Resident DTLA hosted the perfect Sunday trifecta of sonic journeys. The bands Yanga, Here Lies Man and Combo Chimbita with Dublab DJs in between sets, made a great reflection of the diverse music influencing Los Angeles.

Yanga and their Afro-Colombian rhythms blended with Los Angeles and Inland Empire punk funk spice had the crowd dancing during their entire set. Here Lies Man was particularly unique. With members of Afrobeat band Antibalas, Here Lies Man are not afraid to get experimental. With dashes of heavy rock and funk mixed with founder Marcos Garcia distinctive vocals and highly skilled musicians, they masterfully navigated through these wave of sounds. Heads were inevitably bobbing.

Combo Chimbita‘s first visit to Los Angeles was a real treat. These first generation New Yorkers and their tropical futurism were love at first sight.  Their set was paired with visuals and sporadic improvisations of organic earthy sounds. The strength of frontwoman Carolina Oliveros seemed like a magnet between the synths and percussion traveling to Caribbean landscapes where hips shake and a dancing trance ensues.

All bands highly recommended for your bands to watch in 2018.
