A Winged Victory for the Sullen is the first installment of the new collaboration between Stars of the Lid member Adam Wiltzie and composer Dustin OʼHalloran. They put on a mesmerizing and emotional performance this past Tuesday at the Satellite. Performing their dark, enchanting tunes live under the dim blue lights of the Satellite was the perfect aural and visual setting. The band touched our emotional strings with sweet symphonies of violins, guitars, pianos and synths — it was the most soothing yet lively performance we had seen at the Satellite in quite some time.

For fans of gorgeous harmonic compositions that bustle with life sans any lyrics to guide you of their meaning —A Winged Victory for the Sullen is just the musical dish you need to add to your collection. They soar with exquisite symphonies that tend to create a somber tone — fit for the score of a most melancholy scene in a major film. After 20 years of experimenting with ambient drone music, Wiltzie has found his niche in these delicate, yet omnipotent compositions that breathe life. The duo have definitely created something beautiful here and we hope they continue to deliver such powerful soundscapes.
