It pained us not to be at this show! Guadalupe Plata had their New York debut this past Thursday, June 20 at the Cameo Gallery in Brooklyn. While I was not there, my good friend Brian caught the show live as we have both have been fans of the Spanish swamp-punk-blues rockers for quite some time. We first featured Guadalupe Plata in January of 2011 with a “Hot Band Alert” and it’s nice to see them get recognition with more American music blogs and venues. Apparently it was a great turn-out at the Cameo Gallery for Guadalupe Plata’s New York debut. From what Brian told me, the guys were on fire playing those gritty punk-fueled blues, and that they had even improved since the last time we caught them live at SXSW. It’s hard for a band that’s already so awesome in their style and genre to improve, but Guadalupe Plata kicked it up a notch as they sizzled on stage with a fierce stage presence as they howled their Spanish blues. We look forward to their West Coast tour hopefully this fall! You can listen to Guadalupe Plata’s catalog, here.

Performing with Guadalupe Plata was another knock-out band of the same genre. Daddy Long Legs are yet another three-piece that can absolutely shred them dirty roots punk ‘n’ blues. You can defitnley hear some Screamin’ Jay Hawkins in their wild tunes that are rich in harmonica with a fast whiskey soaked punk sound. They croon, they howl, and they get quite feral. We are just dying to have these guys play a show in Los Aneles. They’re fucking badass. You should listen to their tunes for yourself, here.
