If you’re into the whole 60s/psych/surf/garage scene, there was no better place to be than The Echoplex this past Monday. Due to the overwhelming response to Mystic Braves’ monthly residency at The Echo, the 3rd week was moved downstairs to the larger Echoplex stage. All flavors of the scene were represented from the shoegaze-y, Drinking Flowers, to the 60s pop stylings of Joel Jerome, to the surf/garage sounds of Corners, to the heavy psych set from Mystic Braves.

Between the loose playing and slightly out-of-tune (not in a cool way) guitars, the Mystic Braves live show fell short of my expectations. While I was disappointed by the lackluster performance, the Echoplex crowd didn’t seem to mind. One of the strangest things I saw was the formation of a mosh pit (?!?!?!?) during their set. I’d love for the same kids that were moshing to show up at the upcoming Trash Talk show and see what a real pit looks like.
