The Two Tens and The Katellas define rock 'n' roll at Satellite gig

With the amount of amazing music Los Angeles has to offer on any random night, from Royal Blood at the Wiltern, The Two Tens’ album release show with The Katellas/Go Betty Go at The Satellite, and the looming Echo Park Rising, we’re remind just how many fantastic bands are all around us.

Wednesday night, for me, the choice was obvious because another thing LA has to offer is a music scene that feels like family and that supports each other and well… I knew it was going to be an awesome show and had been looking forward to the pairing of The Two Tens with their musical little brothers The Katellas for sometime. I was asked to shoot The Two Tens by The Knitting Factory management years ago for their first show and as a result my musical family has grown tremendously over the years; from The Sonics to Richie Ramone, they have a lot of great supporters.

The Two Tens are as their name implies a two piece. Adam Bones on guitar and lead vocals and Rikki Styxx on drums. They lean punk rock-always fun, never taking things too seriously, a great relief from the struggles of today’s world although and few poppy love songs have snuck in this go round. They played their new release “On Repeat” in full on Wednesday night and on repeat is exactly what this album should be. I do believe limited edition (100 pressing) splatter vinyl is still available and if you pick it or the red version up you may notice a certain Grimy Goods photog’s work is included (full disclosure she is also writing this review).

Opening for The Two Tens was a fresh little band out of OC that should be on everyone’s radar. The Katella’s are everything you would want in a rock show; well written songs, great guitar skills, lots of hair and a high flying energy that seems immune to gravity (oh to be young). I am hoping we get to see a lot more of them up this way because everyone should be checking out their live shows which never disappoint.

Closing the show were veterans Go Betty Go who made me nostalgic for The GoGo’s.

Another fun add to the night, was Jimmy Ovieda who was live painting at the event.

The evening was a great way to kick off what was a solid weekend of music as Echo Park Rising; demonstrating just how much music and talent this town is packed with.
