

  74. Ryan

Rad! I had no idea a GoPro could do all this. Surprised at how well the sound quality is. Good to see them doing stuff with music. It’ not all about action sports.

  75. Vanessa Garcia

I wanna win tickets to Death Cab for Cutie tonight because I need a reason to ditch class!

  76. Paula Livas

Sweet! Only 3 weren’t on my list, Charles Bradley, St Paul and Ryn Weaver. Hopefully the schedule Gods allow me to catch some of these acts! :-) 7 more days!!!!

  77. Kevin Halim

I would love to see Death Cab for Cutie as they have been my favorite band for years now ever since my high school days. I’ve followed them since their Trans days, and they honestly got me through my nights as a stressed-out high school student. I am going to be overseas for the next few months for work, and this is my last chance to see them in the States. Grimy Goods, please consider me for the show! I would forever be grateful for this opportunity

  78. Fred

You should definitely award me a pair of tickets to this show because I am forever indebted to Death Cab For Cutie. You see, I have been with my girlfriend for exactly 10 years today, and it all started with our first date to see them at the Wiltern in 2004. We haven’t been able to catch them recently and we will be out of town when they come back in July. It would be incredible and priceless to say the least…

  79. Jason Silver

Would love to see Death Cab for Cutie because they are Seth Cohen’s favorite band!

  80. Valerie

I have loved DCFC for many years..im a huge fan of their early work and cant wait to hear their new stuff!

  81. Bethany Domiguez

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT SXSW IS ALL ABOUT! I had so much fun just dancing in the streets. Will you guys be doing a Bonaroo video? Hope so! Would love to ve in it.

  82. Jimmy Jo

I would call off from work to see my biggest and favorite band of all time. I love DCFC and they make beautiful music.

  83. Michelle Hazuda

I think I should get tickets because I am a super dedicated fan. I’ve seen Death Cab 19 times to date and I’ll be seeing them at least another five times this year. They’ve been one of my favorite bands for the past 10 years and are inextricably woven into the fabric of my life. I can’t listen to certain songs without remembering particular events and places and I can’t remember particular things or visit certain places without thinking of those songs. They get me through good days and bad days and all the days in between. I know I’ve seen Death Cab a lot already, but each time is still special and magical to me and I never get tired of seeing them play. So please pick me!

  84. Rochelle

Would love to go see Death Cab because I recently moved here and have been having a hard time adjusting. Concerts are usually how I meet people/keep my spirits up but since I’m unemployed, I haven’t been able to attend any yet.

  85. Thomas Goff

Quite honestly, Death Cab For Cutie has been a band I’ve followed since the beginning. Quite honestly, whenever they have been in town for a gig, I’ve either had work or some other prior engagement. By some miracle, this show does not interfere with anything in my life. It would be an absolute honor to see Death Cab For Cutie.

  86. Cristine McClure

To be able to see Death Cab perform live for the first time in such an intimate setting would be an incredibly unique experience, as I would be hearing familiar songs from a totally different perspective. Also, my friend Wayne would never get over seeing one of his all-time favorite bands at iHeart.

  87. Alex Carrera

Hi Grimy Good! I’d love for a chance to get tickets to this show consider Death Cab is playing on my birthday at The Hollywood Bowl and I won’t be able to make that show for a band I love so much! Thank you

  88. Michelle mendez

omg I’ve never seen death cab in a concert, the closest I got was at outside lands and it wasn’t a full set! Please give me these tickets so I can finally see these boys and able to cry in joy!!

  89. ranay

I wanna win because i am dying to see what my favorite band sounds like now with the absence of Chris Walla. Please pic me!

  90. Venusian Broxx

One of the main reasons as to why I just moved to L.A was to go to Boiler Room. Im a polymathic artist from Chicago. I’ve been to just about every dope underground spot in my city except for Boiler Room. Help a starving artist out!

  91. Paula Livas

I would love to see them live since I missed their set at Bridge School 2006 because my sister made us late by taking an hour to curl her already naturally curly hair!!! Agghh! Please Grimy Goods, HELP ME get my universe back in alignment!

  92. Megan

When I was younger I was obsessed with Avril Lavigne and Good Charlotte, a friend’s older sister burnt me a DCFC album and I was forever changed. It would be amazing to see them live since they were such a big part of my life.

  93. Jon Hanka

I would love to win tickets to the death cab show! They’re my girlfriends favorite band and it would be a great surprise to take her to the show since she’s never seen them live.

  94. Dakota Wingate

I have been a fan of death cab for a loooong time and have yet to see them live! Being new to the area, this would be a great welcome to la prize! :)

  95. Agueda zarate

Seeing them live has always helped me emotionally re-set. I desperatly need that reset before summer starts. I have been a huge fan for over a decade now and I still have not been to the iheart radio theatre, there would be no better way to experience this venue than with dcfc!

  96. Kevin Silva

I would love to finally take my sister to see them since I always take my mom (she’s such a hipster).

  97. Lalena

Can you think of a better way to spend your spring break than with Ben Gibbard and co.? A week in Cancun has nothing on “We Looked Like Giants.”

  98. Natalie Steffes

To those of you reading this:
Death Cab for Cutie has undeniably changed my view of the world. I have the deepest respect and admiration for their work, and over the years, their musical has left a lasting impression on the person I am today. I would be beyond ecstatic to see them perform at the iHeart Radio Theatre. Thank you, Grimy Goods, for such a unique opportunity to see my favorite band. Please consider me for the tickets! I would be forever grateful.

  99. Jacob Genzuk

I think you should give me tickets because Plans has helped me deal with two incredibly difficult things in my life.

    (1) It helped me deal with a very difficult break-up, with a girl I’d been with for many years. I had the album on repeat for days on end, and eventually listening to lyrics like “I cannot pretend that I felt any regret/Cause each broken heart will eventually mend” helped me move on and recover (and now I’m happily engaged!).

And (2), it helped me deal with my fear of death. I have spent most of my life fearing death not because of the act itself, but because of the truly unknown nature of what comes after. The idea of an infinitely nothingness, of oblivion, is just so prodigiously terrifying.

Ben has said, of “I Will Follow You into the Dark”:

“It’s just this idea that what if somebody dies and we’re just floating, just stumbling around in infinite darkness, and I’m just trying to find some kind of spiritual kind of peace with myself, and the world.”

The afterlife remains terrifying, but the idea that we could still at least be conscious of the forever of nothingness is somehow comforting.

  100. Ryan

You didn’t forgot the aspect of “not sweating your balls off in 100 degree heat when you could see the same band at an indoor venue in the weeks before, during, and after Coachella.”

  101. Cnd

Thanks Sandra and all for your comments. I find it interesting that people going to Coachella care what you think about how women look there. Your attitude ssems to be quite contrary to what this event is all about. Namely that we shouldn’t be judgemental of the way each other look but be tolerant of our differences because we live together, hopefully happily.

  102. Paula Livas

Are Body paint and nipple pasties a do a don’t? I say don’t and my hubby says DO! And a group of girls all sporting the same hat in black or brown makes me giggle. A lot.

  103. Sandy

Actually Rachel, it was not his daughter. There is no need to mention who’s kid it was as it’s none your business. It was just an “adorable” moment. You’re welcome.

  104. P. Lee

PLEASE PICK ME! I’ve never been to any music events before. My life is pretty boring now. I wish something exciting will happen. Me and my girlfriend stay home and watch game of thrones. Please pick me. We like to drink and get turnt too.

  105. Jamie Bryant

My top 3 Foo Fighters songs would have to be:

    3. Learn to Fly
    2. Hey, Johnny Park!
    1. Everlong (both the loud and the not-so-loud versions)

  106. Sheila Hansen

I’m sorry I entered a few times, I didn’t see my comments so I tried again and again. I’m sorry! I’m sooooo excited I need to calm down and wait and see what happens. Please disregard the additional emails. Thank You!!

  107. Sheila Hansen

    This would be super amazing!!

  118. Franchesco Ramos

I have to say, my all time favorite has to go to Otis Redding. The power and soul behind that man’s voice in his very short but legendary career can’t be compared to.

  119. bruce tate

My favorite is a tie hope that doesn’t disqualify me. Isaac Hayes & The Emotions , Isaac produced their best songs while they were there, and He himself was a towering musical force.

  120. Don Egan

It ‘s hard to pick one artist with label that has Otis Redding Albert King Booker T And MGs the Staples singers Sam and Dave Rufus and Carla Thomas Since it ‘s a Thursday I ‘ll say Booker T and the MGs because bring the studio ban for most the artists on the label they were most the records

  121. Randy Saex

Hi Grimy Goods. My favorite Stax artist is the amazing Otis Redding! I am enjoying your articles and website!

  122. Andrew Sewall

Favorite Stax artist has to be Otis. I remember the first time I saw his Moterey Pop Festival performance on DVD. His performance of I’ve Been Loving You Too Long is legendary.

  123. Tyler Johnson

    Grimy Goods,
Please hook me up with some Stax swag! I was raised on Rufus Thomas since I was a kid. Otis and Booker T. are on my sound system constantly, but these days my idol and cure for all ills is Albert King. If you give me the shirt and the records they’ll likely never come off my back and sound system, respectively.
    Your Soul Brother,
    Tyler Johnson

  124. Maryanne Window

I love so many of the Stax artists and I could try to be clever and choose someone less known but
Otis Redding is my ultimate fave. I even named one of my first bands after him!

  125. Leo Mason

Would love to add this to my collection of wax. Otis Redding is one of my favorite artist. I have a couple of crates of the old wax music and this would be the icing on the cake.

  126. Alyssa

My favorite Stax artist is Booker T and the MGs. They were the heart and soul of that company and shaped the sound of so many of the artists!

  127. Matt Nielson

Stax rules. My favorite Stax artist is Rufus Thomas and Otis Redding. Keeping my fingers crossed for this giveaway. Thanks!

