Photos: The Pack A.D Return to Los Angeles with a Ferocious Performance at the Satellite

It had been four long months that we had to calm are insatiable craving for the Pack A.D. The last time we saw the ferocious rock “n” roll duo was in a packed room at Taix during Culture Collide. It’s definitely not the best place to see a band as talented and energetic as the Pack A.D. perform live, however, we were more than happy for this little teaser and had waited in great anticipation for the blistering set they just put on last Friday at the Satellite. After watching singer/guitarist, Becky Black and drummer, Maya Miller crush the Satellite, it was all worth the wait.

Playing songs from their incredible fifth studio album, Do Not Engage, the Pack A.D. had the dense Satellite crowd under their rock ‘n’ roll spell. I hadn’t see a rock show like this in quite some time. From the riveting “Animal” to the soulful crooning of “Battering Ram” — fans were headbanging and shaking their hips to the groove of the Pack A.D.’s intoxicating melodies. With a powerful sound spawn from a marriage of high octane drums and heavy guitar riffs, the Pack A.D.’s set was incredible. Not one fan left the Satellite that night dry. As Maya had mentioned on stage, it was so hot we were “sweatin’ tacos”. The duo closed up the night with a stripped down solo number performed by Becky (“Needles”), it was nice to see this powerful rock godess flip the switch and become tender and vulnerable. We also enjoyed their cover of the 80s new wave number, “I Got You” by Split Enz. Actually, we kind of liked their version better.
