Bass Drum of Death

The Mississippi based trio, Bass Drum of Death played to a sold out all ages show at The Echo last night. You know you’re in for it when the crew for the band tells the people at the front of the stage that they’re fucked standing where they are. As soon as the band launched into their first songm The Echo erupted in a fit of fury. The room surged forward, proving just how right the BDOD crew was. Fans crawled on to the stage only to launch themselves back into the crowd and it was quite the challenge to avoid getting kicked in the head while snapping photos. Die hard Bass Drum of Death fans sang every word at the top of their lungs while even the cool kids in the back couldn’t help themselves from nodding their heads and bounce around a bit.

I don’t see a lot of shows where the lineup is a perfect match of both styles and energy, so when I heard about the last minute addition of Criminal Hygiene, I knew that this was going to be one for the books. The Echo Park locals kicked the show off right while LA surf/punk band, Beach Party stepped up the energy and got everybody primed up for the main event. All in all, Tuesday night’s show was a raucous good time and everybody left with a smile on their sweaty face.