Thing is, this tattooed beard model vogue is approaching its due date. It’s just another spin on a familiar motif – the mid-20s/early 30s guy with a swimmer’s build, a bit of body scruff, and (in this latest incarnation) heavy tattoos and a long beard (and long hair, in contrast to the popular CK-model crewcuts of yesteryear). But as you said, it’s a fashion beard, and an optional one at that. These guys look even better without them, to go by their pre-beard pics (especially Ricki). So once this saturation of beardliness starts to die out – soonish, as all trends have an average lifespan of about 5 years – the model thing will still be kicking around, just more, erm, non-neanderthal looking.

  136. Dan Lafferty

Great site. I enjoy reading the stories along with, of course, the giveaways. Must be a great environment to work every day.

Hi Fifi, thanks for pointing that out. Both bands were indeed established by the time King Congo joined. I made sure to make the correction above. Thanks again!

  140. Fifi

I ADORE Kid Congo Powers, but he was NOT a founding member of The Cramps, neither of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds! Both bands were well established when he joined.

  141. Javier Garcia

  170. Kristin G

I would enjoy a pair of Vans because I haven’t been able to afford them for a few years! People in middle school and high school used to always identify me by the Vans i wore. I’m pretty sure my feet miss Vans and vice versa.

  171. Dale

Vans are the only shoes I wear! I try to put them through the ringer, but they are so tough. Even when they are beat to hell and are essentially socks with soles, I put my vans on but the look like sneakers.

I would love to get some custom shoes.

  172. Chrissy N.

I prefer the Skytop IV White and I deserve a pair of this best and fresh incarnation because I’ve been good all year long and I need a new pair for winter and spring semester coming up real soon! THanks!

  173. Chrissy N.

I should awarded a chance to create a custom VANS shows because I have been good all year and I really want this!

  174. Megan

I’m a graphic designer, and what better way to show off your design skill then to put it on a shoe! I would love to be able to design my own pair with my own style!

  175. Carolina G

The white Sonos speaker looks fresh! I would probably listen to some FKA Twigs first. LP1 was one of my favorites this year.. fingers crossed!!

  176. Anthony D Rivera

Once upon a time; there was this boy and he got these magical shoes from this witch doctor These shoes were so fly that people were after them. The boy was chased day and night endlessly. He was tired scared and alone. One day he decided enough was enough. He shoot the witch doctor a text thanking her for the gift of the most baller shoes in the world but told her the power was too great for this envious world for of poser, haters and perpetrators. She gave him the wise words that in this world “You better check yourself before you wreck yourself”. He replied to her words of kindness with “Either they don’t know, don’t show, or don’t care about what’s going on in the hood.”. So the boy went to Mt.Doom and did the one thing he could do, throw the shoes in the volcanic fires below, sadly one casualty was made by him doing this, as one THOT, backpacker, swag kid jumped into the fires to try to snatch the shoes burning alive with the shoes his last yelling words echoed out “SWAG TO DEATH MY NIGGA!”. The boy walked back home and never had baller shoes ever again…… until if he won this contest. The end?

  177. claudia castaneda

I love my Vans .. I wear them everywhere I Go .. They’re worn out to the core .. I’ve washed to keep ’em looking Fresh n New .. But I’m so sad to say that I can’t wear them anymore. I need a few new pairs .. A new set of colors and designs. I’d buy them myself, if I had the $$ .. It would mean so much more to me if I’d win them instead .. I’ll take such good care of them .. They would last longer .. I’d Go More Places, Just To Wear Them Everywhere I Go ✌

  178. Gilbert Quintana

I would be happy and thankful with either color. White or black, it does not matter to me. I would blast Calvin Harris’ new album Motion, along with many others.

  179. Josie Garcia

I would blast BadBadNotGood’s III album on repeat on the black Sonos speaker! This album has been on repeat for the last couple of months.

  180. Duane Larson

I would be bumping Inc.’s “No World” album for hours & hours. I hope that I win the BLACK SPEAKER.

  181. Ramiro Cardona

I would blast Lord Huron’s album “Lonesome Dreams”. The color I would chose is the white one. I want to be innovative! haha “By music lovers for Music Lovers”!

  182. Bryan Molero

If I won the Sono speaker (which I’d love to get in black) I would bump FKA twigs LP1 because of its standout production which would sound beautiful on these Sonos!

  183. K.C. Douglas

The first thing I would bump through a new Sonos speaker would definitely be the Beastie Boys’ ‘Check Your Head,’ my all-time time favorite album. Would love to hear tracks like “So What’cha Want,” “Pass the Mic,” and “Gratitude” through Sonos high quality hi-fi.

Just getting a new audio setup put together after the holidays and a new black Sonos speaker would be the perfect addition. Thanks for the chance and keep bringing the Goods in 2015!

  184. Maral Mahmoudi

I would play Arca’s Xen – full album while hanging out in my back yard 😛 using the black speakers

  185. K.C. Douglas

The first thing I would blast through the Sonos speaker would be the Beastie Boys’ ‘Check Your Head,” my all-time favorite album. Would love to hear tracks like “So What’cha Want,” “Pass the Mic,” and “Gratitude” bumping through Sonos’ high quality hi-fi.

Would love a black speaker. Thanks for the chance and keep bringing the Goods in the new year!

  186. Carlos Parga

I would most definitely bump that new D’Angelo album. After 14 years since his last release, his new album puts him right at the top of the R&B game. Thanks for the opportunity to win. I would choose the white speaker. Hope I win!

  187. Marcus Montemayor

Honestly, all my shoes are fucked up from the concerts I attend. I just need a new pair to start the new year so I don’t look completely homeless! Haha

  188. shelly m

I have never been able to afford a pair of customs so this would be a dream come true..
    fingers x crossed

  189. Joey B

The one thing my uncle asked of me after being gone for 7 years was to get him a pair of ‘classic vans’…I screwed up Grimy Goods. He opened the box and disappointment overtook his face. I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to redeem myself. Even though i need a pair, PLEASE let me create a new classic for my uncle, and simultaneously restore my honor in being his nephew lol

  190. Emily F.

I definitely need a rad new pair of Vans. I’ve worn out the bottoms of my Vans slip-ons so bad that when I walk it looks like they’re talking. The sole separates from the shoe.

  191. Frankie Tirado

This would be the sickest! I immediately thought about how I’d design my customs, and they look so brilliant, it would be a shame to NOT choose me as the winner… just sayin’. Cheers!!

  192. Carmen Solorzano

I would love to win this pair of shoes because being the devoted single mom that i am i always spend every penny i have on my little one. These would come in handy for my little feet :)

  193. steven guerrero

my shoes are getting really worn out, with holes everywhere. I need a new pair since i don’t have the money right now to get some

  194. missaye

I’d love to win a pair of VANS because they have been my brand since I was a kid and to be able to have my own customized pair would be the bees knees!

Please make my holiday wish come true, please. kthx!

  195. Carolsue

I followed on Facebook – Carolsue Andeson and on Twitter as @Sillysiamese
I would like to get the shoes for my son: SUPRA KIDS VAIDER IN BLACK/WHITE – PAINT DRIP (size 11 UK). I would like to win these because we can’t really afford super neat shoes like this so he would be thrilled to have something better than his plain old tennis shoes he usually gets stuck with.

  196. Will Franco

I would love to win these free vans because It would be the perfect gift for someone I know. I would customize them myself knowing what she would like on them :] it would be a perfect way for me to start off the new year, giving away something I won! Thanks! Hope I win (and not for my own sake) haha!

  197. Endless Meghan

Since I was a wee lass watching the cool kids on their skateboards while on my trike I’ve wanted a pair of checkered Vans. I’ve come into many shoes, but those have always eluded me.

  198. Emily

I didn’t purchase an xmas gift for the guy that I’ve been dating for 12 years. But to be fair, I’m pretty sure that he hasn’t bought me anything either. We’re horrible about buying gifts for each other in general – birthdays, xmas… and most certainly not that sad excuse for commercialism – valentine’s day. Its not like we don’t do stuff for each other or buy each other things. I promise though that if I win, I wouldn’t keep the shoes for myself – they would go to that guy, because I guess it might be nice to experience receiving a gift on or about a socially appropriate day of the year once in a while. Also, maybe even more awesome than the gift would be not having that awkward exchange with people where they’re like: “So what did your (bf/gf/person) (get/get from) you for (xmas/b-day/v-day)?” and where you’re like “Nothing” and the other person pretends to understand but really they’re secretly judging you.

  199. Salvador

    Hi!
i would really like wear the black supra shoes because they are very comfortable to skate and i can make more easily tricks.

    Thanks!

  200. Salvador

Hi! This is the five songs that will be on my first RDIO playlist

    1. The smiths – There’s a light that never goes out
    2. The coral – Bill Mccai
    3. Creedence clearwater revival – fortunate son
    4. The cure – love song
    5. The datsuns – mf from hell

  201. Beatriz Barajas

Id love to win a pair if vans customer shoes because those are my fave brand if shows. I go way back with Vans and brings back rad memories from my time in high school. I would love to be able to customize a pair to keep design to make more memories with. vans shoes rock!

  202. Michael Hillson

Vans are an iconic part of California culture and I’m embarrassed to admit I’ve never owned a pair. Customs are the best of all as I get to design them myself. The shoes I have on are disintegrating as I type this and are probably doing my feet more harm than good. Hoping to turn this all around thanks to another cool Grimy Goods contest…

  203. Michael Hillson

    Hammer Run.

The shoes I am currently wearing are being held together by will power, nothing more (well, maybe a little Shoe Goo). I am in dire need of new kicks and the Hammer Run style is a vast improvement over my boring NB’s. Happy Holidays!

