Warpaint

Warpaint

Last Thursday night at the Fonda Theatre Hollywood, the psychedelically enchanting ladies of Warpaint came though with a sold-out show supported by Goldensuns and Facial. Kicking off the evening were brother trio originally from Utah, Goldensuns. Jantzen, Chase, and Weston Meier got the venue up and running with their lo-fi indie rock. I really dug their sound, and the crowd seemed to respond positively as well.

Things were just getting rolling when the next act who considered themselves a “very loud” band from LA took the stage. Facial, not to be confused with the soothing and relaxing treatment done to one’s skin, are a three-piece compiled of slim dudes out to rage. They couldn’t stay still! Each member swapped instruments every few songs and shredded harder than the previous. From super fast-paced and grungy songs to slower and more moody tracks, Facial gave everyone at the Fonda a jolting sound facial. Nothing relaxing about them, and we loved it.

From the moment Warpaint hit the stage, you can already feel their energy. The band has this kinetic ability to transport you into a sanctuary of sorts. Compiled of Emily, Theresa, Jenny and Stella — Warpaint slayed with super rich and trance-evoking psych pop. I felt immediately enamored by these women on stage. Their energy was so heavy and powerful, it’s impossible to not get lost in all their sonic spleadour. With their recent release, Heads Up, Warpaint shone with their new songs as well as fan favorites. Oddly enough, even with all these amazing vibes and feels, a fight broke out in the middle of the their set. Who the hell fights at a Warpaint show?! Needless to say, the women shut that nonsense down real quick and put us all back into a blissful Warpaint spell.
