Last night, Baltimore based Synth-pop band, Future Islands, kicked off the first of two back-to-back sold-out shows at the Fonda Theatre. How can you not smile when you have the charismatic sweat-soaked frontman Sam Herring, working every inch of the stage with his signature dance moves? It’s easy to be captivated by Herring and his showmanship, but hats go off to the rest of the band as they provided a perfectly executed performance that stayed true to the recordings but also didn’t feel like they were just playing to backing tracks. Stand out songs were the obvious “Seasons” and then the encore performance of “Vireo’s Eye”.

With their hooky 80s influenced synth-pop Operators, the new project from Dan Boeckner (Handsome Furs, Wolf Parade), was the perfect opener for Future Islands. I’d keep an eye out for them, I see big things happening in their futures.

Future Islands perform once again tonight at the Fonda Theatre and at FYF this Saturday. Do not miss out.
