This past Tuesday night shined with a magical show down at the Theatre at Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. Philadelphia’s indie/psych-rock experimentalists, Dr. Dog made a stop along their current 42-date tour to be with us. The stage lights shined directly onto Dr. Dog’s drum head displaying the main imagery from their newest album. Dr. Dog are currently touring in support of their 10th studio album! Critical Equation is out now via Thirty Tigers and proved last night to be just as high energy live as the rest of their albums!

The audience were crazed as vocalist and lead guitarist, Scott McMicken began the opening track of the record, “Listening In.” The smooth bass/guitar-driven song came to life and we all wanted more! Critical Equation is the band’s first fresh material in five years! Having taken a break to be with their families and determine the new direction to take with their music, the boys of Dr. Dog are now back and better than ever.

Aside from the opening track, we got to hear others off the new record such as “Go Out Fighting” and the banger amongst bangers, “Heart Killer.” With now 10 records under their belts, you could imagine a setlist being pretty tedious to come up with for a tour. Whether it was difficult or not, I think I can speak for other fans and say we were very pleased with the ones they chose to perform. The nearly sold out theatre sang and danced along with one of their favorite creative bands in the industry. It was a beautiful night of music.
