It’s Coachella week, and as part of Goldenvoice’s massive roll-out of Coachella sideshows, Tame Impala came to the Fox Theater Pomona last night to showcase their latest music. The Aussie psych rockers debuted two new song last night. Both “‘Cause I’m a Man” and “Let It Happen” were recently shared on Grimy Goods as Tame Impala’s newest songs from their forthcoming album, Currents. But man, these songs truly came to life on stage. While new single ‘Cause I’m a Man” introduced a heavier soul element to the band’s better-known psych sound, the vibey (long) track “Let It Happen” has all those psychedelic Tame Impala feels, but with an added electronic sheen.
Tame Impala didn’t stray from fan favorites. As their backdrop burst with all the colors of the rainbow, fans were treated to songs like “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards,” “Elephant” and more. It was an incredible sonic groove that we wished had no end.
The band definitely gave fans a taste of what’s to come from their new record. When the show came to close, everyone in attendance just wanted to hit rewind on the evening. It’s crazy to see just how much Tame Impala has grown over the years. Rising from the underground/indie world and into the mainstream airwaves. It feels like it was just a few weeks ago that Grimy Goods covered their Los Angeles debut at The Echo; but no, that was almost five years ago. Time flies when you’re on a good vibe.
If you’re headed to Coachella this weekend or next, be sure to add Tame Impala to your must-see list. Without a doubt, it will be one of the highlights of your festival experience.
Opening up for Tame Impala were Broncho. And these Oklahoma boys started things off right with their fiery garage rock. If only every opening act sizzled with the same energy and vibrance as Broncho, shows would always be full at door time.