  204. Claudine Garay

Who doesn’t love getting a new pair of shoes? More importantly free-new pair of shoes. The only brand of shoes I wear is Vans and would love to add another pair of shoes to my already two pair collection! :)

  205. Dayna Brisco

My boyfriend got me hooked on the Hunger Games about a month ago. If I won, I’d love to give him the black Supras!

  206. Angelica Baird

I think the white ones are pretty sick. The design is great and manages to look badass yet classic.
I would love these because I think they’d make an amazing outfit piece. These would complete any fashion statement and make any outfit pop. I just love the geometric design of them!

  207. Carolina G

Would be so rad customizing my own shoes!! What an awesome way to express your personality/creativity…hope I get to flaunt a pair of these this upcoming year.

  208. Danielle Dauenhauer

Since my skull-filled checkerboard Vans went to shoe heaven earlier this year (that’s a thing, right? I don’t want to conceive of a world where my shoes’ final resting place is a garbage heap in New Jersey), my feet have been woefully unadorned with the brand of kicks I find most conducive to my awesome concert going California lifestyle. “Why, shoe gods, WHY have you not seen it fit to put another pair of Vans (perhaps in the colors of the California sunset like Weird Al wore in that one album insert…Poodle Hat, I believe),” I have screamed in no particular direction more than once in the past few months. Perhaps this contest, THIS glorious distribution of textiles and awesomeness, is what I’ve been shouting for all along!

Or maybe it’s just a contest I’m entering on the internet. I don’t know. I’d really like some shoes, though. GRASSY ASS!

  209. Darren Duque

I really like the white pair. I’ve always been a huge fan of the Muska ever since I saw Fulfill The Dream. He’s a huge inspiration for me and he’s definitely one of the most iconic skaters ever. He always has the sickest parts and he’s always stylish as hell doing it. I’ve been wearing Muska gear forever and I’d be so down for pair of Supras!

  210. Tiff

I dig the cuttler. Just like music, you can never have enough shoes. I would love to start the new year off with some awesome new shoes.

  211. Janelle

I would love a pair of those white Supra kicks because they are so sweet! My birthday is on Tuesday and I think the best place for these would be in my closet. Love all that you do, GG! Best wishes in the coming year.

  212. Krishna castro

The five songs that would be on my first playlist would be:
    Partition-Beyoncé
    Love fool- The Cardigans
    Chinese fountain- The Growlers
You make me so very happy- Alton Ellis
After the moment – Craft Spells

  213. claudia castaneda

I love the Supras .. No color preference
if I win I’d love to give these shoes to my dear sweet niece.
She is a Huge fan of the Hunger Games. Her name is Ariella and in the 6th grade.
I know she would appreciate them so much.
This would be an Awesome surprise for her

  214. Fernando Islas

i dig the black supras, the wings look awesome. and i actually originally ‘liked’ your guys page a year or two ago, I forget exactly when but you were having a supra giveaway! so, i’m hoping this time around i’m able to get ’em! :)

  215. Carlos Parga

Just entered the Supras contest and now another awesome contest! I looked through the photos of all the photographers and I must say that Monique Hernandez is the truth. Love how she captures an image. She gets my vote. Hope I win. Good luck to all those who enter.

  216. Carlos Parga

Katniss Everdeen is my favorite Hunger Games character. I should win these Supras because what better way to start off the new year than with a fresh new pair of kicks. Stylish, innovative, and truly fashionable. Thank you for the opportunity to win. Hope I’m one of the lucky winners selected.

  217. Anne Marie Schiefer

Definitely so new to me albums on here I am going to need to check out. Love seeing everyone’s picks from the Grimy Family!

  218. Chris

Lovely article! Minor correction, though: the balloons were tossed by the crowd during “I’ve Had it Up to Here” at the lyric “Don’t want to end up with as much edge as a balloon.”

  219. Gohi

Thanks for the enthusiastic review! However, the balloons were actually released during “I’ve Had it Up to Here” and they were definitely not standing on their amps. Great photography and perfect description of the acoustic set.

  220. Bernadette Gonzales

It would take me back to my youth! Class of’95. Oh and gish was one of the best records ever!

  221. joselhin romero

Please pick me because the very first time I saw Dillon Francis was in 2013 and it was the best set I ever heard. I was new to moombah and trap music so at first his songs sounded different but I fell in love with it! Dillon always posts funny pictures on Instagram and shows what he brings to his shows that I would love to experience. This would be such an amazing Christmas Present!
Thanks for the opportunity to enter this contest!

  222. David Brown

One of the best songs of the year is Left Hand Free by Alt-J??? Come on guys. Alt-J have so many other awesome songs. Left Hand Free is a catchy radio single trying to get Taylor Swift fans to listen to Alt-J. You can do better.

  223. Ryan

Great selections. Would have love to seen Fly Lo’s album though! You guys got him on your best songs though. So that’s cool.

Music on White Russian Vinyl, and Pizza. Heck yeah, I’m in. It would really tie the room together.
My fav line…”The Dude abides. I don’t know about you, but I take comfort in that. It’s good knowing he’s out there, the Dude, takin’ ‘er easy for all us sinners.” –The Stranger

  271. Zach Evans

My first instinct was to say “The Man in Me” because that song immediately brings back memories of that amazing opening title sequence in the bowling alley. But then I remembered that this soundtrack introduced the Gipsy Kings’ cover of “Hotel California” to the world, and that’s a damn fine song. So I’d have to say that’s my favorite song from this soundtrack.

When I moved out to LA many year ago I went bowling at Hollywood Star Lanes, where they filmed the bowling alley interiors (it’s gone now). It was open 24 hours a day, such a great place. Ordering a beer at the same bar where The Dude and The Stranger talked… well, it’s up on my list of greatest LA experiences.

  272. Alex

The Dude: It’s like what Lenin said… you look for the person who will benefit, and, uh, uh…
    Donny: I am the walrus.
The Dude: You know what I’m trying to say…
    Donny: I am the walrus.
    Walter Sobchak: That fucking bitch…
    The Dude: Oh yeah!
    Donny: I am the walrus.
Walter Sobchak: Shut the fuck up, Donny! V.I. Lenin. Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov!
Donny: What the fuck is he talking about, Dude?

  273. Emily Lamberson

“You want a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don’t wanna know about it, believe me.”

And my favorite track is Kenny Rogers- Just Dropped In. I used this in a little movie I made with my friends when we were 16 years old. It was a Vietnam war scene and it was pretty awesome; I love this song and the whole soundtrack so much!

  274. Ray San 3rd

    “SHUT THE FUCK UP DONNY!”
(btw, this is an impossible movie to pick a fave quote from. It is full of gems!!) can i just post the screenplay here?)

I wanna win that pizza (and that vinyl) – but come on, Bacon Cheeseburger pie?!!

“Man In Me” is my favorite track. And let’s see. How does one pick a favorite line from Lebowski?? Well honestly, ANYTIME I do something stupid or something gets messed up (even if I’m by myself), I’ll say —
    “YOU SEE WHAT HAPPENS, LARRY?!”
    So probably that.

  279. Chris

the big lebowski made me reevaluate my opinion of kenny rodgers – it’s positive now.

    also:

    “i got a rash, man”

  280. Carlos P.

My favorite line is when he says “Nobody calls me Lebowski. You got the wrong guy. I’m the Dude, man.”

  281. Edward Averill

    Favorite Line:
Police Officer: Do I make myself clear?
    Dude: I’m sorry, I wasn’t listening.
Police Officer throws mug at Dude’s face
    Dude: OW, FUCKING FASCIST!

Nice to see these photos, because I have to say — where I was forced to stand in the balcony, you couldn’t see the stage expect by holding your phone up over your head and using it as a periscope. I will not be returning to the Regent Theater again, that’s for sure — what a terrible place to see a show!

That’s was The most annoying mosh pit ever. A bunch of kooks just pushing people around and running away when someone pushed back. I even saw one dude constantly pushing girls very hard. I wanted to clock that drunk frat boy. Epic show.

I haven’t seen these guys since 2005. They ripped my ear lobes apart and I loved every fucking second of it. I agree with you on the sound levels. That was a bummer but it didn’t stop me from rocking the fuck out. Awesome pictures and review.

I cant beg more than others but my wife and I would celebrate our 15th anniversary. We met Dave and his wife with his little girl about 5 years ago at cirque D soleil in Santa Monica. He came over and took a photo with me my wife and two kids. He said “this is a great Christmas card”. If this message gets back to him, he would remember. Thats the best story I have. Thanks for hearing my message.

You should pick me because I’m the kind of fan they would want. I know every word to every song, but I don’t care where they live or what they drive, or what they like. I’d be there to rock out, not to be on TV. I’d be there to feel the music, not because I want to meet the band. And if I met the band, I’d say “Thank you”, instead of “Can I have your autograph?” There for the love of the music alone. So yeah. Pick me, if you want something real.

  366. Bec Brigham

She has also used the name Odessa Jorgensen; I’m on a hunt now to listen o any music she has out under that name.

Hi Sandy…..recall we went to see Metric at HoB SD years ago and the drummer was actually hitting on me at their after party???? Hahahaha……
Hey you have details on the Ryan Adams pre-sale for the SD show? I would like to get great tickets/seats for this show. Been wanting to see this guy live for quite awhile now with no luck….Hopefully you can make this happen…

    Hope all is well!

  519. Rock Photographer

Must be blind. Missed the injury. What was that again ?
“Almost trampled to death” c’mon this is clearly tongue in cheek. If not … then
again where’s the photos ? I want to see those post hardcore wrestling hit by a table bloody pictures ?

  520. Ryan

This so called ROCK PHOTOGRAPHER must be a real idiot or just plain blind. How does “photographers not capturing the action because the action was getting in the way” correlate to a photographer being injured? The show was a heap of fun. I’ve also done my searching for photos on this show and couldn’t find any but a crappy review from LA Record. Photos were okay, but nothing to brag about. Just another so called ROCK PHOTOGRAPHER ….

