Fans were excited to see hometown duo, Girlpool, who were up first at FYF Fest just minutes after the gates opened Sunday. As guitars were tuned the crowd was eager and screamed ready for Girlpool to start playing. As they did girls suddenly started running and skipping toward the stage smiling and singing along, “tranquilize me with your ideal world.” The raw and stripped down music of Girlpool (they play without a drummer) has captured the angst of late teens and early twenty-somethings with their short, but to the point songs.
Girlpool’s music is partly punk, but mostly a folk-pop sound that is grungy and laced with harmonies. The duo that now living in Philly, were all smiles and seemed stoked to be playing to an adoring Los Angeles crowd, more than happy to have them back, even if for just one day.
