There is a moment at every music festival where you realize that it’s fully about to be on. At FYF Fest 2014, that moment was when burgeoning indie darlings Little Dragon launched into “Ritual Union”, a song that had the crowd singing along.

“Ritual…unions…got me in trouble a-gainnn” sang the crowd happily as they danced to the sweet and understated beat. It’s been said that singer Yukimi Nagano felt inspiration from ’90s Janet Jackson, and it never felt more apparent than with that song.

Donning a big and floppy straw hat as the sun winded down, Nagano showed a lot of charisma as she fronted an energetic set that came at the right time. It was at this point in the day that it felt as though everyone had finally made their way into the festival after long waits, and Little Dragon set the tone for the rest of the day, it seemed.

There’s a reason why Little Dragon has been making noise lately, and the songs they played off their 2014 release Nabuma Rubberband showed a band that has progressed beyond indie curiosity to where big things are expected.
