The Black Ryder

Los Angeles’ The Black Ryder celebrated the release of their new LP, The Door Behind The Door this past Wednesday at The Echothe same venue in which they made their Los Angeles debut back in 2011. Released on February 24th via the band’s own imprint The Anti-Machine Machine in conjunction with The Orchard, the new album picks up when the band left Australia to tour America in 2010.

Creating new layers of emotion through sound, the duo seemed closer than ever on stage at The Echo. Vibing off each others lyrical feelings and mesmerizing sounds, The Black Ryder had swallowed the audience whole. All eyes were on them throughout their entire set. With beautifully haunting sounds as heard in songs “Babylon” and “Until The Calm Of Dawn”, this new album has a deeply personal nature that is personified live when The Black Ryder take the stage.

Aimee Nash’s shoegaze-angelic voice hits new levels in “Seventh Moon”. Like a forest nymph leading you through her land, she took fans on an ethereal ride with her lulling harmonies and the organic sounds manipulated by Scott Von Ryper. Seeing The Black Ryder live is almost like a spiritual experience. Their music transcends from calm and soothing to a mystical explosion of fuzzy psychedelia, and it’s absolutely stunning.

One of their most moving songs, “Santeria” has so much emotion behind it. Von Ryper’s vocals are calming, but have a deep sense of urgency. The atmospheric sounds only add to the feels of this song. It’s definitely one of the best tracks off The Door Behind The Door.

Opening up for The Black Ryder were Slow White and Vinyl Williams. Check out our photos form all three performance below.
