Aussie rockers Tame Impala blew away the main stage crowd at Coachella on Friday with their psychedelic set.
Their music is powerful enough to make you feel like you’re on drugs — even when you aren’t. Lead man Kevin Parker and company have really begun to peak as performers, and Friday’s strong showing could help take them to new heights after performing in Indio just two Coachellas ago.
Mixing in a couple of new songs with hits like “Elephant” and “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards,” the band performed as well as they did when I saw them at The Shrine last year — but without the technical snafus that plagued that memorable set.
You could see fans in the crowd unsure of what to expect with these guys, but by the halfway point, I’d say they were overwhelmingly in favor. And for some, it surely brought them over the age of whatever altered state they may have previously been in.
