Last night, with all kinds of sweetness in the air, the Hollywood Palladium kicked off night one of two blissful evenings with New Mexico’s brightest stars, Beirut. Along with the charming sounds of Beirut was the hauntingly beautiful opening performance by Julia Holter. Who will also perform as direct support for night two (tonight).
Early in the evening, Holter set the tone for a mellow mood with songs charged with powerful emotion and deep thought adjectives brining her new album, Have You In My Wilderness to life. The audience that already occupied more than half of the venue, welcomed the loveliness coming out of Julia’s ensemble. She and her group were stunning.
After four long years in production hiatus, the indie folk band Beirut, led by the talented Zach Condon finally made their glorious return to Los Angeles. Condon came out armed with horns and new proposals. Starting with classics and slowly moving on to their new material No No No, the sounds went from touches of electronic intros to melodic mature brass.
Beirut’s was back.
As Condon’s distinct lulling vocals tickled our spines with nostalgia, new songs were welcomed with open hearts. The warm energy at the Palladium was unreal. It was as though the crowd was feeding off the energy of Beirut, and Beirut was feeding off the happiness from the crowd.
Without a doubt, Beirut and Julia Holter’s sets were most blissful, and for some, quite the cathartic performances.
