SLUGS

This past Monday kicked off SLUGS’ August residency at The Echo. Joining them, was surprise opener and mega SLUGS fan, Lauren Ruth Ward. Ward played a stunningly beautiful solo acoustic set which she confessed more than once had her nerves jumbled. She brought friend and guitarist Steven John Taylor up for a few numbers and also covered her sweetheart, LP’s song “Switchblade.”

Yet another great Australian band graced an LA stage — seems to be happening a lot lately — rockers Gumboot, a garage band with a generous slathering of piano were quite fun. SLUGS took the 11PM slot with a packed house who had been being transported to and from the back patio (where super limited edition merch is to be found) through a time warp portal the band constructed. If you needed a reason beyond seeing a spectacular female-dominant band plus the best free AC in LA, come out Monday (Aug 13) as the band will have an EP which they claim will not be available on this internet thing.

Finishing out the night was Family Cash who’s guitarist had a striking resemblance to SLUGS guitarist Josh, hmmmm. Join him, Marrissa, Sarsten (who also lent her amazing harmonies to Lauren Ruth Ward’s set) and James next week and enjoy some great music in the chill of The Echo.
