Eager music-lovers gathered in Highland Park this past Saturday night to catch a very special show. LA’s newest venue, the Lodge Room has picked up tons of exciting shows rather quickly and Saturday’s was one of the most anticipated. LA’s own Phoebe Bridgers booked the gorgeously renovated historic building for her album release show. Stranger in the Alps is the 23-year-old’s debut record and hasn’t stopped blowing up with positive reviews since its September release. With high praise from such names like NPR and LA’s own Times, people have listened up and definitely like what they’re hearing. I first discovered Bridgers at the Bootleg Theater back in January of 2016 when she played Girlschool. I was blown away upon hearing her voice for the first time, and had a strong feeling that she’d make quite the imprint on all types of music-lovers. Bridgers also made her rounds opening up for some big acts on tour such as Conor Oberst, Julien Baker, and City and Colour while working with incredible artists such as Ryan Adams

Bridgers has this beautiful way of painting a picture with her casually striking lyrics that grab the listener by storm. Her music builds upon such a wave of emotions that resonate with the inner workings of my mind for sure. I know I’ve turned a few of my closest friends on to her music and the craze continues. Her set wowed the sold-out room and pleasantly surprised many when she invited her very talented close friend, Conor Oberst to the stage to sing their duet “Would You Rather?” off Stranger in the Alps.

Phoebe Bridgers is one of those musicians who I eagerly wait to hear what they will create next. The tracks she had previously recorded and released prior to the full album have stuck right by my side during some hard times and that’s what it’s all about. Her music fills a space you may have not even known needed filling. Her set was simply perfect and ended with giant clear balloons being tossed around the room and popping, which released shimmery streamers.

Another show down for the books and easily one of the best to end 2017.