  521. Rock Photographer

The people with the zoom lenses are called photographers.
You being “OK” with photographers not capturing the action because the action was getting in the way means nothing to the viewers of the pictures.

  522. Sandy

Hey “Rock Photographer”, why would our photographer bring a long (zoom) lens at a venue we cover shows at every week and there’s almost always a photo pit where you’re in arm’s length from the talent? We have a name for those kind of photogs… Not to mention, she was in pain. Maybe there weren’t any “inspiring” photos after getting pummeled in the first 30 seconds of her shoot? Duh … As the post mentions “being pulled by her hair into the pit, chunks flying out and just about had her camera broken”. I own and run this site and I’m totally okay with any of my photographers bailing when their body and / or camera is in jeopardy. Thanks for your inspiring input, “Rock Photographer”.

  523. Rock Photographer

Shouldn’t a “photographer” have a long (zoom) lens. Also the sides of a concert stage are good places to get close without injury. Most people do respect at these shows.
Sadly the pictures for me are uninspiring anyways and really don’t capture anything –
LIKE THE WILD TIME THAT WAS BEING HAD ! WHERE’S THE PICS OF THIS CRAZY CROWD ?

  524. Danny Baraz

Mark. I’ve never seen such a negative reaction to such a positive review. This is becoming an Art Garfunkel type of reaction. Not sure how a paragraph about Khan takes anything away from my second paragraph about how rad you and your band are. No matter how much you cry and bitch about you guys actually being a “band”, it won’t change the fact that I covered you as such. I wish we could go back in time and prevent our photographer from being hurt so as to protect your delicate sensibilities and deliver a more complete review but rather than ask how bad her injuries are, you continue to hammer home that you seem to be experiencing a reaction to Khan’s individual popularity.

I offered a sincere interest to interview you individually or with Khan, not to placate you but to show you that we have a genuine interest in what YOU do and how much we love your BAND but you seem to want to carry this on and play some type of victim role. Sane people make lousy rockers so… rock on my brother. All this notwithstanding, I can’t wait to see you next time you are in town. I can love your music, even if you don’t like me or my style.

  525. Kelvin vasquez

I been a fan of A trak since when i was in mexico . A trak is my favorite da i also love when he is duck sause. i don’t really understand why i am a ‘diva’ for hoping a ‘journalist’ would watch and listen to a band as a band. insult me all you want, but i gave my all, as i do every show. as does khan. and the band relies on the both of us as a unit to make the music we make, which you purport to enjoy. this isn’t ego. or me wanting to be in photos. this is a two person band, easy to frame into a photo, so simple you can hear both members’ personalities. the band wouldn’t exist without me and conversely without khan. we are a band. hate me or love me, i don’t care. i just want my band to deliver you rock’n’roll and energy that makes you feel something.
    thanks

  544. Jessy

Sooooo much fun! I too saw the Tweets. LoL. I don’t know why BBQ was so fussy. The review totally talks about him! And it’s funny. No photos of him sucks tho. But so does a broken camera and getting your hair pulled.

  545. Danny Baraz

Thanks brother Mike! I honestly don’t know how I could’ve been more complimentary!!! I compared the dude to a less satanic version of Misfits era Glenn Danzig!!! Quitcher bitchin and take the compliment fucker! I enjoy the attention though :)

  546. Mike M.

This show was insane! I had a wild time. BTW – saw your Twitter beef with Mark Sultan. Not sure what he’s crying about because I thought the review was awesome and totally entertaining. Love this band and love both Khan and BBQ. Mark, you rule! Don’t be diva

  547. Pumpkin Spice Yahweh

One of the sweet parts of this festival is the use of smaller (true) local bands mixed in, which you don’t get at fests like Coachella and Bonnaroo. Look out for Rusty Maples, Sabriel, Moksha, and Ekoh.

I must say, I and the three teens I brought to the show did not enjoy the opening act. As you noted the awkward presentation was just awful. But whether it was ironic or just cluelessness, making a big fuss about the father’s in the crowd and then the dedication…for a song that in the first two sentences are Your childhood is over and your Dad is dead from a gunshot.

    Seriously?!?!?

My Sundance roommate introduced me to Stromae’s music. We worked with a cute guy who said he was open to music recommendations, but when he listened to him he immediately shot back with an “And people complain about not being able to understand my music.” (Metal.) The roommate just saw him the other night in Colorado, so it’d definitely be fun to sit there and gush about how amazing in concert he is when we all meet back up in Utah in December! 😉

yes….i’m quite late. but….i’m hoping that you might take pity on someone who just literally saw this five minutes ago…..

my fave George song is What Is Life (the first 45 i ever bought) and I would be very excited to see Brian Wilson

  634. Kevin Campos

“WAH-WAH” is my favorite song by George Harrison!

I am most excited to see Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys!

  635. Max Goldblatt

I have this deep love for the muscular track “Ski-ing” he did with Eric Clapton on Wonderwall Music.

The lineup is so all over the place, but I mean that in a cool way. I’m curious to see which song Britt Daniel will be tackling.

  636. MoeV

Sadly, lukewarm reactions at the whiskey are all too common. It’s almost embarrassing. Outside of MSG, that stage is the holiest of holies in the world of rock venues, IMO.

  637. Elliott Marx

    Grimy Goods,

I already entered but forgot to mention that I would be most excited to see Dhani Harrison play his father’s music. Dhani has such integrity and his preserving dad’s legacy with dignity.
My favorite Harrison tune is Blood From A Clone.

  638. Elliott Marx

My absolute favorite George song is a rarity, Blood From A Clone; which is on the Somewhere in England album from 1981. But, I really love dozens of them – I have been a major fan my entire life and sadly, tickets sold out so fast, I tried to but tickets both times.

  639. Kate Mickere

Hi Grimy Goods! My favorite George songs is Let it Down. Would be most excited to see Dhani Harrison, Weird Al & Norah Jones.

  640. Tammi Vaughn

I love all of George Harrison’s songs, but as a child of the 80’s nothing puts a smile on my face like “Got my mind set on you”. Reminds me of cruising around in my mothers horrible yellow Cadillac Cadillac de Ville- it had an 8-track player.
I’m excited to see Dhani and Ann Wilson and Nora Jones and Brian Wilson and Weird Al and … everyone!

Thanks for the opportunity. You guys rule.

  641. Emily Calhoun

Hi Grimy Goods!! My favorite George Harrison song is “Here Comes the Sun.” Such a magical little song. I would be most excited to see the ever so wonderful Wayne Coyne ( A fellow Oklahoman.) I loved George Harrison and would love to be apart of such a special event!

  642. Jessica Stell

My favorite George Harrison song is While My Guitar Gently Weeps. However, it’s a very tough choice considering “Something” is my ringtone and All Things Must Pass is very special to me also. I’m a HUGE George Harrison fan and I would love the chance to be able to see his son, Dhani Harrison, pay tribute to his father. I would also love to see Wayne Coyne, Brandon Flowers and one of my favorite bands, Jamestown Revival. Fingers crossed! :-)

  643. Matt Kessler

Behind That Locked Door! Such an amazing song.

Excited to see Britt Daniel, Brandon Flowers, Ryan Miller and Wayne Coyne!

  644. Andie Mitsuda

So hard to choose just one! But I’d say “What is Life” is one that I never get tired of. I’m excited to see EVERYONE! …especially Dhani (and I’m curious to see what Weird Al has up his sleeves).

  645. Aaron

Of all of these tribute shows in recent years, by far this has got to be the damn coolest one ever. Just an unbelievable line-up. I would feel very privileged to attend (especially as I may not be going out to shows for a long while after my new baby arrives next month!!). Crazy to have to pick a favorite song, but I love “Art of Dying” and “Beware of Darkness.” Super psyched to see Brian Wilson (never seen him), Britt Daniel (Spoon was amazing at Hollywood Forever), Wayne Coyne, Ben Harper, Ryan Miller, Norah Jones… and Weird Al, what!?!

    Peas ~

  646. Justin Irvine

My favorite George Harrison song is While My Guitar Gently Sleeps and I am excited to see Britt Daniel! Thank you so much for doing this. Grimy Goods are the best!

  647. Lynnette Marshall

Hi Grimy Goods! My favorite George Harrison song is Something. I’ve loved it since I was a little girl, and if a guy dedicated it to me, it would be a guaranteed panty dropper :) I’d be super excited to see Brian Wilson, Wayne Coyne, Nick Valensi, and Weird Al!
    Thank you! xoxo

  648. Kathy Flynn

Favorite George Harrison song is “I Got My Mind Stuck on You.”

I am a huge Butch Walker fan so am most excited about seeing him, but am also excited about Brandon Flowers.

  649. Fawn Testa

Hi Grimy Goods! Favorite Harrison song has to be “What Is Life.” That song has so much energy and soul, and it ALWAYS makes me think of the film GoodFellas. And I would be most stoked to see Brandon Flowers and Nick Valensi. It would be unbelievable to go to George Fest!

“As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.” ~ Henry- GoodFellas

  650. Margarete Villalobos

One of my favorite George Harrison songs is ‘Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth).’ I would be super stoked to see Brian Wilson, definitely an artist on my music bucket list!!

  651. Ricardo Santiago

My favorite Harrison song right now is “All Those Years Ago” and I’d love to see Big Black Delta!

  652. Alissa Whelan

This might be my lucky day? What a stellar lineup and amazing tribute. Wayne, Norah, Brian… Yes please.

  653. Richard

Oh! I just read that Erin girl’s comment! Wow, really girl? Like anyone cares you’re a stylist or whatever. Pretty sure credit on blogs and magazines only go to those who create the written feature and photos. Unless you’re and A-list celebrity worth mentioning…

  654. Richard

I really prefer this new Sunset Strip and the new SSMF than opposed to all the crap bands that the Strip has become known for. It’s prime was in the 70s-90s and bookers just did not keep with the times, kept living in the past. Great review and photos!

