The female quartet, Dum Dum Girls started off last weekend’s Coachella performance a bit rocky, but came on late and finished very strong. Weekend two, the New York City based band didn’t suffer the same early woes and spun together a tight and nicely gelled set. “Bedroom Eyes” and “Coming Down” got the loudest pops, but on a whole, the crowd was pretty dead and didn’t respond to much of what they were being given on stage. Drummer Sandy brings the most pizazz to the table in terms of stage presence, but on this occasion singer Dee Dee Penny even got into it a bit and did more than just her usual hip sway enticing. One day, Dum Dum Girls could wind up being the kind of band that would be perfect for a sunset set, but they’re still far away from playing when you’d be ‘coming down’, something their song discusses thoroughly.
