For its 18th year, Eagle Rock Music Festival brought free music to Los Angeles. Produced by the Center for the Arts Eagle Rock in partnership with Council Member Jose Huizar their motto “By Locals for Locals” was loud and clear bring emerging bands filled with freshness and diversity along with seasoned musicians that we never get tired of hearing.

The afternoon started with a scorching 90 degrees that turned into a soothing evening of beat makers, Afrobeat, lLtin, tribal, nu jazz, country, tropical bass and a myriad of rhythms to get you into the melánge of sounds that represent Los Angeles.  The band Earth Arrow caught the audience attention with their exotic looks and messages for justice very much needed in these times. Te’amir, who has performed with numerous giants in the industry, brought his latest project “Tiger Beats”, a worth recommended listen for the beat scene lover.

In a different corner of Eagle Rock, the tropical bass crew Subsuelo dropped bangers that made the crowd move their hips to worldly sounds. People danced tumbao to Changüí Majadero, oldies with The Delirians, Afrobeat to Mexico68 with special appearance by Duane Richmond from the cast of Fela the musical, and tropicalia a la Boyle Heights with El Haru Kuroi.

Producers Mark De Clive-Lowe and Dexter Story joined forces to bring a remarkable blend of beats and Ethiopian jazz followed by The Seshen and LA darlings Las Cafeteras with politically charged songs with their unique sounds bringing the crowd even closer.

The efforts and diversity of the festival go way beyond with an even greater repertoire. Between musicians, organizers, community partners and businesses It was an amazing display of the great talent built in Los Angeles and a celebration of heritage.
