Dengue Fever
Cambodian New Year isn’t until next week but Dengue Fever was already celebrating at The Regent Theater in downtown Los Angeles this past Saturday. Founded by brothers Ethan and Zac Holtzman more than a decade ago, the band continues to rock forth with their fifth album, The Deepest Lake, and are currently touring in support of it.
Their blend of indie psychedelic rock and 60’s Cambodian pop just got more global with the incorporation of Latin beats, African percussion and layered Sax solos, passionately executed by David Ralicke, which when witnessed live gives you all kinds of intense chills. Front woman and singer Chhom Nimol was radiant and the crowd went wild for her perfectly executed, and deeply rooted Cambodian high pitch vocals. That paired with the band’s specialty blend of garage rock and the many musical flavors that they have expanded upon throughout the years, only confirms that Dengue Fever maintains a unique style that continues to amaze with every performance.
