Daughter
Thank god it was Friday. The night was blessed with beautiful music at none other than Los Angeles’ historic United Artists Theatre, perhaps better known as The Theatre at Ace Hotel. Eager listeners flooded into the 1920’s three-story palace, awaiting to hear some of their favorite tunes from London indie-folk outfit Daughter.
Opening the show for Daughter were fellow English natives Wilsen. Comprised of four musicians, and led by trance-inducing vocalist Tamsin Wilson, the band proved their spot on stage throughout their chilling instrumentals and special take on modern folk. I personally was in awe of the performance, and pulled into this very original musical atmosphere. Wilsen proved that music is indeed one of the highest art forms that we have the pleasure of knowing.
The night was truly ready to start up once the well beloved Daughter walked on stage. Known for their gripping presence, Daughter graced this Los Angeles audience’s ears with sixteen of their heavily dramatic and intimate tracks from across their discography, including their latest release, Not to Disappear, which dropped earlier this year via 4AD/Glassnote. I would say as a viewer, I was captivated. Having seen these performers a handful of times prior, I was almost just as eager as the first time to see them. Led by singer Elena Tonra’s hypnotizing vocals, carried further by Igor Haefeli’s guitar stylings, and topped by drummer Remi Aguilella’s skills, this act is indeed the whole package. During their show you will feel as though you’re on a magical journey, because what they create is so incredible and it was beyond a pleasing night for sure.
