Despite the Horrific Vehicle and Foot Traffic, Protoje and The Indiggnation were Good Vibes All Around

For this year’s editions of the Twilight Concert series, the organizers went HUGE turning the Santa Monica Pier into a summer time festival on Thursdays; bigger than ever before. The increased access with the train plus, the influx of people during summertime made the city an almost impenetrable human mass. I was ready to get irie for hours, but vehicles and people traffic made it a challenge.

Oje Ken Ollivierre also known as Protoje, is a contemporary reggae singer, and songwriter from Jamaica. He took over the night with charm, radiating good vibes. Once the sweet reggae music hit the stage, it was easy to forget the commute and multitude of madness around. Performing songs of his own repertoire and blending other influences, the massive crowd went wild to the sounds of Protoje and his band The Indiggnation. My favorite moment was when his blend of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” transitioned to Dr Dre’s “California Love, elevating the audience at even higher level. If you like reggae, keep an eye on Protoje. He’s the goods.
