This past Monday, the summer heat was eased with Sonos Studio‘s chill atmosphere that celebrated Blue Note Records 75th anniversary with a very private show featuring singer-songwriter Jose James. Discussing his fifth album While You Were Sleeping through a charming interview conducted by KCRW music director, Jason Bentley, the night turned into a perfect teaser to James’ new production.

The very attentive crowd enjoyed hearing about James’ inspirations such as Prince as well as learning that it was his mother who introduced him Jimi Hendrix. A fan of the Beastie Boys, Nine Inch Nails and the Pharcyde — James brings heavy doses of traditional jazz and modern hip hop that follows a thread providing a unique musical experience. James creativity is outstanding in the way he blends and delivers vocals as well as combining different music genres.
