Kicking off a week’s worth of music, skateboarding and most of all surfing, the US Open of Surfing commenced with a musical bang with their live performances this past Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010. Taking the stage on the skuzzy sands of Huntington Beach (which I look to call the IE by the Sea), a breath of indie air graced the coastline as Long Beach’s hometown heroes the Cold War Kids and San Diego’s the Soft Pack played some sunny sets. With fans flooding the stage area and bobbing their heads to some dope sounds, it was an awesome free showcase that definitely pleased the crowd.
