A wildly eager crowd welcomed the weekend over at the Teragram Ballroom in downtown LA with our favorite wacky Canadian, Mac DeMarco!
Thursday evening’s festivities held night two of three at the Teragram Ballroom – each bringing along different opening acts to get things going. We got to hear the musical stylings from two groups of Mac’s friends. The crowd danced along to the lush and and insanely catchy hybrid sounds of duo, Confusing Mix Of Nations aka CMON.
Then girls began singing and phones quickly went up while the up and coming hype act of Shane Blanchard aka Bane’s World dazzled. Girls seemingly swooned as Long Beach’s own 21-year-old Blanchard hit some heavy riffs on his beautiful Gretsch guitar and sang with his definite swoon-worthy and delicate voice.

Now that the room was nice and warm, the lights went down and an unexpected friend, John C. Reilly walked front and center to introduce the band to the stage! It was pretty wild – and of course hilarious! Once Mac and his bandmates kindly said hello, DeMarco then advised everyone to be nice to their friends and neighbors and have a good time, they went straight into a set to remember, beginning with the ever-favorite “Salad Days.” Sure the guys performed all the favorite numbers such as “Cooking Up Something Good” and the crowd-mover, “Freaking Out the Neighborhood,” needless to say, no Mac Demarco show is EVER the same.

The night of course involved quirky bits of hilarity and silliness, while also proving to be one of the staple live musicians of today’s generation. Fans laughed and sang along with Mac’s dreamy voice, even when he adlibbed some funky voices and accents into his songs. Craziness aside, we got to partake in a beautiful sing-along to the very pretty “My Kind Of Woman.” However, things didn’t slow down for long. The crowd stayed close the entire night, while expecting the famous intermittent crowd surfing by DeMarco himself. At the end of the show he even had the crowd carry him all the way to the back of the house, while his band covered Misfits’ “Hollywood Babylon,” only to be lifted up and climb onto the Teragram balcony! He sat so casually on the railing, just grinning upon the sold-out crowd glued to him with wide, smiling faces, awaiting his next move, which of course was to fall back down onto them! Once back to the stage, DeMarco ended with the crowd pleaser, “Still Together,” while dancing around on stage with his shirt off.
