This most recent edition of Dub Club at The Echoplex was an incredible night of dub reggae music from all over the world. For their first performance in Los Angeles, Israeli band, Zvuloon Dub System absolutely KILLED it. With an interesting blend of classic 70s inspired Jamaican reggae, Israeli mizrahi, and Ethiopian jazz — Zvuloon got the crowd dancing early and didn’t let them stop.

Celebrating their latest release on Stones Throw Records, was the all-star L.A. reggae band, The Lions. Their new record, This Generation in Dub, is the dub version of The Lions’ 2013 release, This Generation, mixed by Dub Club’s own, Tom Chasteen. Where Zvuloon Dub System left off, The Lions picked right back up and performed an energetic set packed full of hits. The only disappointment I had was that I was expecting a bit more of a dubbed out live mix of the performance considering their release.

Whatever I felt I was missing from The Lions’ performance, I got back ten fold as the legendary UK dub producer, Adrian Sherwood, took to the stage. Armed with a Midas mixing console, a couple of CDJ’s and several rack spaces of delay and reverb FX, Adrian closed out the evening with a heady and heavy mix of tracks from his own On-U Sound record label. It was the perfect closing to a near perfect night of sweet reggae music.
