KIMBRA

New Zealand’s Kimbra really knows how to put on a show.

From her outfit to her vocal range to her stage presence, she had the full package working Friday late afternoon in the Gobi tent. Wearing another one of her spectacular outfits, a metallic looking dress underneath an interesting shawl-type thing, Kimbra electrified the crowd from the start of her set until the end.

In 2012, Kimbra got her 15 minutes of Coachella fame as a special guest during Gotye’s set for :Somebody That I Used to Know.” Now Kimbra had all the spotlight — and it’s quite clear at this time she’s got the much higher ceiling than her former collaborator.

Highlights included “Miracle” and “90s Music” from her most recent release, but the crowd was really feeling her set as they hid from the last few hours of sun on a beautiful day in the desert.

Kimbra’s blend of soul and pop music is unique, and her set could be one that people left the festival on day one talking about the most.
