If it’s any indication that songstress Beth Ditto can carve out a promising solo career, look no further than Friday night’s show at the Fonda Theatre, in which her voice captivated the audience and her on-stage presence inspiringly confident as she toured in support of her debut LP Fake Sugar. Her Southern soul permeated the set between songs as she ribbed her bandmates and noted “Mr. Fonda”’s strict policies, but it was all in good-natured fun as she just as readily and sumptuously belted out tracks like “Fire,” “Oo La La,” and “In And Out.” She brought a warm and welcoming vibe throughout, ending the set by having audience members and backstage friends join on stage to sing “Standing.” I don’t think I’d ever seen the Fonda so lively.

Synth-heavy opener and artist Ssion was just as exuberant, owning the stage with constant movement and flair as he supported his recent return to music.
