Death Valley Girls
Nothing like a satanic worship themed show to kick off the summer rock. This past Thursday night, Los Angeles’ very own Death Valley Girls celebrated their highly anticipated record release show at The Echo. Smashing out tunes from their new album Glow In The Dark, it was a hot and sweaty affair. The house was packed! But before Death Valley Girls possessed the stage, two other great acts slayed the evening.
The night started with Frankie and The Witch Fingers opening with fast, convulsing, string-breaking tunes. I say string-breaking because the lead singer went through two guitars. Now that’s how you kick off a show.
Next up, were Peach Kelli Pop. They played short, surf-candy, pop songs that reminded me of the spirit of Dead Kennedys’ earlier stuff. It was a nice appetizer to the glowing mayhem that would be Death Valley Girls.
Death Valley Girls were brilliant at locking in the audience with their new heavy punk songs. Lead singer Bonnie is a sweetheart. She was so kind to her fans. Sh even invited one to come up to the stage to rock out with them for the final song of their encore. The mosh pit was thriving, the booze was flowing, and the bands probably had the best time of all with the flattering support of the crowd.
