“I’m not a big birthday guy, but thanks,” said Julian Casablancas on the main stage at FYF Fest upon receiving a birthday cake on Friday, playing with The Voidz.

The Strokes front man celebrated his birthday in style, playing a wide assortment of differing tunes from his repertoire.

Though his side project was never received as well as The Strokes (an impossible task, really), the crowd got more than their money’s worth as he mixed things up pretty well, setting the table for The Strokes to close things up on Sunday.

Casablancas and The Voidz even did something slightly unexpected, playing “Instant Crush”, the song that he collaborated on with Daft Punk. It sent euphoria through the crowd as they couldn’t help but get their groove on as any Daft Punk related song will have you do.

Casablancas also gave fans a little taste of what is still to come, playing The Strokes’ “I’ll Try Anything Once,” which took the set up another notch from already high marks.

The fact that it left you wanting more is just too perfect, given that 24 hours from then, your wish would be granted.
