An original LA anomaly.

Vince Staples MADE IT and now he is back to share the live experience of his latest album Big Fish Theory. The last time I personally had the pleasure of bouncing around to songs from the Ramona Park Legend himself – it was Air + Style 2017. He was showcasing his collabs w/ Flume (Smoke & Retribution) which he performed twice on the same night. This sort of bothered me because I really thought he was going to go for My Boo (a personal favorite) but nope he didn’t, it’s cool I’m over it*.

A year before that (2016 duh) it was a packed Hollywood Palladium and I was trying to figure out how to memorize his EP Prima Donna as fast as I could before he hit the opening stage. Then I dipped before the headliner came out which I think was James Blake.

It’s 2018 and now he has broadened his horizon with a spot on the Black Panther Soundtrack (definitely is friends with KDot!), has a new album off Def Jam Records, and a solid Sprite deal. He speaks publicly about how he doesnt like it when he is interviewed about past interviews, has an active Twitter feed going right now, and shakes the house DOWN when he takes the stage. This show was personal and heartfelt. Vince Staples doesn’t leave anything behind. Ever.

Vince Staples, I’ll see ya in 2019.

*I’m not over it.

Photos of Vince Staples by the only female photographer in the rig who was too short to see over the stage.
