Taking the stage in a long coat and a white hat sitting slightly sideways on his head and a guitar that was glittering with embellishments, D’Angelo made his entrance at FYF. Backed by an absolutely incredible band and set of singers, it was clear from the first note that this was The Church of Music and D’Angelo was its pastor.
Smooth and funky, the grooves flowed through the crowd getting everyone dancing. I was caught behind the tallest man on earth (no joke he was probably 6’5 at least), but the boy could get down. To my left and right and all around everyone was swaying to the music. The combination of soul, R&B and with hints of reggae and rock make D’Angelo special. His voice is unreal with how buttery yet light it is.
I lost myself in the music and couldn’t make my feet walk away, nor did I want to. And judging by the captivated crowd around me, they were feeling the same effects. Like Sunday mass, fans were ready to worship the silky greatness that is D’Angelo.
