This past Friday, London Indie-pop trio the xx drew a sold out show at The Forum in Inglewood for the final stretch of US tour dates of the I See You tour. The xx consist of vocalist-guitarist Romy Madley Croft, vocalist-bassist Oliver Sim and producer Jamie xx. After a melodic and soulful set from Seattle based artist Perfume Genius, the xx kicked off their 18-song set with percussive gem “Intro” from their self-titled debut album and performed throwbacks “Crystalized” and “Islands.”

It was surreal witnessing these three incredible artists in person, but what was equally stunning was the stage design by creative director Willo Perron. The trio performed between towers of rotating mirrors and on a two way mirrored floor capturing the transparency of the artist. They were facing the audience and were exposed by new angles at the same time. Romy and Oliver have never been powerhouse vocalists, but they make up for it with authenticity and a sound so honest as they blend their voices and words telling stories of heartbreak.

For the majority of the set, the London-based group showcased tracks from their third and latest album I See You. They concluded their set with an upbeat dance version of “Shelter” and illuminated the arena with rainbow colored lighting and a stunning display of lasers during Jamie xx‘s track “Loud Places.” By no surprise, the beloved trio found their way back on stage to treat the audience with encores “On Hold” and “Angels.”