  655. Matt Nielson

Hi Grimy Goods, My favorite George Harrison song is Beware Of Darkness and I would love to see Brain Wilson

  656. Sonia

Favorite George Harrison song is Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth). Quite an impressive list of artists paying tribute to George, super excited about Brian Wilson!!!! c’mon!

  657. Matt Nielson

Hi Grimy Goods. My favorite George Harrison song is Beware Of Darkness and I would love to see Brian Wilson. Thanks for the chance to win.

  658. Rachel garcia

Hey Grimy Goods! My favorite song is Fab, it would be a pleasure to go to a fest to celebrate and honor my favorite beetle George Harrison. I’m really want to see Nick Valensi from The Strokes becuse he has awesome guitar skills like the one and only George.

  659. Ismael Loya

Grimy Goods! This is your best ticket giveaway to date! My favorite George Harrison song… SO MANY… Toss up between “The Inner Light” and “Isn’t It a Pity”. Each song demonstrates George’s unique strengths in songwriting and guitar work. “The Inner Light” shows his mastering of the Indian Sitar sound while “Isn’t It A Pity” showcases his beautiful slide guitar work.
The acts I am excited to see are the great Brian Wilson, The Cold War Kids, Norah Jones, and George’s son Dhani Harrison. The eclectic lineup at this show is evidence of how George’s music of spirituality and love has influenced artists throughout the musical spectrum.

    Thank you, Grimy Goods!

  660. MSM

I would die and go to heaven if i won these tickets. Favorite song Isnt it a Pity and super excited to see Weird Al and Ann Wilson. Thank you Grimy!!!! xoxoxoxoxxo

  661. Dimitri Smith

Hi Grimy Goods! My favorite George Harrison song is “Piggies” from the White Album (the harpsichord is so triply and cool!). Also, I’m most excited to see Wayne Coyne at the festival. I think the Flaming Lips owe a lot to George. Thanks so much for doing this and I really hope I can go! Grimy Goods is my favorite website.

  662. Nancy Yip

Best George song is While My Guitar Gently Weeps ….the way he makes the guitar cry on this song is amazing… Would be amazing to hear someone great do this live! Excited to see Nick Valensi and hopefully Beck makes a special appearance!!!

  663. Monique Lopez

What an awesome show! I would love to experience this! My favorite George Harrison song is, My Sweet Lord. It totally reminds me of my ex but in an absolute good way. Excited to see Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Weird Al. =)

  664. Axel Ramos

Favorite George song…SOMETHING…. Theres just something about the way that song moves me. Attracts me like no other … HUGE STROKES FAN! So excited to see Nick Valensi!

Thanks for this contest! Hope I win!

  665. Alexandria

My Sweet Lord, hands down. I’ll be partial towards Something for the rest of my life for nostalgia reasons.

Excited to see, um, everyone. Weird Al? The Killers? Brian Wilson?

  666. Ryan Clark

That lineup is awesome! But I’d be most excited to see Britt Daniel, Nick Valensi & Brian Wilson. My favorite George Harrison tune — even though Dylan technically wrote it — is “If Not For You”. Harrison’s version will always be top in my book – even played it at my wedding when my wife walked down the aisle.

  667. Michelle Cuenca

My favorite George Harrison song has to be Isn’t it a Pity and I would love to see Dhani Harrison and Norah Jones!!

  668. Charlie Walker

…oh yea and im stoked for Ann Wilson, Jamestown Revival, and those special guests!!! And Jameson, duh 😉

  669. Charlie Walker

My favorite song by George is, although tough to decide, has to be ‘Here comes the Sun’. It’s spanned generations and will hopefully continue to. And with “winter” right around the corner here in LA, there’s nothing better than some hot (but not too hot) sunshine. It’s alright.

  670. Amanda Goodrich

Favorite GH song: What is Life

Most excited to see EVERYONE! But if I have to narrow it down, it’s a toss up between Wayne Coyne and Ann Wilson (Love me some Heart!). However, I am MOST excited to see who the special guests are! I’m hoping for Paul Simon!!

Fav George Harrison song is “Isn’t It a Pity”

Excited to see “Weird Al” Yankovic, Ben Harper, Dhani Harrison and hoping Beck shows up too!

  704. Golnaz Moini (@LivinReflection)

Seriously though, this is pretty awesome. I just snagged two tickets each to Reignwolf, Future Islands and Phosphorescent, all for under $100. Super stoked! Almost seems too good to be true…wondering if there’s a gimmick, like it won’t be a full set or something.

I think this review was pretty spot on. My expectations were pretty low going in, but overall, it was put on well for its first year. I think Capital Cities should have been reviewed here as their performance was definitely in the top 3 for the weekend.

Just food for thought, really. Pretty much the type of responses that I expected. The same type of responses that vinyl Dj’s would have toward CD mixing dj’s. Totally understandable. But… Mr/Mrs “Concert Photographer”. Not all the images above are mine. The ones that are mine are The Orwells, Toy Dolls, The Weirdo’s, Gang Green and the skater, Haden Mckenna. I used a watermark on that one so of course everything but the watermark on him is blurry.

If I were an actual photographer, then I’d probably react the same way many of you are but many amazing shots have been taken with smartphones and I don’t think they should be ruled out completely.

  719. Jordan

Perhaps they can book a lineup that is not complete garbage — that way I don’t have to sell my early-bird tickets that I bought along with 10,000 other people.

    Desperate.

  720. Richard

Made In America LA was horrible. These idiots should not book a festival after FYF and Echo Park Rising. People were either too broke or burnt out to attend. I had free tickets but it just sucked. Genres all over the place and not worth the money if you paid.

That is great to know Danny. Ty is a monster on stage and a hell of a sweet guy so it sucked to read about the lackluster crowd response. I sure would of been there if I hadn’t relocated to Georgia (moved out here August 4th). I really miss Cali.

  729. Danny Baraz

Thanks Robb! I heard the following 3 nights were CRAZY for Ty at The Echo. I swear, it’s the “night 1″ crowd that acts like this. The guest list/vip crowd in Los Angeles is booty.

  730. Robb

Well written piece. I apologize if this comment is not as I type like crap on my phone. That being said, with the exception of the smell which has is fueled with the power of teen enthusiasm, most LA audiences are stick in muds compared to those in THE OC, Pomona and Frisco. I don’t think it is because those other areas have younger audiences but they are there to let loose and care less about putting on airs.
Anyway keep up the good work. I hope to catch TY in Athens or Atlanta.

I agree with you but there’s a difference between capturing THE moment and capturing EVERY moment. Do you really need a 1-minute clip of every single song from a set?

  740. Jordan

At first I too was a little sore about the whole cell phone thing at concets. But you gotta realize people just wanna capture the moment. And there is nothing wrong with that.

  741. A tim

Haha because I drove to coachella with no tix on a sunday to sneak in and catch them (includin others of course). After hopping some fences and running from security i caught the end of their last song.

And for once, I’d like to be in an intimate show where people dont hold their phones up 80% of the time and just enjoy the fucking performance.

Either way, peace, love and all that jazz. Thanks Grimy Goods n Scenester for killin it with info for years. Good luck everyone.

i missed little dragon at coachella this year because i had to help a friend in need! :/

  749. Anyssa

I’ve always wanted to see Little Dragon live but have always missed shows in the past and will have to miss them at fyf this year as well. I wanna sing and dance to them at least once while they’re in town! 😉

  750. Lynn Yang

my favorite band, i was listening to them at home, my 70yr old chinese mom says “hey what are you listening to…”, me “little dragon”, mom “oooh I like them” and starts tapping her feet. This is the appeal of good muaic, it crosses age, color, and cultural lines. little dragon’s sound is beautifully layered, gorgeous melodies, play sounds. I would love to see them in a small space.

  751. Monica Hernandez

The reason I went and paid $400 for Coachella was to see Little Dragon! I waited in the sweaty heat just to get a semi-decent view of them performing and I would love nothing more if I could just see them in a cool intimate setting such as Sonos Studios. Please, Grimy Goods make this happen for me!

  752. Dani

wasnt really worth going other than for peanut butter wolf which was just funny. theres gota be better bands in LA they could have had on.. i get that its a “rising” artists festival, but if this is all LA has to offer, then thats a problem in itself.

  753. michelle

oh man, i think im gonna cry because i want this so bad. SOOOO BAD. I’d kill to see little dragon, since ive never actually seen them! ive missed out ON EVERY SHOW, even their first one at the roxy. Theyre such an easter egg because they rarely do shows in socal now. so please, PICK ME!!!

  754. Monica Won

I’m so excited that you’re having this event!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Little Dragon! I’ve been listening to them for the past few years and would be so excited (between my sobbing and tears) to see them live!! I’m already in the process of hand making the crown from Constant Surprises to wear at FYF. Please Please Please pick me!! It would make my year and these personal experiences really make life so meaningful and full of adventure!

  755. Lisa

the line up wasn’t good though.. there we’re not actual stand our artists like there were last year. it was mostly mediocre, dated garage punk, pretentious indie rock etc..

  756. edward morales

My birthday is tomorrow and I love little dragon! This would absolutely make my 35th year of life super special! Thank you!!!

  757. Karen Thai

GrimyGoods! I cannot explain how much these tickets would mean to me except that : I would quite literally radiate Sunshine, ride in a Runabout like a Feather through the Nightlight as a Ritual Union with my Little Man. I would go through any Test and Scribbled Paper. I would Shuffle A Dream to find a Pink Cloud with Blinking Pigs. I would Klapp Klapp Twice as loud as all the Pretty Girls to see Little Dragon at Sonos Studio on Monday! It would mean that much!

