Drive Like Jehu played to a sparse crowd at the Gobi tent Saturday at Coachella, but their long time fans got full effort from the San Diego post-punk band.
When I say sparse, I mean about 100 people. The late night spots opposite the headliners is a death sentence, as Pet Shop Boys faced a similar issue last year.
Drive Like Jehu wasn’t fazed by this at all. And many in the crowd didn’t care they were alone (they actually probably preferred it).The band played with the same passion and energy as they had in the 90s. I saw an older couple getting down to “Luau,” and thats another thing Coachella is all about: seeing what you want to see regardless of what the popular choice is. Those that picked Drive Like Jehu got a prime spot without having to spend all day at that one stage.
