Tyler, the Creator has done it again. For the fifth year in a row, Camp Flog Gnaw has sold out completely. This year he one upped himself by making it a two-day festival for the first time ever. From the Bay Area to New York , people from all around the U.S. traveled to Los Angeles just to experience Camp Flog Gnaw 2016. With the line up consisting of acts like Erykah Badu, Anderson. Paak, SZA, Chance the Rapper, A$AP Rocky and Joey Badass, it’s no wonder why one would go through great lengths just to be here.
The entire Camp Flog Gnaw weekend was a blast with activities such as carnival rides, games and even an arcade provided by A$AP Rocky’s AWGE creative company. For OG Odd Future fans, Tyler ended the weekend with a surprise Earlwolf set, this was the first time in two years that Earl Sweatshirt and Tyler performed together.
Considering the peaceful protest against President-Elect Donald Trump was taking place just a few miles away, many artists took the opportunity to voice their feelings during this tumultuous time. Compton-based rapper YG did a surprise set and performed “FDT” (Fuck Donald Trump), while DJ Mustard shared his disappointment and referred to Trump as a racist. There was sadness in everyone’s heart, and fear in their eyes — but Camp Flog Gnaw — a music festival that attracts fans mostly of color and mixed backgrounds, provided a much-needed catharsis. Even for just a weekend, people were allowed to be distracted from the darkness that surrounds our nation, our world.
Keep on Fighting the Good Fight.