  758. tesia kuh

Little Dragon is MONEY. I listen to their pandora station to set the mood for a chill day
If I got the email on August 22, it would make my birthday exponentially awesome-r!
I would have totally seen them if they were at FYF last year!

  759. Vera Paras

I’ve been following Little Dragon since their first show in LA at the Roxy. Since then, every other time I try to go to see them it’s been waaaaay too crowded, making it really hard to concentrate on the music. If I win, it would finally give me a chance to enjoy the band the right way.

  760. Brenna CC

Earlier this year, my best friend asked if I wanted to join her at Pappy & Harriet’s to see a little band called Little Dragon. Everyday after that for at least two months, I listened to their albums on Spotify over and over again (probably giving them some serious royalty dough!) Sure, I had heard a few songs on the radio, and had a few remixes downloaded from older albums, but listening to the albums in full was a whole-nutha-level of audible mastery. Yukimi’s voice is something of sirens and I’ve developed the ability to impersonate her style, but of course will never be the same. I’ve cried to their music, I’ve fallen asleep to their music, I’ve had sex to their music, I’ve dreamt of their music.

Suffice it to say, the Pappy & Harriet’s show was sold out, so I am entering this contest to thank my best friend for directing my ears towards the magic that is Little Dragon.

  761. Josephine Lazaro

So basically, i am the BIGGEST Little Dragon fan and i’m so sad that i cannot attend FYF. I was hoping they would have a concert here in LA but they’re only doing FYF. :( And i totally missed out on their free show recently when they released Nabuma Rubberband. I am so inlove with their new album that i listen to it almost everyday, all that needs to happen is to see them perform it live! 😉 *wink wink* This would be the greatest to just end my summer with a private live concert from LITTLE freakin DRAGON. It would be an ecstatic feeling to win these tickets and i would love you guys FOREVER. So, puhleaseeeee pick me! :)

P.S. you guys are my favorite music blog website… just sayin 😉

  769. Tanya Iraheta

I LOVE Little Dragon. Nabuma Ruberband might be my favorite album off all time. I’ve been listening to it everyday at least twice a day since its release. I own it on vinyl & CD & still bought it on itunes :) I drove from the valley to see them at Pappy & Harriet’s in Pionertown (2.5 hour drive) & that show was pure magic. I’ve been too lots of shows & that one ranks in my top 3. A few months ago I entered their Nabuma Derby contest & unfortunately didn’t win the grand prize, but was their Honarable Mention #1 😀 check for yourself http://www.nabumarubberband.com

  770. Gemma Jimenez

I have been trying to see Little Dragon so many times but I have been having the worst of luck lately but it seems like many have too. Anyways, here I am again hoping for the best.

  771. carlos cuauhtémoc aguas-pinzón

pick me because i am a genuine fan and would really appreciate seeing true artists is a great space.

  772. Rozania

OM FUCKING G. Pleas pick me! The only reason I wanted to go to FYF was to see Little Dragon. And I have no tickets to FYF. :(

  773. Chris Chavez

Well, why not me? That’s all. Simple and to the point. Love Little Dragon… That’s all

  774. Kathrine Bryan

I would LOVE to see Little Dragon at Sonos Studio! Seeing them in such an intimate setting after FYF would be icing on the cake!

  775. Vanessa Hurtado

A private Little Dragon show?!! This is too good to be true! You should pick me to so that I can tell everyone you weren’t lying. Also because I’ve been listening to Nabuma Rubberband pretty much non-stop since it came out. You ROCK Grimy Goods!!

  776. Audrey

You should give me these tickets because not only do I donate monthly to KCRW and crush on Jason Bentley, a while back Spotify sent me a weird email of congratulations and achievement for being in the top 10% of Little Dragon listeners, I guess according to their algorithms and spying. Nonetheless, I am a huge Little Dragon fan.

  777. Frank Mojica

I would love to see Little Dragon at Sonos Studio because I had tickets to see them at the Roxy, The Avalon, Echoplex and Natural History Museum and ended up out of town for ALL of them. They seem to only do festival shows now in Southern California, so one last intimate set at Sonos would make unbelievably happy.

  778. Pat

Hey Grimy Goods! Little Dragon is great, like really, they’re super cool. But I think the real reason we all want to go to this shindig is in the hopes that taking a trip to the Sonos Studio is kind of like visiting Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. There’s no way I’m walking out of that place with some mad Sonos gear to deck my place out in. After party at my place! Someone send the invite out to Little Dragon!

  779. Anthony

Oh my god please give me this, my best friend and I would just love to attend this!! I’ve entered a bunch of GG contests and never won :( to win this one would be awesome!

  780. Jessica Vela

Hey Grimy Goods! Choose me cause i lurve music and prefer small and intimate(when it comes to music shows) compared to large sweaty crowds. Porfis!

  781. Tony

This would be a chance of a lifetime to see my favorite band live and in an intimate setting. This would be an unbelievable experience I would love to share with my wife. A memory we will cherish for a lifetime.

  782. Andrea

Can we just talk about how AMAZING they all dress?? And her voice is just to die for. Please pick me! I’ve been a fan since the very beginning and I NEED to see them!!

  783. Tanya

It would be so great to celebrate my 1st year anniversary with my honey listening to our FAVORITE band! This would just be THE BEST gift I can give 😀

    Thank you!!

  784. Michelle

IVE MISSED ALL OF THEIR SHOWS BY MERE SECONDS AND IT WOULD BE AWESOME TO FINALLY SEE A FULL SET!! PLEASE PICK MEEEE!!!

  785. Kristen

This would be amazing! I have a good friend that I know would love to be surprised and see Little Dragon in this kind of setting. It would mean a lot for us to go!

  786. Joanne

Please choose me! Little Dragon is amazing. Their energy would be so awesome to see live. I love Yukimi!

  787. Ryan McDonald

O boy! Private Little Dragon performance! Well, I missed them at Treasure Island Music Festival last year due to an unforeseen incident involving a frat boy and what I’ll say was a bad reaction to some “feel good stuff.” Needless to say I needed to go home and clean up. I think a private Little Dragon performance with a Jason Bentley chaser is the cure! How about it Grimy Goods?

  788. Shelly

I’ve loved Little Dragon since the very beginning and I’ve missed them EVERY SINGLE TIME! I even went to their comic book event and I was 10 people away from being let in. PLEASE! ID LOVE TO SEE THEM OFFICIALLY!

  789. Dale

    BAHAHAHAHAH

“The learning curve would’ve taken me years to get the same quality from the DSLR as I get from my iPhone.”

I have so many problems with this. You had the camera for A WEEK?!?!?!?!!? And it didn’t turn out very well. That’s like saying you took a week of calculus and couldn’t do advanced problems.

Also the sample concert/live music pictures used in this as “iphone” shots are a) not in focus b) blurry c) grainy d)over/underexposed. Heck you should have been able to accomplish the same with any DSLR. It doesn’t matter if you were shooting with a 1d on zeiss primes if you can’t even compose the shot. Also if you don’t have appropriate lens, know shutter speeds, know your iso, or know what f stop to be at that could also present lots of problems.

  819. Ryan McDonald

Great article. As someone who was a contributing photographer for The Bay Bridged in SF for years I always used both a DSLR and an iPhone while at shows. The iPhone’s capability is limited but so is a DSLR. There will always be inherent limitations in any type of technology.

It really boils down to what you deem to be the most appropriate camera for the current situation/output of the final project. I would never submit photographs to be published that were used with an iPhone. My reasoning is not because of an inflated ego due to my proficiency with a DSLR but because I want to publish the highest quality image for that type of output. I’m not able to edit or process an iPhone image in photoshop they way I want to because it does not produce a raw file. Conversely, I use my iPhone for snapshots, much like many people over the previous decades have used Polaroids for. Don’t tell me you wouldn’t like to shoot some polaroids of your favorite band from the pit (if only the price of the film would come down.)

Hell, if I got back into concert photography I might consider doing an editorial piece on fellow photographer’s reactions to using my high-tech smartphone from the pit. How about it Grimy Goods?

Are you kidding me?! To the over sensitive idiot comment from “Q” … I love Grimy Goods Hot Vs Not section! It’s about fashion and fun you idiot. I come for the music but always venture to Hot Not for the laughs and or fashion insight. Also, I don’t see any criticism here. It’s actually very open ended. If you don’t like it, don’t click. Simple as that. Besides, you’re probably some overweight “feminist” that cries about any stupid little thing these days. Get a life!

  829. Ryan

The Dirt Tracks are a European band similar the Libertines. They would like to receive more international recognition and only sing in English even though there native language is Castellano. I Would appreciate if you check them out! Let me know what you think

Why does grimy goods always have this shit like its a good music blog and you keep making these irrelevant posts shaming and criticizing women for their choices? Why do you care so much. Who gives a shit if u can see her butt cheeks like you didnt know she had butt cheeks? I have butt cheeks too so what ur probably blessed as hell u can kinda see her buttcheeks its disgusting and pathetic this website really feels the need to devote entire pages s to shit like this. Pls just keep it about the music and less about annoying immature click bait articles/pages whose content(attempt at content??) have a lot more layers to them. Do you have 11 yr old boys interning for you. Just stop its annoying and gross and is making everyone involved lives’ worse.

I would love to win this because of the fact that so many great DJs have played such amazing and trend setting sets throughout the world with boiler room. It is a name that is synonymous with DJing and would be truly an honor to witness one live. Plus I’d love some new speakers!! Thanks Grimy goods!!

