While everyone was making their annual trip to the desert the past week, the desert was making its way to Los Angeles. The Algerian Tuareg desert rock band Imarhan delivered a warm show at the Echo, immediately throwing the audience in a sonic trance.
Imarhan’s music follows a line of tradition blended with the new wave of Tuareg music, born from the conflicted regions of the Sahara desert. Their messages are of union and community, and they sing together as such. Imarhan’s live performance was vibrant, their presence exotic, and the psychedelic riffs with pan-African sounds were a trip to another continent. Although the tones are subtle, this band’s music had those in attendance sweating and dancing elated. These friends have been playing together for about 10 years and are currently on tour. Highly recommend you experience their music.
