mikal cronin fyf fest 2015 photos

Mikal Cronin has a part in numerous bands, including LA favorite Ty Segall’s live band. Now for the second time, Cronin got to showcase his own songwriting skills at FYF Fest.

Two years since Cronin first played with his own band at FYF, he had a solid-sized crowd at the Lawn Stage. His band played a tight set with some rocking guitars and Cronin’s throwback vocal style.

“Just tell me when it hurts,” Cronin repeated over and over in the chorus to the enjoyable “Made My Mind Up.” The track sounded as delightful as it does on Cronin’s record MCIII. Cronin played a handful more of the same kind of hook-driven tunes to the enjoyment of those who had showed up early enough to witness it.

Cronin’s set is the kind of thing that makes you realize how much value you’re getting for your money when your day starts with a set like his and only continues to be of that quality through the rest of the night. Cronin set the vibe for the first day of FYF Fest and it’s a key thing to do when playing an early set at a major festival.