  862. Jess

  866. Daniel Rene Contreras II

Firstly, I would love to attend this Skyy Boiler Room exclusive event because my good friend and I always just end up streaming the live feeds and drinking anyway… Figured why not experience the real thing!! (: Plus attending a live Boiler Room has been on my bucket list since the first video I watched. P.S. Happy Anniversary GRIMYGOODS!!!!!!!!!! <3

  867. Richard mora

The boiler room! That’s awesome! I want to win because I want to be on YouTube and have people post comments like “look at that guy, he’s so cool”! Lol

  868. American Pancake (@AmericanRobb)

Wyatt Blair- the man of mythical proportions (that sounds weird and creepy) has always been a work horse so it does not surprise me that his record store / label is growing at a rapid pace. It used to freak me out because he seemed to be omnipresent lending his musical skills to more than one band at a time. Not only that, I just seem to run into the guy everywhere. I remember one time, I drove out to interview Kera and the Lesbians and there was Wyatt recording them at their practice space. This guy is no slacker and I am stoked that Lolipalooza was such a roaring success.

  869. Mat

Only caught the first 3 songs yet still writing a review for the live show? The basement idea was great cuz most of the Hardcore Devo songs were never played outside the band’s initial basement days… until now. There was quite a build up as the set progressed. There was a set change that took us out of the basement scene, and the band did “discover” a box of blue outfits that we’ve all come to expect from Devo. Bob2’s son came on state to play a song with the band in his pop’s memory. Songs included: “Space Girl Blues,” “Stop Look and Listen, “Jocko Homo,” “Soo Bawls,” “Midget,” “Satisfaction,” and “Uncontrollable Urge.” It was awesome.

  884. Olivia Avila

I am seriously excited for it allllll!!! I was able to attend last year and though I handled it like a champ until I finally made it to the dessert section and everything was GONE! :( if I have the opportunity to attend this I will definitely hit up every dessert and exceed my sugar intake happily. I aim to get churro borough in my belly for sure and some tequila tasting done. Don’t worry though, since I’ll be hopped up on sugar I am thinking I’ll be set to conquer tacos from Candela taco bar, ceviche bar, Mexicali tacos.. And everything else!

  885. Laura

It was really hard to pick just one…but I would definitely stop at the Ramond 1886 for a cocktail
, the grilled cheese truck (haayyy) after that and then beignets from Confexion Cupcakes.

  886. Jacqueline Li

My sweet tooth says that I’m most excited for the churro burrough!!!!!!! I mean……churros + ice cream in a holdable fashion? whoa. PLUS the fact that they’re so elusive and can be found here makes me even more enticed!! Saffron & Rose: i love ice cream and rose flavoured everything.

Thank you, thank you !!! I have been a concert goer for many years … And have yet to mind the “space invasion ” of the front row… For me it actually enhances the vibes when everyone is crowded together having a great time … ; but I’ll never forget the one recent experience front row at Brandon Boyd in February …. This girl kept looking back at me giving this deflating balloon sigh , shaking her head and asking me to back up . Mind you , thus was a small venue and most of the crowd was extremely (bleh) mellow , so no one was crowding , not even me . I was a good 6 inches behind her . She was freaking out that I was too close . Are you kidding me ? Excuse me , but do you realize you’re front row at a concert ?!!! So annoying ! She finally left , and I was to enjoy Mr. Boyd once again w my fellow front row-ers. So , PLEASE people ; if you don’t like crowds, dancing and life in general … STAY OUT OF THE FRONT ROW!!

  927. Graham

Keep your clothes on. It’s so bizarre to me when you’re at a show and someone takes their clothes off, especially pants. And I think Suzanne brought up a valid point, don’t yell for your favorite song. It’s very rude.

I’d love to surprise him with tickets. Forever grateful if chosen. Thank you! Have a wonderful day. xoxo

  936. Renee Rivera

I would love a chance to win tickets for this year’s First City Festival! I was able to go last year and it was the best experience. The lineup was fantastic, the crowds were great and the atmosphere was just perfect (loved the carnival rides and all of the delicious food!). Compared to other festivals, First City Festival was such a down-to-earth experience and just so relaxed and enjoyable (I never could have enjoyed sets from the comfort of a blanket under a tree AND still have a great view of the stage at Outside Lands!). I’d love to be able to see The National, Phantogram, Best Coast and Tokyo Police Club (among the many other amazing bands that are lined up to perform!) as I’m sure they’ll each deliver GREAT sets. Monterey isn’t a bad place for a music festival either. 😉 Submitting this with fingers crossed! (e-mail: rprivera1991@gmail.com)

  937. Steffany P

I would love to win these tickets because it would be my first music festival I would be attending, and it would be a great first festival to attend. I love going to concerts and the feeling of being at a concert is like no other. When you can literally feel the music flowing inside you, it’s the most magical experience, and you can’t get it anywhere else. If I’m chosen to win these tickets, I’ll definitely make sure to put them to good use! Definitely planning on seeing Best Coast, Geographer, and Lo-Fang if I go! Thank you for holding this giveaway!

  938. Danesa Lopez

I really really love this lineup, I just finished watching OITNB and now i have nothing else to do with my life. Plus I’m moving to monterey in August & it would be so cool to attend a music festival in a city that I will be living in. I also love best coast and monterey is on the best coast cause we’re on the west coast. Its also gonna be the last weekend of summer and this would be way to end it. I also bought a coachella ticket last year to see the naked and famous but couldn’t go bc my car broke down and i was attending san jose state and it became too much money to fix the car and attend coachella, besides dropping money on the car i also lost money from not attending coachella the money i saved up all year, attending this music festival to see i could have seen at coachella would mean everything to me! much love, peace and good vibes

  939. Lucy

Why I want to go: Because BECK, and I didn’t get to see his full set at Coachella. My friends and I planned to ride the ferris wheel on Sunday, during Lana del Rey’s set (heh). Instead of going straight to the ferris wheel queue, they wanted to grab food BEFORE lining up!! While they took forever to eat, I ditched my group temporarily to watch part of Beck’s set. A little later, they called me and told me to hurry up and come to the ferris wheel line. They even let other people go in front of them at the line, and bought a ticket for me! How could I say no?…even though I was already an asshole for ditching them. So I missed some of Beck’s set. Apparently I missed E-Pro. :( I did catch Soldier Jane and a MJ cover, though. Definitely want to see more!

I’d also like to see The National, Geographer, and Miniature Tigers! Such an eclectic lineup. Thanks for another awesome giveaway!

  940. Angela Lopez

I would love to go to FCF again this year, I had the time of my life last time! I went last year for the Sunday lineup and this year my friend and I wanna go for the weekend. Gotta see The National, Phantogram, Blind Pilot, Lake Street Dive, and Cults!!! <3

  941. Vanessa Hurtado

I’d love to go to First City Festival! Monterey is such a beautiful place and I’ve never been here for a festival. It would be awesome to see Beck, Phantogram and Mr. Little Jeans (just to name a few)! And while I’m there, I’ll have to check out the sea otters at Monterrey Bay Aquarium.

  942. Gina Fant

I would love to see The National, Naked and Famous, Puddles and …….wait….. did you say Future Islands?? Grimy Goods, you’re so awesome that my heart skips a beat !

I hear from women on Tinder all the time complaining about guys taking pics of themselves with tigers – but I also see an equal number of women with pics of themselves with a tiger! What’s with the damned tigers? Oh, and kissing dolphins. Really? What’s that all about?
I even saw a woman posing with a Ferarri – and in their profile complaining about the guys with the tigers. Hello?! It’s the same thing!
Otherwise the biggest bugbears are the same as listed – the whole point of Tinder – as opposed to the many other dating sites/apps out there – is to go with your immediate gut instinct based on looks alone. And yet so many women just refuse to show themselves – mostly pics of themselves with other people (we really don’t care enough to figure out which one you are), looking away, face not actually showing at all or half covered up. Seriously, if you’re so ashamed of yourself that you can’t show your face we don’t want to date you!

  959. Anna

I would love to attend this festival! I’ve never been to it before but it looks like fun. My favorite band, The National, will be headlining as well, so how can I resist! I don’t live in northern California nor have I been to Monterey either, so the experience will be completely new and refreshing to me!

I really wanted to go to the festival last year but I couldn’t. After reading the reviews and looking at the awesome pictures is last year I definetely want to go this year! My brother is moving up there for school in the fall and would like to take him to the festival. Would be so exciting to see Phantogram, Beck, The National, and the Naked and Famous, since I’ve missed their LA shows. I would also be excited to see Future Islands, I’ve been listening to their Singles’ CD a lot lately, it’s so good!!

  964. Eden Waldon

I am a festival virgin and I want to be exposed. Raw, ripped and real with the best in the west. Beck is bitchin along with my all time favorite group, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. Keep those good vibes rolling and keep it kitch!

  965. Samuel Nieto

Dear Grimy Goods, thanks for doing this contest. Honestly, it always feels like these contests are hard to win but I have a good feeling about this one. So, fingers crossed. When I first heard about First City’s Festival line-up this year, I got pretty excited because The National AND Beck are headlining and a lot of other cool bands and artists are playing too. If I were to win, it’d make my year. I love these bands like Best Coast, Blind Pilot, Tokyo Police Club, and The National. Actually, The National’s “Trouble Will Find Me” is one of my favorite albums ever and The National is one of my true, favorite bands and I’ve never had the privilege to see them live. So, not only would it be special to see them up in Monterey (which I’ve never been too, sadly) but I would take my friend who lives up there that I only get to see once a year (who’s also crazy about The National). But also, I’ve never really been to these sorts of festivals because money’s always been tight so, it’d be pretty sweet to win. It’d make me and my friend’s summer. I swear I’ll take lots of pictures and blog about it and tell my kids, if I ever have any, about it someday because it sounds really exciting. Thanks, Grimy Goods.

It would be a real treat to win these passes! Being that it takes place on my birthday week! I’d also do anything to be able to witness Matt move the crowd with The National. They’re one of my all time favorite bands! Also who wouldn’t want to see Beck?

