“Rosemary…heaven restores you in life…”

That’s all it took for FYF Fest to collectively lose their shit a few songs into Interpol’s killer set. Music festival goers of a wide range finished the opening verse of “Evil”, a highlight among many from them on Saturday night.

For me, Interpol has always been that early 2000s New York alt-grunge band that doesn’t seem to get the acclaim that The Strokes always got, but certainly deserved. It was only perfect that Julian Casablancas preceded Interpol on the main stage, as they took what Julian brought to the stage and ran with it like a baton, almost as though it was an Olympic relay race.

Paul Banks’ vocals cut through the crowd like a sharp knife. They come out just so matter-of-fact and with such assuredness. The guitar open in “Say Hello to the Angels” greeted the crowd to start things off and also began what would be a whiplash-inducing head-bopping set.

Interpol’s set served as pretty intense dance music as more than a fair share of people were digging into it pretty good. One excited fan had a GoPro attached to some sort of pool noodle and incorporated the noodle into their dancing. It probably made for shitty footage but it was rather entertaining to watch.

Mixing in just the right amount of new songs with the memory-inducing favorites, Interpol hit the sweet spot as things began to shore up Saturday night on the main stage.
