Back in January, when I first got a hold of Fitz & The Tantrums debut EP “Songs For A Break Up-Vol. 1,” I was instantly glued to their bodacious sound. Drenched with all that joyous funky soul from 60s past and blended with a hot and sexy twist for today, Fitz & The Tantrums deliver one hell of a funky ride. But listening to their audio nuggets certainly isn’t enough to get the full Fitz & The Tantrums experience. Recently signed to Dangerbird and having toured with funky soul revivalists Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, there has to be something red hot about this band to herald such attention. Until you see their live performance, you will know exactly why they’ve created such a hot fuss.

Fitz & The Tantrums held a June residency at Spaceland and we were fortunate enough to catch their last two sold-out shows. Steaming the venue up like sweltering juke joint they are an absolute vision to watch on stage with their funky soul groves and moves, not to mention they got the crowd all the way down on their knees only to rise back up in a full on dance assault! Font-man Fitz has some serious soul under that slim whiteboy exterior of his, while his adorable co-hort, the lovely Ms. Scaggs is one funky firecracker! She shimmies across the stage drawing in the crowd with her inviting stage presence and radiance. Combine the two stars with four astounding musicians handling some fancy brass, guitars, organ and bubbling percussion and you have yourself one kick-ass ensemble.

From their vibrant hit song “Breaking The Chain of Love” to their loving slow jam “Darkest Street,” Fitz & The Tantrums even did a cover of the Eurythmics “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” not only working the crowd before them but totally leaving them drooling for more. Their debut LP “Pickin’ Up The Pieces” is coming at you August 24 and I highly suggest you get those soul-clappin’ hands all over it!

Check out the photos of Fitz & The Tantrums at Spaceland below. They were supported by opening bands Ben Lovett and The Damsells who also put on a great show and we got some photos of below.