  967. Kate winters

Hey I would LOVE to go the first city festival because I’ve haven’t been to many concerts let alone festivals….it would be a spectacular first for me. I adore all bands such as beck, phantogram, cults, Tokyo police club, the naked and the famous, unknown mortal orchestra. Monterey is my home, and I can’t believe all these bands are coming to my back yard! I’m going to be a college student soon, (I will be broke) so this festival let me go out with a bang. Pleas please please!!!!! Let me win! It would truely mean the world to me. Thank you for listening~

  968. Sammi Tuttle

Love seeing my favorite bands in my home town! Spend lots of time at the fairgrounds and it’s amazing to be there with such an amazing line up. Best Coast and The National are some of my favorites! NEED to win because I’m a broke high school student! :)

It would be great if I got to go this fest! It’s very, very sweet. like a pie or a pineapple on a pizza which can be enjoyable sometimes. anyway, miniature tigers are a killer band live and i can’t make it to there show at the rickshaw stop in july so I HAVE to make it to this fest! plus loads of amazing bands are playing as well! Sleepy Sun, The National, Beck, CocoRosie etc.!!!

  988. Jerry

So stoked for MØ. She was fantastic the last time I saw her at I think the Echo opening for CHVRCHES. Erik Hassle is cool opener too.

I am hoping to win tickets for first city fest because the trip alone is pricey. I need to be at this festival because I am too old for huge, scalped, electronic wrist band, agro festivals. I want to experience this boutique festival in its second year before it blows up and has to move to a huge venue, or two weekends…

  998. Kathy Nguyen

This is gonna be my first time going to First city & I heard how fun it was from all my friends going previous years. The lineup especially was what sold me, & for me to pick one band was hard bc I really like majority of them ( which is another great reason you should pick me ;))

  999. Jason Y.

i would LOVE to attend First City Festival for many reasons. It’s taking place in Monterey, just times from where I live! At the historical event center where Janis Joplin, The Mamas and The Papas & The Who all took the stage in ’67 kicking off the summer of love. This years First City’s line up is just as amazing as last years, if i win these tickets i’d be super stoked for Beck, Cults, Blind Pilot, The Naked and Famous, and Lake Street Drive! Attending this festival would be the absolute best way to end the summer!! :)

  1000. Laura Davis

I want to go to First City Festival because, well, let’s face it…it’s on SACRED GROUNDS. I mean, this is the place that Jimi Hendrix sacrificed his guitar, where Janis Joplin sang her unforgettable performance of Ball and Chain, and where the Who shocked the audience with their destructive stage performance. First City Festival creates the feel of what music festivals were made for. I would love to see Beck, The National, Lake Street Dive, Best Coast, Dawes, The Men, and Doe Eye. I’ve been waiting way too long for a chance to see Best Coast. Life is just better at a music festival. Especially somewhere that has has such gnarly history.

  1001. Pat Moan

    Hey Grimy Goods,

Well, let me start off by saying that you guys are awesome for giving out tickets. I have never been to First City Festival, but with a lineup this good it’s hard to resist. Chilin’ out in a huge park area with nice people and great music. Sounds like the perfect way to end an equally great summer. I can’t wait to see The National and Phantogram, but Beck takes the cake on this one… His new album was made for a festival like this, and his old hits are incomparable. Would be sooo stoked to win these tickets!

    Thanks again dudes!

  1002. Sam Elmi

I have been a loser for six months. I want to start seaing change in my lifestyle, and what better way than to take a mellow road trip up to gamma-rey.

  1003. Chad

The Grimy is always hooking up cool contests! Phantogram, Cults and the Lonely Wild are among my favorites! Would love to spend the weekend w/ them all! thanks!

  1004. Jackie Andruscavage

What an amazing lineup. The music festivals this year are superb! This one especially. I would kill to see Beck and Phantogram. Free rides are definitely a plus as well. This would be a fun little road trip from LA and I would get to spend an amazing weekend in such an enviornment with people just enjoying each other and good music!

How could you beat a music festival with unlimited carnival rides and bacon wrapped corn dogs?! Most pumped to see Cool Ghouls, Future Islands and the National (but seriously – excited to see almost the entire lineup). This was one of the most fun festivals last year and hoping to make it happen again this time around!

We want to see Beck, The Naked and Famous, Phantogram, Best Coast, Dawes, Cults, Tokyo Police Club, Mr. Little Jeans, and pretty much everyone! This would definitely be the highlight of our year if we could win! And we have friends who live nearby that we could visit. A win win to a fun little getaway.

  1019. Jerry

Great week of shows. First Aid Kit and Thursday’s Troubadour lineup with The Wind and The Wave are my personal picks.

  1020. Melissa

I’d love to win tickets after being scammed out of Coachella tickets this year, I can’t afford to get tickets to see the naked and famous and THE NATIONAL! They’re my favorite.

  1021. Vanessa Garcia

I really want to win tickets to First City because I was going to buy my own but then I got an email that my place of work is going out of business :/
I’m also having to sell my pass to another festival, which is crappy and I’m totally bummed about it. Being an adult sucks, but going to awesome festivals like First City really helps make it not suck all that much! I really want to see Phantogram because Sarah Barthel is Sexy!

  1022. Melissa

Seeing Cocorosie would be so awesome, not to mention the rest of the bands that will be there. This festival seems like a fun experience and I’d love to have the chance to go!

  1023. Fallon

Why because it’s a carnival FOR GROWN UPS and the rides are free?!?! And because of beck, phantogram, how to dress well, quilts, Dawes, mr little jeans, the mutha fucking national, midlake, Blind pilot.

  1024. Sandra

I’d love the chance to spend a weekend with beautiful people in beautiful Monterey listening to beautiful music! And I’m particularly lookin’ forward to The Naked and Famous + Phantogram :0)

  1025. Warren

Because live music is a religious experience. Cocorosie for starters…Best Coast…

Tokyo Police and Geographer are a radical combination, it would be great to see them!

  1029. Carlos Caro

I would want to go as I haven’t been to festival all year and that needs some changing. I’d want to check out Beck, Best Coast, and Cults

  1030. Rose

Last year I want to the inaugural First City Festival with my boyfriend, his sister and her partner from Oakland. It was the first of many, first First City Festival, my first time in Monterey, my first time meeting my man’s sister, my first music festival and our first long trip together. It was AMAZING! We weren’t planning on going back this year as we live in North Carolina even though we’d both love to see Phantogram (seeing them in Carrboro this past year wasn’t enough!) and so many other bands. BUT if we won these tickets it would be a dream come true and year two of an amazing tradition. Crossing my fingers!

  1031. Nancy Motherway

I would love to attend the First City festival to see Beck, The Naked and Famous, Phantogram, Best Coast and Blind Pilot the most. And because Monterrey is so lovely in the summertime too.

  1032. Evelyn

I just discovered future Islands a couple months ago through grimy goods and I would love nothing more than to see them live. This blog has seriously introduced me to so much quality music. Music I would have never known of.

  1033. Amy

This festival would be an absolute dream for me, as I’ve never seen any of these bands live but have been listening to them for years (CocoRosie, Beck, Tokyo Police Club). I love the mix of the new (Cults, Best Coast) and the old (The National, Beck). Given the beautiful location, this would be THE way to kick off my summer!!!

  1034. Garrett b

Would live to be able to take my girl out of town for a little getaway (she freakin deserves it) while getting to see and hear some awesome music. The National will always bestow my heart but I also look forward to Beck and Tokyo Police Club. Thanks again for another Grimy opportunity!

  1035. Martin Cisneros

I would really love a pair of tickets to this festival because I was unable to purchase FYF tickets and am pretty bummed out about it. But this festival, being on the same day as FYF, would be a really great way to get over it. Plus, the lineup seems really good! I’m a huge fan of Cults, Phantogram, Best Coast, and of course the Naked and Famous and seeing them live would mean a lot and be a total blast!!! Thank you :)

  1036. Krystle

I just want an excuse to take time off from my shitty job tbh. I want to see Beck!

  1037. Phoebe Smolin

Basically, everything about this festival is home to me. Dawes’ ‘Time Spent in Los Angeles’ song made me feel both at home and okay far away from it when I was living in New York, Speedy Ortiz is from my adopted Western Mass home where I lived for 5 years and probably drunkenly mumbled some embarrassing things to them in a basement a few times. Lake Street DIve sings me awake and asleep most days, Beck and Best Coast sound like the the angsty confusing Los Angeles i love so dearly. It’s just too good.

  1038. Ivet

I really would love a pair of tickets to this fest because it would be my first Festival in Cali since I moved from the south 10 months ago! And it would be a good 1yr anniversary of being a Californian gift for mua!

I would love to see Beck, and The National (because they are my favorite band!!!!! ;_____________________;), Phantogram, Cults, Cocorosie, and hopefully catch some of the other bands that I don’t know but hopefully enjoy something new!

  1039. Justin Cornwall

I would LOVE to check out this festival. It’s been a rough couple months and a getaway to check out some amazing music with my girlfriend would be great. I’ve also never seen The National, who are one of my favorite bands. And we’d be able to visit friends in Monterey!

  1040. Trevor Smith

I’d love to take my wife to the festival. She’s never been to Monterey and Beck and Dawes are two of here favorite bands!

  1041. Alissa whelan

I recently moved from Asheville nc to california and I am homesick. Nothing could help that homesick feeling like a great festival in a beautiful city. Dawes, lake street dive, beck… Oh yes. Please and thank you : )

  1042. Megan Lindenberg

In need of some good live music. A weekend of musical fulfillment is ideal! Looking forward to Phantogram and Tokyo Police Club!

    Please and Thank you!!

  1043. Nicholas fermin

I need to go!!! First off… I love Monterey, second… I really want to see the National!!!! I need to see the National! Beck and Phantogram, tokyo police club, best coast… I want thisb
